If grades don't matter, why do I see this in almost every game?
If it's truly SBMM and all people should have similar skill, why do I see this pattern in almost every game?
Those silver and gold supposed to be same skill as iri, right? Or so we led to believe. Then why are they always play like potatoes? I don't tunnel and don't camp, but those low "grades" almost always get low BP, they almost always have low awareness and low looping skills.
Ohhh, don't get me wrong, I absolutely have fun as killer in those games... But I was on receiving end in same situation and it's 0 (zero) fun. Low grades sit on gens and get hooked in 10 seconds. High grades demoralized by observing their teammates and have to lose match because when potato is out early, there is little chance. So this becomes a game with predetermined outcome. There is no tension for me as a killer, because I know as soon as I'm down to 2 gens, I'll just go for potatos and leave the rest no chance and if potatos are not doing gens, than I farm some points with good loopers. The same pattern continued since SBMM came out. The only matches that are different are those against SWF.
Solution: stop balancing by averaging skills. This makes solo queue miserable.
No, these are not swf. I checked friend lists in Steam before selecting this match as example.

Well, as i am aware if there is a low number of people with a similar mmr to you and since there is a new killer in town they will be less matches avalaible then they have to fill with potatoes. it could also be that the low grade players are friends of other people in the lobby so they average mmr is used for making a lobby.
Most of my lobbies have been golds with silver/bronce players and some iris here and there and you can really tell them apart before knowing wich grade they have, i'm having quite some fun since most of the rituals the game has been giving me are from killers i don't use much so i can do them and even have a chance to win the matches.

If you ever start getting them, you will realize that it's just as unfun as getting pros. The best games are those where skills are similar and the outcome is unknown. I always drag out the matches to maximize BP when I realize that I got potatos, but many other killers finish match as soon as they can and that is super unfun for survivors.

What I've learned over the past 24 hours is that DBD is no longer a game that is worth my time or concern.

If what BHVR is trying to make us believe that it's truly skill based matchmaking, we shouldn't be able to predict their grades. I would bet that I can guess grade color 80% of the time before seeing results. How is that possible with true SBMM?

True. But that was before SBMM. Now it's reversed. Just had another game full of potatos. I feel so bad. And you can tell how frustrating it is for them. I don't understand how I'm still getting those grades after having 3k and 4k with new killer almost every match. They have no fun. BHVR is destroying solo queue survivors interest in this game.

This is pretty much what I'd have said if I was going to elaborate. And I'm not even new, I've been playing DBD for almost 4 years. The state of this game right now is worse than I've ever seen it. I don't know what possessed them to start SBMM in the manner that they did, with everyone starting from zero. You are correct, they are going to alienate the solo queue players on both sides, and that is the meat of their player base.

"start SBMM in the manner that they did" - I wish it was just the start. I've had about 30 matches as pinhead, since I'm trying to P3 him and it's still like that after all this time. Since I'm killer main and only play survivor for rift challenges, I'm potato survivor and I'm continuously matched with top pinheads that sometimes get 4k with only 1 or 2 gens done. I don't know who thought it's acceptable.

it's a new patch, people are all stuck together give it a month for people to spread out.
And as people have said indivdual killers have their own mmr, So anyone playing pinheead is affectivly regarded as a newbie as they have no mmr. Never mind it could Be otz or whoever playing it.

A month you say? It's an entertainment product. Who doesn't value their time and wants to spend a month of their time to be miserable instead of being entertained? This is how entertainment products die. I was going to buy another $20 of auric cells, but now I'm postponing it in case this shat dies.

They implemented an overall MMR rating for Killers you haven't played. This is to prevent skilled killers facing new players.

Grades is not the problem. It's grossly mismatched skills under the new system.

It will take time for everyone to reach their level. While the system was passively recording our results, we were in mismatched matches which can skew the rating. Give it some time.

I'm killer main. I've played over 30 matches with the new killer and nothing is changing. How many miserable matches do you think people should have?
I'm also potato survivor because I only play it for rift challenges and half the killers I faced are Grade 1 that destroy my solo queue with absolutely no chance. Like I'm out of the game with less than 10k BP. The last 2 days were absolutely miserable in solo queue, which I'm stuck in because killer queues are atrocious atm.

In what world is this fine? Match after match same story. When I try survivor, I'm the potatoe who end with less than 10k. When I play killer, it's someone else miserable. Just stop this SBMM nonsense already.

It's because they copy-pasted rank into grade. Grades will reset on the 13th and at least you won't have this visual. The MMR might still be matching you with undesirables but they'll start at Ash IV and move up through the month just based mostly on number of games played unless they're catastrophically losing many games in a row and just not advancing. You can't lose grade, so it's a no-fall system.
But it doesn't reset until the 13th. At that point, MMR will be invisible and controlling how match-ups are done, and grade will just start at the bottom and go up the more one plays.

The reason you're getting these is due to this.
You are playing pinhead as I seen in a comment, hes a new killer meaning you have to find your placement. Because you are placed against low mmr and winning you're only gaining low mmr and therefore versing more low mmr players (you're lucky)
For me I versed higher mmr likely red ranks before and that's where my pinhead has been placed now. I basically skipped a bunch of mmr by beating a decent mmr team while you're slowly climbing because you're only beating low mmr.
After alot of games this will fix itself. But people have smurfs and alot of people are now playing roles/killers they normally wouldn't and expect to already be placed yet they dont yet have a rating and could verse very good players

Not just that, but they conveniently left behind grades, which apparently completely give away the "secret".

Because people complained they couldn't see other people's Grades. The devs said these do not represent rank now as it doesn't depip at certain points, so someone who played for a long time and took slower to get Iri isn't necessarily as good as someone who is excellent but doesn't play as long.
As the system doesn't work on a rank basis but a skill basis, but the emblem system continues as before (which people said was rubbish anyway). I think that since this was the case, devs were concerned people would read into the grade more than they should.

Almost. I think they have the old system, but separated it by killer, maybe tweaked a few minor parameters because each killer has slightly different scoring system. It's blatantly obvious to me that there is not actual SKILL based matchmaking in place.

Don't count on it. They know it would be to easy to criticize it and they don't want that. No one wants to show something that they are not proud of.

Don't roast me but all I saw without reading the whole thing, just seeing the length (forgive me I'm running on no sleep and I'm sick) and the words "pattern" and "grades" is this meme:
But no, gold is not Iri. It's like purple ranks. I.e, I'm gold 1 which is like rank 5 fixing to be Iri 4 = rank 4. You can check out the wiki on the grade system if you already haven't, it might clear some things up. :)

They've been collecting MMR data for months and months. Survivor players are where they're meant to be, it's only veteran killers playing Pinhead that messes with the matchmaking RN.

Just look at twitch streams of pros who play 6 hours a day. It's messed up on every killer for everyone, even for those that play for living.

I'm cutting out irrelevant information. I have same experience with all killers. On the other hand, I'm on receiving end when playing solo q survivor. I have probably around 100 hours experience as survivor and I was just paired with Twins killer with almost 1800 hours. We did 1 gen. By now I lost probably around 20 matches as survivor and nothing is improving in matchmaking. I've never had such horrible matchmaking before.

So while I've been pretty scathing re: SBMM so far, I do have to admit that a week out, my Survivor games have gotten to be much better matched, at least anecdotally. I'm focusing on Killer challenges this week, so we'll see how that pans out.
Any Killer mains noticed that maybe this is panning out after all?
