SBMM invisibility is counterproductive

Because then we'd be able to correlate when our score rises or dipped based on how our games went as well as compare our scores with the rest of the community to get a general understanding of where we are skill wise as well seeing whether or not matchmaking is actually working as intended and we are being matched with people are skill level. There are a myriad of reasons why I'd want to know how my skill is being rated since that along with map RNG will likely be the 2 largest factors determining if I have fun in that match as well as whether I'm likely to win or not.

Literally what the devs don't want, as has already been said multiple times.
as well seeing whether or not matchmaking is actually working as intended and we are being matched with people are skill level
Stop looking at numbers for that, focus on how the trials are going.

There's 3 big reasons why SBMM scores should remain hidden.
- Elitism. Give players any kind of number at all, and they'll lord it over other players who have a smaller number than they do.
- Playing for the number. It doesn't matter how well your ranking system is designed, people are going to do their best to reverse engineer the system. Once that happens, at least some players will change how they play solely to get better numbers. Occasionally this will result in some very very divergent play styles that aren't good for the game.
- Stress. For at least some players, having their ranking number visible is stressful. Having it go down doesn't feel good and having it lower than you want it to be also doesn't feel good. Players who are stressed and on edge are much more likely to lash out at either their teammates or their opposition for real or perceived acts of sabotage towards them having a good match.
None of those things are things you want in a noncompetitive game like DBD. So... they're keeping it hidden. Which is the right call.

They won't show MMR directly so people can't abuse their system, but they could consider some indirect indication for the purpose of penis length measurement. In Starcraft 2 there is a league system: Bronze league, Silver league, Golden league, Diamond league, etc., which depends on your MMR. BHVR could implement something like that: you see your league, but don't see your exact rating.

IF THE SCORES ARE MISMATCHED AS ######### AND THE MATCH GOES WELL THEN THE SCORE ISNT WORKING, VICE VERSA. Jesus f*cking Christ I have zero trust BHVR will make a good system and I don't trust them with some invisible score, imagine if current ranks were always kept hidden then we probably wouldn't be even getting this new matchmaking. Why is it so hard to understand that.
1 -
Okay, firstly I already addressed that in my original post and it covers 3 as well, who the f*ck cares so deeply about what rank you are?. The only reason I want to know is to see if I or others are actually being put up against people their skill levels, if someone cares so much about their rank they're gonna play sweaty anyways and if the system is good then it wouldn't reward playstyles that actively hurt the game. People that stressed out shouldn't be playing a multiplayer game in the first place and is no excuse to hide such an important score.
if knowing the score would be so damaging then the score shouldn't be implemented in the first place.

It has to stay hidden or people would find out how it works and manipulate it.
For example, the Victory Cube was an attempt of a different rank system. Once people figured out that 2 kills and 1 hook is a guaranteed pip, they started to camp the first survivor they found. Simply because those 2 kills + 1 hook were more important pip wise, than for example getting 8 hooks and 0 kills.

its not just a dick measuring contest, it's also a matter of being able to determine if their system even works properly isn't just as bad as the current system. Another thing is a feeling of skill progression and actually having a numerical value to show you getting better at the game. Also a well made system shouldn't be so easily abusable and if it is then players should know so that they can actually give proper feedback since let's be honest the BHVR testing team doesn't have the best track record.

Okay that's an example of a bad matchmaking system, how will we know if the current system isn't just as bad as that if we don't know how the system works and if they've made a good system it shouldn't be so easily and widely abusable

You should notice it, by having a more enjoyable and fun experience. Not just stomping new players or getting stomped by vets.
2 -
Nope, that just means that the players' MMR needs to be adjusted, which the algorithm will do on its own and you have no way of knowing unless you stalk those players.

And when it doesnt go well.. we'll just have a thumb up our *ss with no idea why it's happening, since I know this is only from personal experience but my games have barely changed at all since it started still just as 4 out or 4k as before with survivors either being all extremely competent or not understanding that wraith can pick people out of lockers while cloaked

If that's happening, you need to let the devs know so that they can look into it and figure out the reason. How do you expect to figure out what's going on if:
- You have no access to the algorithm.
- Even if you did, you don't have access to those players' trials, how they went, etc.
1 -
And if its happening consistently to a large amount players what then? and how will people know where they are skill wise, how will people even know if they are getting better and not just getting placed with people who are worse and worse. So again my whole concern is that I have zero trust with bhvr's ability to make a well functioning mmr and so the score being visible gives it a large amount of transparency

Dick measurement is the most important thing about this idea for me tbh. I want to know if I am trash at the game, or mediocre, or actually good, and also that I am better than that guy in my lobby. Or worse.
Regarding this system working or not - nothing will be worse than ranking system, so whatever. I am playing a game where matchmaking is purely random and it is still fun. So that's what is the most important - if you have fun or not.

Well from my own scores and what other peoples score in the matches that were extremely one sided, and even if I have no access to the algorithm I'd have access to the outcomes of the algorithm namely MY OWN F*CKING SCORE
0 -
For all we know the SBMM is just the same basic system, but hidden, with the complete lack of transparency we will have no idea what the game even considers a win or a loss and what it will take into account to determine your skill.
2 -
No, that just tells you if the scores need to be adjusted. Again, not useful information for you because you can't follow up.
0 -
Well thats what those tests are for. To figure out of it goes well or not and adjust the algorythm accordingly.

You might not care about the number you have but a LOT of people will care about their number. That's just what happens with any PvP game with a number. People care. People care way too much.
As far as "if the system is good then it wouldn't reward playstyles that actively hurt the game". Are you familiar with what an Exploit is? Or the law of unintended consequences? It doesn't matter how good a system you make... thousands upon thousands of people poking and prodding at it with the express purpose of getting the most out of it WILL find things. Building a perfect system is impossible. However, you can't manipulate a black box where you can't see the results it is spitting out.
As for your last statement... the devs need something to feed the matchmaker to let it have a chance of making reasonably fair matches. I don't think anybody has come up with a perfect way to do that in an online multiplayer game. So far a modified version of the classic ELO system is the best people have come up with. That's why the number exists. It serves a very important role... but having it visible causes problems.

I can understand why you hide rank during the test but i cant understand why you would hide the sbmm number from the player. Exemple if my sbmm score is 400 and i play against survivor who their sbmm score is 800 and they destroy me how im suppose to give feedback for that i could think i just got a bad game and never know i got an unfair match to begin with. If you can answer that this could be great but i dont think you can sadly

Imagine the following: you can see at least your MMR. You play a game where you loop the killer for 5 gens and then escape. You type "gg" or alternatively "gg ez" and are already prepared to go for the next game, but you notice your MMR has actually decreased for this game, because you were so busy looping you didn't do enough gens and unhooks, and those are metrics (secretly) required by the MMR, so the MMR system thinks you did bad even though it was the best game of the day for you. Then you see it clearly doesn't work and uses wrong metrics (those of emblems are trash, and those are most likely to be actually used by MMR algorithm, since it's BHVR). So you get frustrated and go to forums complaining about it. And there will be a ton of complaining from other players too. Obviously the devs don't want it, it's annoying as hell.
And imagine if the algorithm stays the same, but your MMR is hidden. Then you won't even know your rating was decreased and you will live on in your blissful ignorance. You are happy (well, at least until you hit hard elo hell, and then it'll be too late), the devs are happy, everyone is happy.
This is exactly why MMR is hidden.

I'm on about without matchmaking, with mmr my survivor life is like 100times easier, people actually do gens lol

I wish the mmr was shown if I don't know if I ranked up or down why should I give a ######### about the mmr system
