Why can’t teammates find Hex totems
Like holy crap I understand dull totems at least they’ve become harder to see and stuff. But, Hex totems are so loud and they stick out so much on majority of maps. You just need to walk by and hear something. This was just from a gameplay with two Claudettes running full meta and walking by the devour hope twice while active. And I just got moried because of that. They were red ranks

Eh I don't judge people who can't find totems I basically don't known the spawns on any map besides like haddonfield and the original realms and maybe like lerys

It was Devour Hope active can’t exactly play it safe
1 -
Because why cleanse totem when I can do gen & help secure our escape.
2 -
I've seen many say they won't cleanse a lit totem incase it's Haunted Grounds. There's also alot that are allergic to touching any totems and just want to focus on gens.

I can usually find totems but most of the time I hear them before physically see them. Sometimes I hear them on the other side of walls and through floors but not everyone is super attentive to their surroundings or know totem spots.

Devour active at 5 stacks

Cleansing devour won't repair a gen. IDC if the killer is mauling a survivor right next to me, somebody's gotta do gens and it ain't gonna be the one getting mori'd
1 -
Cleansing the totem will help prevent you from being killed and make sure more survivors are available to do gens.

True, but the amount of time it takes to find & cleanse the totem isn't guaranteed. I can guarantee the gen taking a total of 80s to complete.

- They are hidden
- There are lots of other noises that make them hard to hear
- There is a guy with a machete chasing after me

Had a game with ruin, Meg completed a gen by her self. Then I realize that ruin was literally behind the gen Meg finished. Like you couldn’t look behind you for a second and ofc she just ran to another gen leaving the hex behind.
I just happen to found it by actually going out my way to find it.point of story is that solo teammates are lazy selfish players that have no awareness

I always cleanse totems. I'm so sick of DH and NOED that if I see one, I get rid of it lol.
I hate it though when team mates don't bother to look for DH or NOED. Locating the totem is my #1 priority when those pop.

I mean tbf some of the newer maps makes quite hard to find totems, mainly indoor ones
But yeah when i see Devour i basically say screw everything and look for it.

I am confused, if you saw 2 Claudette running by it, why didn't you cleanse it? Were you already dead and just spectating or something?
1 -
I saw it and tried but was spotted and being chased. The Claudettes were by it and didn’t prioritize it. As I was moried by a Ghostface

They wanted to be part of the selfie

Hex totems do more noise? I didn't even know that was a thing.
3/4 of the time, if success of the game hinges on someone cleansing a troublesome hex perk, I'll roam all over the map looking for it and find every totem except the one that matters. I had a game with Small Game on and I cleansed 4 dull totems by myself. But I never found the one solitary hex totem that had Ruin in it and we lost the game.

I played a game last week as killer and even I had trouble spotting the thing lol… not even kidding. Either because it was slightly elevated or managed to be overpowered by gen auras.
The best tip I can give for finding lit totems without the help of perks or items is headphones. Sometimes you’ll see it glowing in the distance but I’ve stubbled across tons of hexes I never would have found unless I heard them burning. Just don’t get fooled by something silly like fire barrels.
There’s also always a chance a killer can get extremely lucky with a spawn that has lots of sight blockers out in the boonies or it’s just outside of your hearing range by a gen that gets completed.

Why do the survivors I face always find and cleanse both ruin and undying in the first minute?
1 -
Must have been me I actually know the spawns quite well. Although maps occasionally toss the odd spawn.
0 -
Agreed. Except the first point, because they are usually not hidden.
0 -
As a rule of thumb, they are nearly never hidden when you play them, and often hidden way to well when you play against them.
2 -
The first thing I do as survivor is tap the gen to see if ruin is active. If it is, I won't bother repairing the gen until I cleanse it.

A hex totem has never made a noise for me, and since... I think the Trickster chapter, most of them don't glow anymore for me, either, making the visual difference between a dull and a hex incredibly small.

”If it glows, it goes.” Don’t be scared of Haunted Grounds ppl- better to get rid of it early than to find out later there is NOED to deal with- especially if there are only two totems left. That was the original undying.
‘But to OP’s point, yea it sucks when teammates miss a Hex Totem close by. Happened to me yesterday. I had two on one gen and the totem was not only in ear shot, it could be seen from the gen with the correct camera angle. I’m guessing the noise of the gen drowned it out and they kept their cameras in one position. I don’t get upset though- twice recently I was actively looking for Hex Totems and missed them. After a teammate cleansed and I look back, I ask myself how the hell did I miss it? I just came from there and searched the area well (or so I thought).
Btw, is it me or does Undying cause the Hex totem it’s protecting to have a lower flame and be quieter?

People are blind, iv found someone on a gen right next to a hex so I just get the hex. Iv pointed at hexs a few Metres away and they still miss it they just want to heal me, I just run straight at it now and t-bag at it like crazy and they usually get it, some still wonder off lol

Me: Screaming out "NAURRRRR!" While getting moried right next to you. You: "Y'all hear sumn?"
1 -
That’s just it. They’re probably only looking, and not also listening for them.

If you don't play the game enough you won't learn the totem spots/sounds they make. The survivors may have full meta builds, but doesn't mean they've played more than 300 hours.
The amount of times the killer has had a hex totem on Ironworks and no one has cleansed it is hilarious. Especially when 9/10 the hex totem spawns upstairs in the building. This is something only experienced players know, that newer players don't.

If my team wants a totem to get cleansed they can run a build & find it themselves.
