Gen Speeds
I was thinking last night after a game i had. All survivors went to different gens really early in the match by the time i found surv and downed them three gens popped. So i was forced to tunnel someone out of the game which i dont particularly like to do. So i was thinking to help killers in the early game i know people have said to make ruin base kit but i feel like that would be too much and drag games way out. What about making a speed reduction x gens being repaired at the same time which would get less overtime as you get them done. This way at game start the killer has more of a shot at stopping multiple gens instead of three popping in the first min or so.

something does need to be done at some point but increasing the amount of time survivors have to just hold a button wouldn’t do much besides make doing gens even more boring

I said it before and people looked at me like I was high. Just rework the skill check system, it's so pointlessly easy, and great skull checks are just children's play
1 -
I’d just rather they make the effects of shroud of union basekit and force all survivors to spawn together. And also don’t make survivors spawn with gens in spitting distance

Also a great suggestion

I hate to do the stereotypical thing of just regurgitating what Scott Jund says. But he is entirely right that the games where you lose 3 gens in 1 chase are because of survivor spawns.

Ugh... Scott... I really don't like him, but I will admit one thing. He gets some decent ideas once in awhile, but ugh... Scott..

I also think they need to increase the penalty percentage for having more then one survivors on gens as well to nerf prove thyself so it wouldn't be as effective as it is.
The other fix could be decreasing the map size so the killer can patrol gen without wasting more time to get their depending on the map.

I got nothin against the guy. It’s a issue of all dbd content creators that their fans will blindly follow their ideas of balance in the game.
1 -
Make us gather gas cans for the gens
Just blatantly increasing gen times is the most boring thing they could possibly do
2 -
Increasing the penalty just in case someone may be running prove thyself. No offense I think it’s a bad idea. I think it’s a bad idea to balance anything in this game around a player maybe using a specific perk. As if nobody has that perk now they’re at a much larger disadvantage

I would try the spawn point fix first. Can't tell you how many times disco pops soon as I take one step at beginning. Also ran LP once last night and soon as the aura appeared there was a survivor already repairing a gen. That's just bogus and they should have to work (travel to) for their objective. Not be spawned right on top of it.

That's fair

My wording is a bit off.
I meant by increasing the penalty for multiple people on gens and also nerfing prove thyself to be a bit fair.
I would be fine with having one of them (the first one since that would also considering a nerf to prove thyself) if the changes are too much.

Decreasing maps sizes will also make it so that tiles spawn even closer to each other, it wouldnt help much then
Rather give the killer à fun way to move around the map like portals on the walls to travel quickly like demo and reach further gens faster, whoch will also make it so that you get out of the simple "do the middle gen first" mind out as it would be the safest gen from the portals

As the game feels like its balanced arpund the killer having pop/ruin :')
But youre absolutly roght on this

Like I said in my other comment increasing the amount of time survivors have to hold a button is extremely boring and unhealthy for the game. I’m not against changes to prove thyself but leave the default gen speed alone for now.

the game being balanced around the killer slowing survivors down as much as possible is a perfect example of this games poor design
1 -
Popping 3 gens means nothing if they did gens at random, if survivors 3 gen themselves the game becomes killer sided and can even end uo in the killer geting a 4k even if 3 generators popped early.

The problem isn't gen speeds, the problem is the Maps and killers that can't do ######### against it.

Toolboxes used to be way way stronger then now tbh, and indont feel like they are part of the problem, i feel they are fine
Yet à good team with POve thyself and à bit of coordination can slam gens fast
But having 3 survivors doing separate gens is even faster in the end
The thing is more that killers dont have many options to stop gens from being worked on and need to stavk gen slowdown perks instead

Change the gen system so Survivor shave to look for parts to put in the gen. THEN they hit a skillcheck to determine how much progress is made. This accomplishes multiple things:
- No more 'mindlessly holding M1' that Survivors find boring.
- They have to keep on their toes, as they have to go parts-hunting which leads to
- They are moving around, which makes it more likely they will be seen, which increases chases, which Survivors claim are fun.
Rummaging in Parts Piles is like rummaging in a Chest. Parts can be Big or Small:
- Big Parts reward more progress than Small Parts
- Carrying Big Parts slows Survivors down (Or does not allow exhaustion Perks; using one will make the Survivor drop the Big Part while the perk activates as normal)
There; fixed. More interactive, less 'mindless', and more chases.

Except if you balance the game with the expectation that the killer isn't using gen regression perks, then Pop and Ruin become OP. They'd still be used even if they aren't needed, because everyone likes to win.
DBD is complex to balance. Map adjustments and spawn changes are probably the better route.

Instead of gen speeds I feel the real problem is not all killers have mobility or ways of applying pressure. If you can down people quicker or you can get somewhere fast to push them off a gen, then your going to have a better chance than a typical M1 killer. This is why certain killers are meta.
This game puts extreme importance on how fast you can make that first down and chase someone else. Think about it. When a match starts say
4 people are each on a gen.
You find someone to chase. 3 people on gens
You hook someone. 2 people on gens one going for the save.
Before the save is made you chase someone else. 1 person on a gen, 1 on a hook, 1 being chased and 1 going for the save.
When you hook someone and chase another survivor you go from 3 people on gens to 1. The sooner you can do that before they pop 3 gens the better. Often by the time you find and down 1 person 3 gens are completed. I feel this is the main problem with the game. I would really like the see this early game warm up idea the devs pitched years ago but haven't heard anything since.

Oh I agree at this point it’s necessary. It’s just a shame it came to this.

I have to agree to this. Increasing gen times will screw solo survivors over and make survivor even more boring.
Gen speed isn't the problem. The problem is that survivors don't have enough objective prior to gens.
I suggest that maybe at every 25% progressions on gens, the gen overheats and becomes too hot to interact with and survivors have to go to the shack to get a bottle of oil to pour in the gen to cool it off and progress to the next 25%.
2 -
I genuinely like these ideas people have had of finding items to repair the gens and making them more interactive. But at the end of the day this is dead by daylight and more specifically BHVR we’re talking about. While it’s nice to think we could have that in the future. I like to think something that could realistically be done short term. Such as like I mentioned spawn changes.

If you're going to make gen slow down basekit all gen regression perks would have to be removed. Otherwise what you're suggesting is totally unfair.
0 -
I honestly just wan't the game to be balanced less around Slowdown perks. Its very clear thats the intention BHVR has, as they continuously release slowdown perks for killers with hardly any variety. Their method of patching the gen speed (or more accurately survivor spawn spread) issue is just by giving killers more and more boring methods of slowing the game down to a reasonable level.

Sadly, the entire discussion is moot as long as camping is a thing, since any slowdown will just make camping a stable way to win.
