Increase Movement Speed

Survivor and Killer

  • Survivors and Killers now run at an increased base movement speed of +10%

Survivors

  • Generators now spread further apart from each other.
  • Loop sizes are increased slightly to compensate for the increase in movement speed.

Killers

  • Basic Attack and Special Attack cooldowns are reduced accordingly to mobility changes.
  • Vaulting speed is increased by 10%
  • Pallet and wall breaking speed is increased by 15%
  • Pallet stun duration is reduced by 10%
  • The effects of perks that effect these are reduced.
  • Totems are now spread further apart from each other and are in new spawn locations.

What Does This Do?

This game has an immense pacing issue with its maps. For many of the maps in this game, they are far too big to traverse and are quite cumbersome at times to navigate around.

However, instead of reducing the size of these maps, I think the more effective solution is to simply increase the movement speed of Survivors and Killers so, in a way, they can actually get around these areas much faster without overwhelming the game by a significant amount. This also increases overall fluidity and feel of the game since now you can move at a speed that doesn't feel all too sluggish.

The changes to loops and other Killer mobility changes also make chases far more hectic and frantic than before, and also compensates for Survivors having much faster movement speed than they did before.

Some maps may need to grow in size to compensate for this, too, as there are indeed a few smaller maps in the game that would need a slight rework or resizing to fit this new change. In addition, Generator spawns would typically need to be moved further apart from each other in order to also compensate for Survivors and Killers being able to reach them at a much faster speed than before.

This would be the biggest improvement to the game in terms of match pacing and wouldn't necessarily change much of anything; Survivors and Killers still move at the same speed relative to each other, it's just that their mobility is now just increased by 10% each, which is primarily for map traversal.

Just imagine a game with this in mind. It'd make for a much faster-paced game than we have now, but something that would be good for the health of the game itself.

If your increasing both survivors and killers speed how does that change anything? A better change would be is just shrinking maps to be closer in size to coal tower

Shrinking the size is just the more complicated and costly method from a development standpoint.

Why change the size of every map when you can instead change one simple part of every characters' code and make it so that they just run faster? All that is occurring with my changes would be much less complicated and more cost-effective than having to shorten an entire map and redo every possible placement from scratch.

It sounds like a double edged sword where the games can get more chaotic and fast but also more unorganized and messy in a way cause that sluggishness was also a time to think and coordinate in a way so that mistakes you make can be redeemed.

Changing speed values isn't that simple when you factor in how other things in the game will be affected. There are multiple perks and add-ons that have an effect on movement. There are multiple killers whose actual power calls for increased movement speed as well. These are underpinned by the fact that survivors and killers move at the listed speeds they do now. A base 10% increase means a ton of adjustments and testing to a lot of things. Increasing things like vaulting speed also messes with animations which will need to be retimed or things will look like you're going through time dilatation. Palette breaking takes 2s without brutal strength and 1 with it currently and that shouldn't be any faster for balance purposes. Also not for palette breaking that is just universal speed and a single perk so imagine cloaked Wraith zipping around like a madman kicking palettes at the speed of sound.

Map size is already one of the biggest issues in the game, but it is something they can actually fix without necessarily get into the weeds of sorting out perks. While I don't agree every map should be the size coal tower maps like RPD and to a lesser extent Midwich actually could do with either being smaller or have their tilesets adjusted to be easier to navigate.

Because movement speed increase would make certain things (such as vaulting and breaking for Killers) cause more distance between Survivor and Killer if left alone. It's a compensation.

You can't shrink maps without also nerfing the 4 high mobility killers: Nurse, Blight, Billy and Wraith. They already dominate small maps, shrinking the rest of the maps would require a nerf to them.

We can shrink maps and adjust accordingly but let's not act like the rcpd map red forest/temple rotten fields aren't too big
