Been a thing since the Rift & it's challenges we're added. You can't blame people, they're often tedious or require it rather than play the match normally and end up having to play several matches. It all comes down to time really.
It def sucks when you're the sacrifice for it on Survivor side, but it is what it is...unless the design of the Challenges are reworked, expect it to always be a thing for those wanting to do the challenges

Given that some challenges outright ask you to sabotage yourself such as "Self Deprecating Joke"...
I think its intended to cause chaos.

there are a shitton of killer challenges especially clown challenge that you have to activaley put a screw under ur nail for. making ur job harder. there are a ton of survivor challenges that make u have to farm, waste time. and sandbag ur teammates.

I do it sometimes as a killer like Clown's yellow bottle challenge or Plagu's corrupt purge challenge.
As a survivor, unhook challenges are timeconsuming because I rarely pick up BT just for that challenge. Still I try to umhook as safe as possible or take hit and start chase with killer to save them.
I do not see usually survivors throw game away for challenges tho. I see more killers to do that.

The sabotage hooks challenges pisses me off. When I’m doing it, I make sure the killer is pre-occupied. When my teammates are doing it, it’s always when the killer is looking for someone, and that idiot teammate is right next to me. 😤
