DC Penalties is really needed, as without it...
You'll get survivors like these... I'm seeing people here that are suggesting that DC Penalties should be removed permanently as "Why should I stay on an unfun match I don't want to be in."
To those people, I say maybe the match is unfun because it's your damn fault?
Please look at example video above of 3 people DCing. I left Leon pretty generously (Zarina was working on a gen right next to the shack) to pursue my first Tinkerer pop but Zarina and Claudette instead of saving him committed to their Gens. If someone was just tad bit more altruistic, the game would have resulted very much differently.
TL;DR: It isn't always the Killers fault the game is unfun and you want to DC. It can also be Survivors fault for being too greedy on holding M1.
On a side note: if I was not a Blight here, 3 Gens would have pop 1 minute and 30 secs to the trial. I guess Generator Speed are fine then?

While there should be some penalty for DCing a time out isn’t a good option. If I get a slugging nurse with If at 5 gens and dc that penalty will make no difference to me. If someone doesn’t want to play they won’t they’ll just throw the match and suicide instead

This has been the only pvp type of game I’ve ever played where some players genuinely think it’s the responsibility of their opponents to make the game fun. It honestly baffles me.

I thought the DC penalty was back on?
0 -
Nope, It got back on then turned off quickly. It's off currently.
10 -
I've got no idea as to why they would enable it on for a short period of time then disable it. Weird

It's the devs' responsibility to make the game fun, not the players'. No counterargument from me on that point.
On the other hand, I find what you said about other pvp games to be:
- Counterfactual. There's plenty of complaining in any game about players employing strategies or features that are viewed as broken, unbalanced, or cheesy.
- Inapplicable to asymmetrical games as dbd. In classic, symmetrical pvp environments, players have equal options. That doesn't happen here.
As for the penalties, they just mask the underlying design flaws. Once upon a time, DCs were even a metrics used to evaluate changes. Legion's rework was considered successful because DCs went down by 40%.
Penalties simply sweep the problem under the rug. Players suicide or go afk. Killers can do the latter as well. But nome of those show up in the stats.

Yeah looking back I may have been exaggerating when I say only game where people are like this. But I will say that the people here are probably the most bold about admitting they do it. Especially since it’s confirmed to be against the rules. And while you’re right that a DC penalty doesn’t fix the issue it could at the very least discourage people from automatically leaving at every minor inconvenience

Everyone wants them back. The issue is that console is currently too unstable for them to be re-enabled until the mid-chapter drops Tuesday.

The DC situation is a lot better today compared to how it was a few years back when we did have DC penalties. Today I will normally get 1 DC in around 3 days of play. 2 if I'm lucky. And the killer will DC if I'm really lucky. A couple of years back you'd get a DC practically every match.
I'd say they are largely unnecessary, and I'm saying this as someone who has never DC'd in this game for any reason.
If you had to ask me what made the difference is a change in game balance to make the game less frustrating for both sides.

I’ve been getting several dcs a day since the penalty was disabled. Sometimes multiple matches in a row.

I dont know. I havent seen any other game where the community whines so much. Even when I play other games and people start complaining. As a joke I say "Almost as bad as the DBD community" and there's always a few people that stop arguing and say "DBD is pretty bad". When other games admit your community is bad, it's bad.

meta blight build. all i need to see + a nice cone hitbox hit through a pallet/window they don't deserve and i'd be good too
1 -
Translation from Survivor Main to English: 'You're playing something I don't approve of, therefore it is an excuse for me to DC while blaming you'.
7 -
Super creative build btw, never seen someone use such a wildcard perk combo
2 -
The Survivor maybe didn't deserve it on your perspective but maybe I deserve getting the hit? Blight Rush to the Shack Door and Lethal Rush to the Shack Window is not your common trick to a blight. As I am an experienced Blight and I fail that 50% of the time.

Yeah uh... hard agree.
3 -
they probably caved to some kind of pressure(either internally or externally) to get the DC timer back on(as it should be) but realized it was a mistake because the game is still frigged.

Also just to point out, If I was not a Blight here, 3 Gens would have popped in 1 minute and 30 seconds to the trial. Maybe there's a reason why Ruin and Tinkerer is so good at High Mobility Killers.

Dcs have made playing survivor unbearable lately. So many games lost because 1 or 2 people dc immediately after finding out the killer/getting downed.
Dc penalties NEED to come back asap. Had a game where a nea ran into my gen to go down immediately. Then she dcs and the killer goes straight for me.
Or another one on the game map where a jane was getting carried to the basement by a wraith. So I get to a pallet prepared to save her but as soon as he turns to the corner she dcs. Wraith then chases me for free pressure.
Its getting to the point where I don't like trying to save my teammates. They dc so often as Im heading to them that ot just wastes time I could've spent on gens.

It's annoying, but at least the killer tends to have mercy on me for being the only one not to bail lol
If anything, all of this proves how little the game incentivizes survivors' one core strength: teamwork. It's the hardest objective to pull off despite being so important. Tbh people DCing like that is just as bad as killer holding the match hostage.

What do you want them to run, Monstrous shrine?
0 -
Penalty won't do much. DCers will either wait out the matchmaking ban or just suicide on hook as usual.

If the penalty was pointless, DCers wouldn't keep coming to the forum to say that it's pointless. The fact that they're annoyed by it (and that DC rates increase when the penalty is off) is proof that it helps to solve the issue.

Yes, there are 5 perks in this game to choose from; Ruin, BBQ, Tinkerer, Pop, Monsterous Shrine

I do agree the penalty needs to come back
