Does anyone like the SBMM change?

Real question, does anyone like it? On YouTube I see only people complaining about it or one after another is saying the game is no fun anymore.

I for my self don't really like it nether. The boring meta that you had to bring almost every round to have a chance is now a absolut must have when you win a few rounds because gens will fly like hell.

I don't understand why this is needed... Yeah new beginners or people that are not good at the game have now a easier time but... This is so damaging for the people who play your game much and just want to have fun.

I didn't have the best matches when I played last Thursday on my PC. Tonight when I played on my PS4, the first three games were actually decent and fun to play. Then I began to get matches with Killers with extremely sweaty builds and would tunnel and proxy camp like nobody's business. I had a Pig that was tunneling me because I was a Steve and she was also tunneling the other Steve in the match, ignoring my friend that tried to take aggro. I also had a Wraith the went with an extremely sweaty build with a mori because the whole lobby was nothing but Nea's and he assumed we were a SWF.

I felt like my games were balanced when we first started cause they were fun and actually spicy. Then as the night progressed, sweaty killers with two randos that were not the brightest. SBMM is really ruining this game and not making it fun anymore. The people who say they like SBMM are bots. How is this fun for anyone?

i am liking this new system very much i am having a more positive feeling in playing this game now that they had made adjustments to the matchmaking, etc. that is why i have returned to playing dbd after reading the news updates on the changes that were made by developers. good job dev team! thank you for taking my feedback into consideration about making the game fair for us low rank and no skill players.

Yes. No longer do I do the longest chases and 4gens a match. I'm happy to never have try so hard to do escape challenges etc.

Its actually nice to have a team that can do somewhat of a chase and THEY ACTUALLY DO GENS!

Killer was always sweaty for me anyway so nothing has changed there except I'm slightly lower on new releases

Honestly it almost did not change anything for me for Killer - I’ve been a Rank 1 Killer for a very long time and I’m super used to getting sweaty SWF teams with items and addons -

All of my Killer games are still facing against sweaty SWF teams, so not much has changed for me here.

On Survivor however; I’ve been getting much better matches and really enjoying myself,

I used to played Survivor at Purple ranks and could hardly ever get into Red Ranks, but since the MMR update I climbed to Red Grade on Survivor very easily simply by playing the game.. it’s actually been a lot more chill and I feel like I have to “carry” less than I used to before now.

overall I would say it’s been a positive change for me - and qeue times vary depending on what time I play - sometimes Killer is instant or sometime Survivor is - usually I just switch to playing the side with faster Qeues

That's the beauty of it, you CAN shut your brain off and play, but, that's life in general. You CAN shut off your brain.

Or, you could understand that DBD isn't a laidback game. People go in saying, "I just wanted a chill match." It's DBD, that doesn't happen. It's not a game for chill mode.

I chill in DBD all the time... It is a chill game because my mindset is not jacked. The people claiming they are chill have no chill. Word up.

You decide if you want to sweat or not. It is not like anyone is forcing you to do so. You wont get anything for having high MMR anyway, so no reason to sweat.

And from my experience, those who currently complain about needing to sweat were already sweating before. Like, always strong Add-Ons, always Meta-Perks, mostly strong Killers.

Geee this thread hasn't been made ad nauseum.

    Yes I statistically enjoy SBMM.

My killer rate has stayed the same, queue times are the same, matches last slightly longer, and BP gain is up slightly.

As a survivor my escape rates are slightly increased, queue times are the same, and BP gain is up over 15%.

I was Rank 1 for the past 4+ years as both survivor and killer. I still get sweats, potatoes, and salty players whether I play killer or survivor, but that is the nature of the DBD community. Unlike the majority of "mains" on the forums though I don't presume to be "high" SBMM - Maybe low tier high. Then again I have watched some of these people complaining on here who claim to be high SBMM and all I can think is "Sure Jan." Anyways - yeah I like SBMM.

Honestly, I love it! I am matched with great survivor team players against a very capable killer, and as killer the survivor opponents are challenging and fun.

I see some meta players, but also experimental builds. There are tough matches, but never stompfests.

The only issue I have is an increased waiting time for killer, but even then I think it's on average a few minutes longer.

In terms of how I play (because it may help other experiences in the long run)) I randomize all builds and play with a little bit of silliness, but mainly with a competitive spirit - but not in a "I will tunnel you to Hell" way. I just perform as best I can with the aim of keeping the game enjoyable for me and not deliberately to ruin others.

But yeah, for me this is a brilliant change.

If the rumors are true, high mmr is not actually realistically out of anyone's reach. But I would take those with a grain of salt for obvious reasons.

Personally I like it a lot, most of the time I try a new killer I stomp my first few games. On the survivor side (where I have the most hours) the exprience is similar to before SBMM, maybe a few more unskilled survivors but nothing serious.

Queue times are higher, survivors make my matches miserable, or are potatoes.

The system has failed as far as I've experienced.

Yes. I can play my off meta doc build with having to worry about a full sweat team going ######### crazy on gens and the game ending in like 5 mins

  • SweetTerror
    SweetTerror Member Posts: 2,695

If you're playing solo survivor then the experience has been more beneficial as you'll be teamed up with more confident players, however this new MMR seems to pit my killers against players that have thousands of hours in the game, which I don't have. In other words, I'm playing far more sweaty killer matches than I ever did before. I don't play a whole lot of killer, but when I do I'm in it for the fun of it since I don't like to use meta builds. Sadly though without massive slowdown perks, matches go by in less than 5 minutes, which is no fun.

I would consider myself not as high skill player. Ok both sides. SBMM kinda works for me, as I get mostly opponents/teammates of my skill. Meaning, I have a chance at winning. There are sometimes survs that can confidently loop me, but this number has gone down from before SBMM (emblem based matchmaking was a nightmare)

what i noticed by watching a few content creators that hate on SBMM: they intentionally play worse than they could to make the game unfun for their opponents and then they blame SBMM/the devs for everything. And using phrases like ‚having to sweat‘ while not even really paying attention to the game and mostly reading the chat and talking to their community… like.. they are actually expecting to win without putting in any effort at all. (Which they admittedly got before SBMM). But there are 4 other players in the match.

Fair matchmaking doesn’t mean the matchmaking should be in your favor. It should give every player a fair chance at at least being able to play the game.

Right.....Sbmm gets as much talk as FNAF when a new killer is coming. I am not saying my experience has been 100% fun but I still don't want old MM that I know for a fact.

  • I like it. I'm getting matched against survivors that are like my skill level. Before in red ranks i'd often go against clicky clicky twitch swfs who play the game 7k hours a day

Can't really shut off my brain if i was already at the max Mmr..

So i'm experiencing living hell just about every match. (Including Pinhead which i barely play aswel)

I didn't sweat in my previous matches at all.. At times all i did was wanting to get clips with huntress with a all seeing build,

Or flicks with blights, Hell. even M2illy on curves, and it still for whatever reason put me at high mmr...

That and being a Variety killer now sucks.. which i don't dare play any other killer other than the high tier killers,

  • Aven_Fallen
    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 16,355

Because you faced Potatoes before. This is why you were able to do stuff like that, you are not at that Level, but you got boosted because you played against Potato Survivors. Apparently many Killers have high MMR and only a few Survivors (which also explains the long queue times).

If you keep playing, you should end up at a chill level at some point.

  • Verconissp
    Verconissp Member Posts: 1,589

    The issue with this statement?

Say you're at the max... 1900 Mmr. you're already facing alot of survivors up here as it stands,

Then lets say you have variety in your killers.. for me that's 25 ish of them,

Now if i wanted to go play trapper, He's already at 1900 mmr as it stands, aswel with like many other killers. But pinhead? he started at 1700 so when i had gone for adept on em, i only got sweats galore when i don't even know how to use said power..

There's some killers that standa chance and other killers you might as well afk...

And the sad part is. Not all my games before SBMM was potatoes, some were actually Decent, but bleet flicks best flicks,

SBMM for survivor makes the game a cake walk until you stumble upon selfish Q SWF players of course. But otherwise it's fun for survivor. For killer it's a nightmare I've played long enough to know that MMR is a failed project already. My MMR won't lower because when it lowers enough to get players who are at my skill but can't 4 escape me. Then they obviously aren't at my skill level.

As the dust settles, no. As I expected, by merely being competent and not choosing the sweatiest builds or having the sweatiest playstyles, I regularly get large SWFs or survivor meta builds that outclass my own. People that say "don't sweat and you won't get these people" are just full of it. There's really not a point in not choosing a stronger build since no matter what, you're going to be facing annoying stuff on the regular anyway. Thankfully, this MMR is not the most consistent thing ever, but the quality of life in the game has gone down. This change is only good for bad survivors and screws over everyone else.

yes i do, all i wanted is to play with people close to my skill level and its (mostly) what I got. Even if I lose, I still I have fun. Before the MMR my games where just stomp fest where it was either 3-4k or 3-4 escape. Now I feel game can be "lost" at anytime instead "we completed 5 gens and the killer barely got a hook" or "lol i got 8 hooks and survs barely completed 1 gen".

It’s not enjoyable anymore. I had played the game everyday since I got it up until SBMM. I haven’t played now in probably 5 days. Not sure if I’ll go back to it or not. All my friends I played with quit after the change. I can’t imagine anyone enjoying the change other than brand new and low skill players.

    ElusivePukka Member Posts: 1,599

No, I don't like the change. I also disagree that you "need" meta - just play well, and even meme builds will keep both sides going fine provided you've given yourself a chance to know what you're doing.

  • JohnWeak
    JohnWeak Member Posts: 854

I don't think it's balanced as you can bring things that make you even stronger.

When i play survivor, i mostly play soloQ and without item.

I, of course, reached high MMR (seeing the killer i face and the survivor i'm matched with).

So now imagine 4 competent loopers like me, let's say average mmr = 1900 (the max); it's already horrible. And now imagine we bring items, what would be our new mmr ?

For killers, it's impossible to win against some team composition... no way.

  • JohnWeak
    JohnWeak Member Posts: 854

    Typical high MMR killer lobby.

How did i win ? Well you know it, tunneling the first one, slugging to get another down. And then tunneling the second one to have two P3 in early game.

    Was it sweaty ? No

    Was it fun ? No

Do i have to play like this to win against that kind of team ? Yes

  • pseudechis
    pseudechis Member Posts: 3,904

    Honestly no its not good.

It seems great if you are a survivor, as you often have competent team mates, but you have to understand that a really good team can destroy most killers.

Mistakes on the survivor side are far more forgivable than mistakes on the killer side, often it took that one potato to balance the game out. Without mr potato killer games are all or nothing sweat fests.

Its a shame because last time they ran the matchmaking test, I had great games. They felt really close and fun to play.

This time so far every game is the same... as killer I sweat like a beast to get 1-2 hooks and often end up camping and tunneling 1 person just for the single kill because nothing else works. On survivor I have competent team mates and we can smash out the gens and usually all escape, bar the one guy whom got camped and tunneled that game.

The queue times have gotten huge too, which blows as I'm waiting extra time for such lackluster games. The number of survivors really rubbing in the face of killers every game has been terrible. I'm disgusted by my opponents and my team mates.

So no I don't think any of it has been good if this is how its meant to work.

Look at all the survivor posts saying "we have competent team mates and win its great". I don't find that fun because why would I play a survival horror game where my survival is all but guaranteed. Nothing more dull than a lackluster antagonist who is no threat.

  • GenJockeyNance
    GenJockeyNance Member Posts: 687

As survivor, my queue times are instant but the teammates will be either really good or really bad or a mix between the two like in example me and another player are clearly not meant to be matched with the killer as he's being juiced but the other two will go down faster than a bucket of chicken at a homeless shelter.

The killers have been mostly baby killers - today alone I have had 3 Ghostfaces back to back. One played normally and I felt was near my skill level - it was a good match even if I lost. Another tunneled every person off the hook. The most recent one both tunneled and face camped everyone to death who also hit me on hook repeatedly because I broke him out of stealth and he didn't like being blinded so much at pallets. Then some killers I get are actually, I feel, at my skill level and it's pretty evenly fair across the board.

Again as I've mentioned in previous posts, I haven't played killer really. I still feel like dirt so sticking to the less stressful side of things.

    So SBMM is... Okay.
