Not so Friendly Survivors
Sorry if I come off as whiney, but I just had a really bad game as legion.
So in the pre-game lobby I saw someone on Xbox(same as me) with a name calling themselves a Claudette Main. I won't give the actual name. But I decided to message them and joke around, saying it's tunnel time for not playing Claudette. They reply saying I'd have a hard time and drop that they have 2k hours. I wish them good luck, and they say I'll need the luck.
Long story short, had a three hook game where the person I messaged pestered me the whole game. They insult me afterwards, invite me to a party. It was shortlived, I admitted I played some loops really bad but they just say I play like ######### and kick me.
Soooo, super demoralizing. Just trying to have fun, but this stuff makes me not want to play anymore

Well they took it the wrong way.
Messaging anyone is double edged sword even when you compliment them. I was attacked and insulted a lot of times for sending a friendly message to someone so I do it rarely now.

Trying to communicate with concave head people has never gotten anyone anywhere relevant, ever. Don't worry, eventually you will meet a survivor with an IQ above their thermostat, there are plenty of fish in the sea, son.

Moral of the story: Don't message anyone unless they message you, and even then only reply if they're being decent. I've had so many hate messages on PS4 over stupid reasons, the worst being someone spamming a single letter over and over so the notification kept appearing on my screen as if it would distract me. The only time I'll reply to anyone is if they're being genuinely nice, saying GG or complimenting me on my playstyle. But they're very rare, and most people just find it easier to insult you, throw a slur they learned on the internet, then wish death on you. Best to just ignore idiots like this.

This is the most toxic playerbase I've ever seen and I've been playing games since the 80s. I get messages on Playstation constantly, to the point where I have notifications turned off, and sometimes I turn off messages entirely from people I don't know. I'd just avoid it at all costs, to be honest. People are nasty.

Well you did joke that you tunnel her so that might be why she was upset. Just don't message them before game is over. I've messaged few players after game and none of them haven't send me hate messages.
Tbh, if someone sends me "it's tunnel time" I would make everything to make game as hard as possible to that killer and maybe send few t-bags at the end just to make the game worse to him.
I can't blame that Claudette main, surely she went too far after game but that is other story.

From how they played, I fully believe they intended to play the same way regardless of the messaging

I turned off messages and never messaged anyone myself. It's hard for people to interpret tone via text, and you never know if someone will actually get the joke or not.
Also, this game has a habit of bringing out the worst in some people. That's part of why I turned off messages. I see more than enough of it in game, I don't need flavor text to go with it.

Could be but without message they would not invite you to party to insult you. Some players just are total douchebags. Ignoring them is best way to dealt with them.

I don't think the game is an excuse tho. It is just that people treat others like trash regardless.
Sure they get frustrated through the game but we all do sometimes and not all of us go out of our way to say horrible things to others.

I was hoping they'd be cool about it, but the one speaking couldn't stop themselves from having a giggle fit because I was so bad apparently. They couldn't even be civil about it.

I never meant it to be an excuse, just that I practically expect it from people who play DbD at this point. The frustration this game causes brings out a lot of negativity. I know it's not everyone who does it, I for one don't go around saying horrible things to others, and I did get some nice messages from people back when I had messages turned on. I also got the toxic after-game crap and I'd be super nice and polite in return, and some people actually apologized.

Just get a pocket Meg. They'll make you feel better and take all the blame for things. Sure they might blow up your generator occasionally but you know you have to take the good with the bad.
