Bot matches
The developer update stated specifically:
"Now, a tutorial is great and all, but it doesn’t quite compare to hands on experience. Before you jump into an online match, you can now practice in offline bot matches."
Has anyone messed around with this yet? The bot match with Trapper and Dwight is what is in the live version, so what's in the offline version? I won't get a chance to check out the mid chapter update for myself until later today.

I didn't see any mention of it in the patch notes...

It wasn't in the patch notes. My update is installing now, so I'll find out soon if it's a thing or not.
0 -
Unless something changed from the ptb it is the same Trapper bot match as on live right now.
3 -
@MandyTalk any news on this?
2 -
Just played it, unless i missed something, it is still the trapper only tutorial, so maybe they delayed it?
But on a more positive note the first tutorial for killer and survivor is even better now, in both design and information.
3 -
I hope it isn't just one of those things they mention during anniversary events and then just never actually happen.
11 -
I mean it took them 5 years to even put the bot match in....I don't expect anything else for a very long time.
2 -
I don't know, when I read the developer update it didn't sound like they were doing any additions to what was already in the game.
Here is the quote "Now, a tutorial is great and all, but it doesn’t quite compare to hands on experience. Before you jump into an online match, you can now practice in offline bot matches. This will let you try out everything you’ve learned in a real-world scenario without the stress of other people watching. Bot matches are already available on the live version of the game (click the Getting Started button on the main menu to check them out). "
They may have mentioned updates to the bot matches in the anniversary event, but I'm old so my memory isn't all that great.
2 -
Yeah they mentioned that they were expanding the tutorial, but the bot matches were separate from that. If they didn't put in bot matches, then this was highly misleading!
5 -
That makes no sense if they weren't expanding them. Why would they announce something already in-game? And when people want to practice a killer against bots they don't mean just trapper.
11 -
@MandyTalk can you shed any light on this? The way they spoke about this in the developer update didn't make it appear is if this was nothing more than the new tutorials.
1 -
After playing the update. Not only have bot matches not been updated in any way shape or form, but they did not fix the glitch that causes all cosmetics and perks to be unequipped from trapper when entering the match
2 -
Then what in the world is @Peanits talking about then? This couldn't be anymore confusing. The bot match with Dwight and Trapper was already there with the chapter 20 update, so what in the world was the developer update talking about?
6 -
Exactly. Why would they mention that "Bot matches are already available in the live version of the game", and not be talking about actual offline bot matches to practice any killer on? It has to be what they meant and yeah, for it not to be on this update is kinda misleading on their part.

Cool so they lied....As usual.
12 -
Precisely. The bot matches with Trapper and Dwight is what is in the live version, so what exactly is supposed to be in the offline version?
1 -
It was in the anniversary stream.

Sure enough, I finally loaded up the game and discovered for myself that there are no offline bot matches, and what a shock that those we've reached out to aren't saying a word. They either don't care, or they've been told not to say anything.
The developer update literally stated in regards to offline bot matches, and I quote:
"This will let you try out everything you’ve learned in a real-world scenario without the stress of other people watching."
How am I supposed to try out everything I've learned in a "real world scenario" with just Trapper or Dwight, especially without perks?
For years gamers like myself have been begging for a way to practice in DBD. I and many others don't have a plethora of friends that play this game, so it's impossible to get a custom match going. And trying to practice while engaging in sweaty matches doesn't make for a great learning tool.
This was a big letdown in my book BHVR. You're known for your reluctance to be open with your community, so why am I not surprised that once again something that you said was going to happen, didn't happen. And the fact that nothing is being officially addressed in the forums after an all day discussion speaks volumes.
1 -
That's what I mean, they suggested there should be something there.
There's been no response to anyone mentioning it over the course of this month or since the patch even if you tag the associated people while they're around so I think it's going to go the way of console optimisation/disconnection husks/early game mechanic and probably soon enough boon totems whatever those would've been.
Just silence, no excuses, no explanations, just........

Ever since the developer update I've been discussing in these forums how excited I was for the offline bot matches. I figured that no mods or developers stepped in to say anything because it wasn't warranted since it was happening. Little did I know that the reason why nothing was said was because most likely the bot matches got delayed, or worse scrapped, and they didn't want to continue pissing people off (which is something they're rather good at).
Resident Evil was one of the worst bug-filled chapters that BHVR has ever released. I mean, the new map was literally unplayable for over a month (and that's not including the poor performance affecting consoles), and now they either straight up lied about the bot matches, or it's been delayed/canceled and they don't care to say anything. I can only speak for myself, but I am so tired of supporting this game. I feel like I keep stepping back into an abusive relationship because I'm trying to convince myself that one day "they'll be better". LOL

Now that we see that the bot matches haven't arrived, I can re-read that paragraph and see how someone could have written it as an awkward, poorly-contextualized way of saying, "Related to the upcoming changes we're talking about, we're also really happy to tell you that, as of our previous update, new players can now play a bot match to practice what they learned in the tutorial before loading into a real game."
It's still a bummer, though.

There's no way to misconstrue what was said in the developer update. The developer update literally mentioned "offline" bot matches for the mid chapter update. It referred to the live bot matches in the game currently, and what that refers to is what can be found with Trapper and Dwight. Currently there is nothing to be had offline in any way shape or form.

Its one of the reasons I stopped playing this game on top of always being the first to die in survivor matches because every single killer and their mom love to tunnel me to death (I only try to do gens, heal teammates and unhook when necessary. Hell, I even tried to switch characters to see if that'd help but nope) so the idea of having a bot match that may actually give rewards for playing was more than enough reason to come back but once again, these dumbass devs would rather stay competitive like every game company ever when a bot mode with progression would be scoring them not only more players but also revenue because there would be incentive to complete the rifts and their challenges in the bot mode.
3 -
The devs lied about something....wow call me shocked /s
3 -
I just dont understand why is it so hard for devs to make an option in Custom Game to play alone, on an empty map. Thats the only tutorial people asked them to do for years.
3 -
Probably because the game is built on the foundation that if only one person is on the map, the trial ends immediately, and changing that could cause problems (like trials not ending when only one person remains).
0 -
I dont believe its impossible to make an option to disable this logic. Or create a workaround like they always do, and spawn a bot somewhere in a map.
2 -
I'd be fine if there weren't any progression at all, and just a custom mode, but with bots. I also found it highly ridiculous that during the anniversary stream, they asked for the veteran players to be welcoming of all the new players coming into the game thanks to Resident Evil, because they knew that their matchmaking algorithm would be pairing them up with one another (which should never happen). Expecting veterans to take it easy on newer players because newer players have no way to practice outside of sweaty matches is a tall order.
But considering how poorly everything was optimized, and the fact that you couldn't play the new map for over a month, no doubt already left a bad taste in those players mouths. First impressions are everything, and Resident Evil left one to keep any new player away.

And I can understand that if you're playing on the servers, but this was supposed to be offline bot matches which wouldn't affect anything. Either they straight up lied about having offline bot matches, or it was delayed / canceled and they don't care to say anything.
0 -
That's precisely what I thought would happen at some point too. Dead by Daylight Mobile already does this, so why can't the main game too?
0 -
I can't see any option for bot games, it looks like the feature was delayed.
0 -
I hope it was just delayed too, but BHVR is so poor at communicating with their community, that we're left grasping at straws here.
3 -
@DeathByGiggles I think you were the one who wrote or published the dev diary where they were mentioned, could you clarify?
2 -
since they already have a bot match mode, it shouldn't take that much time or resources. let us choose killer/map/perks. I don't know why they don't do it.
1 -
I'll never understand how the free mobile game can have a bot mode, but not the main game that costs money. DBD mobile had a practice mode up and running within a few months, whereas DBD proper hasn't had one in over 5 years.

More silence. What a shock.

This is literally the only thing I want in the game at this point. I’m kind of over being told to kill myself after every match. Granted, I’ve disabled the chat feature now, but some of the stuff I’ve heard over the years just sticks with you.
2 -
The tutorial bot matches are so useless and meaningless, as well as cringey
Bots custom matches would have been such an appreciated feature
2 -
I sympathize with you as I've had my fair share of toxic comments as well. It's easy to tell someone to just ignore it, but when you're inundated with it time and time again, it grows on you, and makes you regret ever playing the game.
1 -
It definitely would have been appreciated. There are killers that I have never tried because of the rank that I'm at. I'm going to experience nothing but sweaty matches, and I don't want to get steamrolled for hours on end while I practice.
I don't get a chance to play this game everyday and when I do it's only for a few hours, so yeah I would highly appreciate an offline bot mode like what they said was going to be there.
2 -
I will admit that the redesigned tutorial is nice, but the fact that there is nothing to be found offline in any way is really disappointing. And since BHVR is being quiet on the matter, means that they're probably hoping that everyone will forget about this like how they mentioned console optimization without actually doing anything about it.
