Adding Directional Phasing Sound is bad for mind game
I believe reworks should encourage mind game, and when you add "Directional sound" you take this away.
Instead, removing 24 meter condition and keeping non-directional sound would helped with the guessing game. In that way, you would now if she is phasing or not at all times, just wouldn't know which direction she is coming from and both sides could have the mind game advantage.
On the other hand, footstep visuals are very good implement, imo. This is the type of counter-play information I would like to see in the game. She hear your footsteps, you see hers, so you could have a fair fighting.

That would stop the stand still mindgame but it wouldn't actually help all that much since Spirit can still hear your breathing and your groans of pain when injured. Directional phasing will go a long way to helping with playing against Spirit.

When she is phasing, she is basically blind. All she has is sound. And as a counter now survivors have footstep visuals. I'd call this even. Do you remember the time when there was a sound bug on Spirit, so you would hear the direction of her while phasing. That bug made her unplayable. I would hate to see that happen again. Yes, she is one of the strongest killers, but not sure that she deserves such butchering.

I remember it not really being that big an issue. I think the visible footsteps is overkill, but directional phasing needs to be a thing. I have played Spirit, and I got a 4k with no perks and no add-ons. Scratch marks and sound is really all you need as Spirit.

There are literally an achievement to escape as survivor without perks. Being able to win without perks isn't itself an indication something is OP. That being said, you do not remember correctly, and directional phasing should not be a thing. It made it so she was way easier to play against at the higher level. You won't notice much at the lower level from it, because people don't have the senses trained to determine that kind of stuff and react. But at the high level, where she is one of the only viable killers, it ruins her. The problem is that Spirit is a character where there is actual mind games, something most DBD players aren't use to. You have to actually watch and observe your opponent, learn, adjust, condition. It's not a killer where the survivors have total control like they usually do.

Sound is not as bad as visual tracking.

I agree with @BastardKing, at high ranks she got totally destroyed with that bug. It was pointless to play as her against decent survivors. And that "accidental" bug is her feature now.
Hearing her direction gives survivor total control in a chase. But if they have to look for the dust, they have to shift their focus. A good survivor who doesn't need to actively look for killer indications and just hears them is a dangerous thing. You need some wiggle room for mindgame.
For example, if I only hear her changing direction in a loop, I would easily adapt for a new position, but if I have to look for her footsteps I would have to mind game. Imagine if heartbeat is directional. That would completely made red light mindgame useless, much like an open loop. Good survivors destroy you in openly visible loops, cause they immediately react to your movements. That'd be like playing at open loops all the time for Spirit.

On an open field with lots of visual. But behind walls, sound gives survivor the upper hand.

Can't disagree, they really gutted the mindgames with both changes.

You travel at insane speed, you're invisible, and you're telling me you won't be able to mind game with that even if your phase can be heard in a direction?
1 -
Invisible part pretty much goes to waste with directional sound imo. Her phasing speed is not that insane without an add-on.
And tell me more about your open loop mind game skills. Killer moves, survivor sees and counter moves. Hearing her change direction is exactly like that. How is that mind gameable? Enlighten me please.

This is just a lie; spirit can outrun any survivor at any loop. Acting like this, along with the extended lunge, doesn't affect your hits is just bullshit.
Let me play you a scenario.
You're at a long wall tile. Survivor predrops and camps pallet. You start phasing and you start going one way. Since they can only see puffs of dust they vault, but you predict this and begin going that direction before they even begin vaulting. By the time they can even vault back you've already lunged and hit them.
Saying she can't mind game because you aren't creative is dishonest.
2 -
Outrunning someone shortens the amount of times you can loop, but doesn't mean you WIN at the loop. Survivors still have the pallet, and their reaction trumps any other factor. There is literally data to show she can't, because it happened before and the survivors beat her consistently.

Oh no, I can no longer stand still and win the chase.
2 -
Its almost like she had counterplay or something. 🤔

if enough people say something persistently then it's true obv, ya goof
bolting towards the next pallet but preferably window tile tends to trump going for a 50/50, it's not like a 110% can catch up quickly
1 -
"Its not like a 110% killer can catch up quickly."
Thats... literally what her power does.
You're actually trolling.
0 -
if the spirit stands still at a pallet do you play the 50/50 and eventually take a hit or do you force her to use her power and gain distance on her either way
do you think your odds are better there? do you think if she doesn't nail you on the way out that she's anything but screwed? and do you think it's hard to start screwing with your scratch marks given you know for a fact when running off a loop the spirit has stood still at she is or will imminently be phasing towards you?
that's the entire shtick with 'stand still to win', it mostly screws a survivor at a barely safe or isolated loop, and that's what i was referring to responding to them since you seem a bit clueless

Counter play is a coin flip. It meant one side won half the time, the other side won half the time. Consistently winning is what no counterplay means. Survivors were consistently winning.
1 -
Let's take your scenario and play it. Survivor is camping that pallet. When Spirit started to phase even from the short side, survivor can easily hear her and vault to the other side. If she changes direction still they can vault accordingly. That is what I am saying. Because we had this feature as a bug so I actually do know what is going to happen. Your footstep scenario actually proves my point. Cause I think it wouldn't be that easy to hit a decent survivor. Because they scan environment pretty well. They would still have the time to react if they are looking at the right direction. And that's the definition of mind game.
Without knowing my experiences and knowledge of the game, calling me bad or dishonest, won't help to prove your point. You can't elevate yourself by belittling someone else.

Almost every killer can mind game by hiding the red stain and doubling back etc.
The idea behind a mind game is that it provides a chance to outplay eachother but have a fair chance.
They specifically wanted to get rid of spirits stand still 'mind game' because its not interactive at all.
She will be fine, she has some fun addons like blocking the windows etc. And other killers without her arsenal can mindgame just fine!
Still viable easily, she isnt dead yet, just needs to be more thought out than just listening or standing still.

Sorry, after the update I still feel the same. She is dead. Because we have already seen this "feature" as a bug last year. It killed her then, it killed her now. Total waste of time to play her.
1 -
and nobody's surprised because people that cared about spirit knew this would obliterate her and the doublespeakers who want her turned into a non-factor they stop going against got what they wanted
2 -
Hope survivors are enjoying the 5-10 min queue times with broken new perks and multiple killer nerfs.
Even more fun when you finally get into a lobby and get instantly camped/tunneled because splitting pressure is no longer viable at high levels.

The most interesting part is I never get those high level players as teammates. The survivors I am facing do everything in their power to finish the gens asap. And my teammates just strolling around the map, enjoying its beauty in every turn. At least most of the matches. I occasionally verse killers who play like me. Trying to play fair, trying to apply pressure to other gens, but only ending up with 3 hooks when gate popped. And now this boon perks are literally the final nail to the killers' coffin.
I believe making killers addon depended is a wrong strategy of design. But unfortunately every rework they do they adjusts addons too much. Survivors literally has the best dodging method for your iridescent addons. They just gives up playing, D/Cing, not running. And totally ruins your hard earned addons. You don't get to play, because they don't play. So crippling a killer base powers with nerfs, then making them strong with iridescent addons is bad for killers, bad for survivors, bad for the game imo.
