Playing Killer in public matches has become bad for my health
No joke, when I load up the game and look at the Killer Menu, I get spine chills and my hands start shaking from the stress and dread of playing another match that may go sour and frustrating and getting BM'ed by a cocky, well-organized and unempathetic Survivor team.
The amount of time it takes for me to mentally prepare myself for a round as Killer is ridiculous.
How do you screw up the atmosphere so badly, that the prospect of playing as the deadly slasher is literally more scary than playing as the meek and hapless victims?

It sounds like you have underlying anxiety or something? I've never experienced that in any PvP game ever, that's not a good sign if you're having panic like symptoms in the moments leading up to your matches you should probs keep an eye on that!

You shouldn't be scared to play killer just because some beta survivor mains can run in a circle or play their qte efficiently. Good for them! I wish I had a clap emote that I could use for when they drop a pallet as they are clearly quite proud of that accomplishment. Nothing scary about that fam, just smile and wave.

Because this is a "fun party game" that has competitive elements to it now and the game is balanced around complete mongoloids rather than decent players. Imagine balancing starcraft 2 around bronze league players, this is BHVR's method.

I get that feeling sometimes when it is my first game of killer for the day, but it usually wears off by the second or third game.
I often find myself running lightborn even when there are no flashlights in a lobby. A single flashlight save can completely ruin you as a killer if you are going against strong loopers as a weak killer.

Yeah, that's why I'm only playing Custom Games with friends for the time being. Much more chill environment.

I used to be like that when I was just starting to play PvP games. You care too much about the matches and other people which stresses you out stops you from actually enjoying the game. Best way to overcome this is to not play to win, but play to improve. That way you won't be as stressed about a match and you will get more confident the more you play.

I think you're spoiling the atmosphere for yourself. So now seriously, if it's already so far, then I would stop playing or take a break. Because that definitely goes too far! Otherwise I can recommend just play a meme build or so, but please relax....it's about nothing ? what should happen ? what are you afraid ? This is a computer game and should be fun, nothing else, so do not take it so seriously
1 -
What are you afraid of? Losing? You have to mentally prepare to play a video game? I highly suggest change the game or take a break
Edit: and this is not trying to be rude just objective games and gaming in general is our escape from reality and irl problems even if it's half hour a day.... And it's supposed to relax us if game is mentally affecting you/anyone else needs to reconsider switching to more chill and relaxing games to not get stressed even more than needed

It's a problem with social anxiety, not with the game.
You have to be okay with losing.

The only advice i can give you is just play the game without any worries. It sounds simple yes, because it is.
What can possibly happen if you win or lose? Absolutely nothing. No one will remember you in the next minute whatever happened in the game.
Play the game the way you want and don't give a crap. Just hit the ready button.

Lol you shouldn't play any pvp game then

As others have said, this sounds like it's being caused by some form of anxiety, not the game itself.

Not a PVP related issue. No one gets nervous playing Fortnite even though it's PVP as well yet I've seen many people say they can't play killer in DBD as it makes them feel anxious and stressed.
It's probably the asymmetrical 4v1 aspect of the game which makes the killer player sort of stand in a spotlight like you're running a show making you feel like you have to perform well otherwise you'll look like you're on stage after losing your trousers.

That's why you gotta enter the stage fully naked every single time.

Maybe you're onto something. I'm sort of getting on stage fully naked by running at least 1-2 trash perks every game if that makes sense.

Holy it's just a game. How do you deal with real life stress situations??

I still don't think it's the game, but more the social environment it creates, like your analogy.
It's about feeling judged and socially pressured into playing, having fun, in a certain way for other people.

Your just going through the evolution of being a killer main. Soon you will stop caring so much. It takes awhile to learn that you are here to entertain the survivor's. Once you can accept that cold hard truth. You will approach the game differently.

But people would go blind if I did that.
Anyways, @EmeraldTiger , you most likely have social anxiety like I do and hate being in the spotlight. I felt like you do when I first started playing killer. It just feels stressful to play and worry about doing bad and having four people laugh at you during and after the match.
All I can say is you need to come to the realization that no one’s opinions of you matter as long as you haven’t done anything wrong. Your performance in a video game means nothing unless you’re playing for thousands of dollars. Just go into a match, expect to lose, and imagine all of your opponents are spoiled basement dwelling children with terrible parents that have no social skills and feel unloved. It makes the match easier for me even when I get no kills.
Finally, if it gets too much, there is nothing wrong with coming to the conclusion that the killer role just isn’t for you. I made the same decision and find that survivor is just more enjoyable. I still eat a tiny bit of anxiety when I play, but since I’m one of four in a group, my poor play and bad mistakes get overshadowed by everyone else. And if I do really bad, I just move on to the next match with no repercussions. Just make sure to keep your profile private.

I disagree, I play tons of other PvP and multiplayer titles: Overwatch, GTA Online, Civilization VI (with friends, but still); but losing or the pressure of having to perform well for your teammates/opponents doesn't get to me nearly as much as playing Killer does. Although I do agree the "social environment" of this game definitely has a role to play here.

It's the (1)v4 aspect, not necessarily DBD is what im trying to say. Also dbd isn't exactly relaxing anyways because it is a horror game.

Then why are you playing?

The game is addicting.
Plus, if you get tired of CoD you can go play another First-Person Shooter. If you get tired of DBD you can....go back to playing DBD.

Happens a lot in pvp games to people actually. PVP stress and performance stress is the number 1 reason why some people don't touch pvp games at all. Trust me, I've lead literal armies of people in mmos as a guild, and you will see people on numerous occasions just say F it, "I don't like pvp it stresses me out" You got a group of 150-200 people leading them around during pvp yeah if you're winning nobody is stressed out at all cause they're usually getting carried. You take that same 150-200 people and they start losing <--- all the sweats and shakes start happening then.

I remember when I start playing killer I had a good time. My first games were pretty chill and fun. Then I ranked up to the place where survivors bullying unexpirienced killers and I felt pretty much same as described in the post.
It was some kind of stress wall. When I played against confident survivors I was losing my mind. My hands were shaking and I did stupid mistakes even if I knew I do it wrong. They could just give me one free hit and run me for 5 gens. Injured survivor is appealing target so he can run a baby killer forever.
Once you stop being offended by tbaging and clicks you will have more control of situation. This is fundamental and most important part of being good killer. Stop thinking they are better than you.
Then you need to learn how to counter flashlights and stun saves. If you see them running around with flashlights be ready for save attempt. You can wait upon downed survivor and easily bait rescuer for free hit. Face the wall when picking up survivor. Hide your red stain in high wall loops. Fake your direction in short loops to make survivor hesitate. There a lot to learn to loop chase effectively. When you carrying survivor to the hook and survivors swarm you with bodyblocks, feel free to give them free hits. If you lose survivor from grasp you will get whole team injured and they won't do this trick again. Be patient and wait for dead hards when chasing injured survivor. If survivor is healthy don't be affraid of pallets, just go through and hit. Good survivors don't waste pallets when it's not necessary. This is basic for most killers.
When you have some expirience you no longer affraid to play killer even against best tournament squads. You may not win every game, but you will never be stressed about losing.

I don't get spine chills and shaky hands but I do just look at the killer select screen with my controller on the table. Every time I open the game I wonder: I really don't want to do this but it's fun but then there's balance issues, but it's cool, but I don't want to deal with survivors being toxic, but I want to play iconic characters, but bad optimization, but this, but that, etc. I like this game but other players can be so unsympathetic that it makes something that I really like to something that I grown a slight fear to. I really wonder what can be done to reduce this problem. I sometimes think maybe balance but I'm not sure.

It just feels like you can't make 1 mistake as killer, and everything the survivors can do trumps what you can.
