Why does camping hooks have no detriment to killers?
Hey all! Genuine question as I’m still relatively new to the game. I noticed that the killers have basically no penalty when it comes to camping hooked survivors (besides maybe losing gens if camped at the beginning of the game). But also survivors get crows above their head if they’re stationary too long, too. I unfortunately don’t have the perks able to rescue myself so it usually leads to my death.
I’m sure this has been asked many times before but I couldn’t find an answer myself so I thought I’d reach out to try and get one. Thanks in advance and happy surviving/slaying!

They do recieve a penalty to emblem points

Actually they lose points for being close to the hook. What you have to realize is that some players don't care about the points - they care about the number of kills.
Under CHASER emblem:
- -3 points: deducted each second you are within moderate proximity (16 metres) to a hooked Survivor (only applied after 10 seconds)
- -7.5 points: deducted each second you are within extreme proximity (8 metres) to a hooked Survivor (only applied after 10 seconds)

- It's boring for everyone involved.
- you give up your gen pressure.
- people will usually be mean after.
these are just my first thoughts. no one will stop you from playing how you want to.

Camping is penalized by the emblem system. (Well, the old one at least. Not sure about MMR, but I'm sure it does, too.)
The devs also once tried a system that paused the hooked survivor's timer if the killer was within a certain range, but it was removed because survivors abused it.

The crows I think is more to help survivors. It shows the killer that majority of the time a person who is hiding is not helping fellow survivors. So I see it as the killer can go after those people first which is good in my book. The camping/tunneling thing happens only because survivors like to pull people off hooks in front of the killer which makes them stay by the hook to protect their kill. I used to have a problem with it but I got used to it. When you play the other side it makes more sense and I am a survivor main. Remember it is 4 survivors verses one killer.😊

They do, they lose emblems and also the game if survivors don't play altruisticly.

It's an easy way to lose a game at high ranks, so killers grow out of it. Heck today We had a leatherface try it on my solo queue super survivors and we knocked out gens and let each other fall to the second hook state (so we all ended the match on Entity Summoned) to do generators in peace.
Leatherface got one of us due to NOED, but it didn't really work out for them. If it was really, really effective everyone would do it.

If survivors don't feed a camping killer they can get the gens done and leave assuming the person gave a good chase.

Oh! I didn’t know they lose points, it does suck getting camped but such is life I suppose. Thanks guys!! ☺️

The new grade changes have pretty much removed the already minimal downside that camping had. You can no longer lose a grade, so if you camp at Iri 1, you will stay at Iri 1. I'd like to see some other form of punishment implemented, however it would need to be designed in such a way that it doesn't punish a killer for camping when they need to.

It depends on how they are camping. There are far too many blanket statements in this thread given how important context is. Generally speaking there is no realistic deterrent if that is what they set out to do.

And everyone gets a nice downrank. Just before sbmm came in i had a large win streak on survivor where i would depip because gens got done so fast or just safety pip every game because i couldn't get enough done. Clearly this down ranked my mmr because i am in games where survivors struggle to find a gen not to mention actually do one before all chests and totems are done.

Indeed, one cannot go down in grade, but their SBMM will. The grade is nothing but a place holder for end of season rewards.

That's exactly what these forums are for! There's a lot going on in them, I don't blame you for not wanting to search through and just make your own; keep it simple, right? A belated Welcome to the Fog, I'm sure.

Because survivors can and have abused camping penalty systems in the past.

Depipping is not a punishment.

Yah how'd they do that? Taunted the killer till he stopped camping?

They'd run the killer close to the hook on purpose.

Seems like an easy solution to that is to not pause the hook timer when in a chase

Now imagine the situation: all gens are fixed, exit gates are 99'd. Killer is camping the hook, because he has nothing else to do. Survivors don't come close to him so the chase won't start. Hook stage doesn't progress.
The game doesn't end until someone will give up.

Survivors would actually just get close enough to force the killer closer to the hook <to prevent a save> and then while they are stalling the killer, survivors teammates had basically all the time in the world to push out gens. Additionally, if the killer did end up hurting a survivor, another survivor would just take their place and or get the save while the killer was distracted. Apparently after just a little time of having the system in place the Devs realized that the system was too easy to manipulate <It ended up just punishing people who did not camp and campers wold just stay out of sixteen meters> and allowed survivors to basically have infinite time to complete the gens and or get a rescue. <The perk Camaraderie is a small glimpse into how the system could of worked> .
Camaraderie | if another Survivor is within 16 metres of your Hook while Camaraderie is active, the Struggle Phase timer is paused for 26/30/34 seconds
This is a short conclusion of the Hook pausing experiment and the result of it was the perk I just listed.
