We lose another license content, what do you do?

What would you do if we were to lose more of the licensed content out of the game? Losing characters and a whole map is a big ######### L for the game for me, so losing another one would make me leave the game for sure/

If we lose Myers and PH, I am out.

To be honest, I wouldn't really miss any licensed maps we have right now, but it'd still be sad.

Panic, be scared, and depending on the license either buy cosmetics for them before they're gone or not (I said earlier I'm buying every Steve skin but that's because I love Stranger Things and Steve, but I don't think I'd do that if it was Tapp for example)

Keep playing? I've pretty much always found the original Killers to be more fun. Myers is an exception though... you can do some really unique and fun things with his Tier 1 power.

Nothing. I've already left the game for different reasons, and this is all I can do

There's 11 licenses in the game by tomorrow. From survivors to killers and their maps, that is a substantial amount of content. Close to half of the entire game's content, even.

Although it can't be said for sure, I think DbD won't last a year without its licenses.

The main problem is everything is lost to new players. If dbd starts losing licenses, then the game will essentially be two different games based on what content and killers are available for people with these characters and people who cannot get them.

Not for people enjoy the map :< it is one of the best indoor maps imo and I am sad to see it go. I loved the vibe of it.

I know a lot of people hate indoor maps tho so that is a win for them ^^"

  • I currently have all of the licensed characters purchased, so the only thing that gets lost are the maps. And to be honest this game doesn't need licensed maps. They are very cool, but they can make original ones that are just as cool.

If it becomes a trend then all my excitement for licensed content would die. I would then hope bhvr sticks with original releases.

It has been 5 years tho and this is the first time for something like this to happen. Hopefully it will never happen again.

Besides losing the map does this mean Demo will be unchangeable from now on? Will BHVR be unable to give him and nerfs/buffs in the future?

I only miss a few licensed chapters, and I didn't buy them because I didn't care about the characters. I think I'd be sad for new players who could want to buy them... But I won't leave because a license is gone.

Actually, I think they could do maps which take inspiration into the license. Like, nothing's wrong about making a laboratory map... I prefer original maps tho. The licensed ones are often the worst to play. (I'm looking at you, Haddonfield!)

I'm just curious: if you left, why do you still read the forums? Not judging, just curious as I said.

All the questions that are answered as of right now by the mod, we don't know exactly what would happen to demogorgon from chaning his power etc, perspective.

It really depends. I would assume the issue with licensed content mostly has to do with the license holder and not BHVR. Of course BHVR would want to keep Stranger Things content in the game, it had to be Netflix that pulled the plug.

Look at what happened to Friday the 13th. A whole game got stopped in it's tracks over licensing issues.

    3 reasons why:

    -My friends in here.

-I love what DBD once was, merely hate what it currently is.

-My mission is not yet accomplished.

I would be worried about the security of the game’s future, but try to remind myself that licenses have to go through legal red tape, and sometimes original creators can be dicks.

Yeah, it gets messy as Licenses evolve change hands and leave behind old creators who feel entitled to money made long after they've had anything to do with the IP.

I won't ever quit this game, but i'll become more and more empty playing it if we lose other beloved characters. Each character is an addition to the soul of DBD, to lose them or see them less often due to them no longer being purchasable is a very sad thing.

Thank you, I appreciate the support!

I consider my personal mission to bring Old Freddy back to the game. That is the reason why I joined the Forums in the first place, on August of 2019.

You didn't lose anything if u purchased those characters or dlc Hawkins let's be real you get this map in 1 out of 40 matches if not more and it was bad map anyway in my opinion

  • miketheratguy
    miketheratguy Member Posts: 2,719

If more licensed content gets pulled but it only affects the maps and not the characters, that's not the worst case scenario but it's still a bad thing. Many of the maps in this game are similar and repetitive so losing a unique map is a bad thing, not a good thing. This game needs more map variety, not less.

So, while I'm happy that I can still retain my purchased content, I'm very sad at the prospect of losing the maps. That's half the fun of the game to me. If more maps disappear, then I'll just play the game less and less. Not as any kind of statement, but simply because the dwindling variety would reduce my enjoyment of playing the game.

Who cares, i've already got them and honestly the game is getting very inflated with new content to the point new players won't be able to keep up with pace. So I think that they should even consider stop paying other licenced killers royalties over the time.

Reskin the map and make it Blights or the basement of Lery's, it's not that hard

  • Marskan

I'm like you, now I know we can lose 40% of the content of the game at any moment and it makes me uncomfortable about the sustainability of the game. This is the real problem.

All the people who says they don't like Hawkins layout didn't understand the real change that this implies for the continuity of the game. Now we can lose content.

Could be possible that we will see ST back again some day. I could imagine that they couldn't pay the license anymore. ST is a big deal and very, very expensive. Even more with season 4 coming within the next ~6months. And this series is still growing.

I can't imagine any missbehaviour from...behav..iour... Either it's a question of money or Netflix got own goals and dbd couldnt fit them anymore. The fact that season 4 shouldve released way earlier when dbd's license were still active duo their deal I'm very sure it's the price for the content.

So we may see them back. In 3 years? 4? Or if dbd got the cash for it. For now it's Legacy content. Not only a skin, 3 whole characters. I'll take them.

Tbh I would be happy, not to be losing content or for DBD being worse but because I believe one of the main things that stops DBD from getting serious competition is their liscences if they dont have those the market can open up a lot more.

Nothing because that is not a big problem for me. Even if they removed halloween. I find original chapters nice too and what makes this game dbd will still be there.

But what will eventually make me stop is performance if I can't upgrade to next gen console in time.

If they, like, FULLY remove characters out of the game - even if you already bought them and play them - then I would be done with DBD.

I play and enjoy PH, Nemesis, Pig, GhostFace, Demo way too much to have them taken out of the game and unplayable. That would be an instant quit.

That sucks for new people who get into the game it's not missing out on some limited time cosmetics removing the Demogorgon is removing a part of the game luckily he's not OP.

Not if you want to do Jumpscare Myers properly. Lery's was good before the rework, but after that it got too many good pallets and the gens moved away from doors, so grabs were a lot harder. HNL is good for that build, because it has more balanced pallets and only a few windows.

I prefer the devs original ideas if you ask me.

If I wanted DBD for Myers, I wouldn't play the game. I would be watching the movies. It applies for this game too, I like DBD because of the game. Not because of the licenses, in fact I wish they would focus on unique ideas more, then the licenses and this has been my stance for a long time.

Well if this happens again the exact same way where the only thing removed is the map then I really don't care. All licensed maps are garbage imo.

It would certainly be very bad to lose more, and i would personally view it as extremely bad as well.

But i really liked the game before the first license, and i still would really like it, even if ALL of them were removed.

Perks are staying, Wraith ain't a license and i have no huge preference towards any map.

As long as the devs don't delete licenses 100% of their own volition, i'm staying.

If they do, that's a middlefinger the size of Jupiter to us players, so then i'm out.

DBD probably would have fallen by the wayside without the crossovers it was able to get.

Every time a license is lost, the people that started playing because of that license are likely to leave. So if they lose enough of them, they'll bleed players.

At the end of the day, I'm pretty sure all of us can admit that the game is a mess and we don't have a whole lot of transparency with the devs. Take a look at these forums for example: it's the only official place to talk about the game (without having to join discord) and it's a step above the Steam forums, which is not a compliment. Point being that the game and the community aren't stable enough to support themselves once those licenses are gone.

With this license being lost, maybe it would be a good time to start working on those areas just in case.
