is anyone else thinking about stepping away from DBD

So I've been playing DBD since the Of Flesh and Mud Chapter. I've loved the game from then till now. With some of the decisions the devs have made and the overall state of the game just feel like a sweat feast. It no longer fun to play and I've been gravitating to other games for the past few months. I wet through collage playing this game finding it a way to wind down and have fun, I've since graduated and have moved on to a full time job 40 hours a week, working in the labor force. But I've found that DBD doesn't do it for me anymore. Its more frustrating then it is fun and relaxing. Most games I don't want to go all try hard playing killer, (my favorite side) and just go all no mercy. By making sure to bring the strongest addons, the same old strong perks, and using some tactics that most survivors hate. I enjoy mixing things up with odd builds. But with the new SBMM (Skilled Based Match Making) its just made the game boring and toxic, seeing the same few survivor perks gets old fast. I'm thinking about walking away from it. Am I the only one feeling this way?

I wish, but I have a couple friends who refuse to leave so I'm stuck if I want to keep playing with them.

You played since the Hag drop. All games come to a point where you get burnt out. I quit the game once feeling burnt out but I came back when I'm refreshed and new things are in the game.

Nothing wrong with quitting then coming back someday as far as I'm aware you got your money's worth if you've been playing for that long. Don't be the same tools thinking that there's pride in leaving a video game and never coming back lmao.

It's always good to take breaks from a game that is far from perfect, even if it is addictive. I do this from time to time not playing DBD for a few days and play Zelda, Mario, GTA, Dishonored or whatever instead. I think it's healthy when you like me have 4000 hours in DBD. Now I play around 10 games per day for around 30 days in a row, then a break, and back to the game! But quit..no!

even one of the devs saying 'play something else' if the state of the game improves then ya I would be thinking about playing a lot more or getting back into it, (I don't know if I'm waking away yet) I have a job that takes up most of the day, I don't want to play a game that angers me when I'm trying to have fun and relax. https://youtu.be/tvRMd7aQ5v4

I am addicted. Frustrated, elated, happy, sad, mad, overjoyed. eager, reluctant, Just depends on the last two or three matches.

When I play with my friends, and we get a good killer, we all get handed our own body parts.

If the killer makes mistakes, we all escape and taunt killer together.

When I play alone, I get selfish sometimes and finish my gen while someone dies on the hook.

I am not going to the basement halfway across the map to get you Dwight.

  • If you're not having fun with the game anymore you don't need to quit, you just need to take a break. And then come back when you feel like playing again. If it's still not fun then take more time away from the game.

I started playing dbd when Oni and Yui were realised. After SBMM was realised my love for the game has drastically decreased. I mostly play survivor and a little bit of killer and I've just found it ends the same way and I've found that I've stopped having fun. Rather then keep complaining about the game I just decided to stop playing and at this moment in time I have no intention of returning.

If you have stopped enjoying the game the only thing I can suggest is to take a break or just quit it. The game is in a terrible state right now bugs and gameplay wise.

I have played since the Doctor's release and I am one of the last ones left still playing in my group.

I don't know if I will ever leave, but struggling through solo q has me thinking of finding some new Swfmates 🤔. And, honestly, idk if I want to actually do that again. I like the freedom of solo q as well killer.

I wouldn't say I am a on a break, but I am playing much less these last few weeks. Guess time will tell, but constantly sweating in a game is not what I want to do.

I've been playing since Oni chapter and the stale is real. SBMM could have been the nail in the coffin on how bad my recent games were. I used to play 3~4 hours a day and now I can barely stay for 5 games.

Before SBMM it was ok u could get no escapes or games where they would, but you would feel good as you didnt need to play like a dick. Yet now its full on SWF, meta perks on all surviours. Also with 3 hooks its just unbalanced alone.

This dev has shown how much it dont care at balancing things at all. They want surviors to be able to just run loops round Killers, even when i do it it shows how bad the perks, maps, add ons etc are.

I uninstalled it like 2 days after SBMM update and wont be coming back which is a shame as game was fun at times even with the bugs, now its just stale and same crap every game an now they want to add even more BS....

I haven’t played since pinhead came out and before that I didn’t play at all because console was a mess. The game just isn’t what it used to be tbh and no matter how many breaks I’ll take I think I’m done with this game

I used to play DBD like all day everyday. Around mid April I took a break from DBD until maybe like a week ago, so pretty much a five month break. After coming back I find playing so refreshing. I'm not getting mad at the game anymore, I find my knowledge and skills are pretty much reset in terms of like I'm not making dumb mistakes and I'm thinking more clear when I play. Only downside is since it has been so long since I last played and MMR has been introduced I'm pretty much starting at the bottom of the barrel, which is both good and bad. Good cause I can practice my looping etc etc slowly moving back up to where I was before I quit unfortunately I have teammates that aren't the best sometimes but whatever that's okay.

DBD is a very addicting game and it is a lot of fun I think my biggest problem before I took my break was too much DBD because as it goes too much of anything is bad for you. So if you find yourself getting frustrated take a little break and come back to it later.

way ahead of you there, i quit 2 month ago!

lets see how long this break is gonna last - i doubt ill be back soon though, unless they implement some huge QoL updates that make playing killer bearable again. its just incredibly unfun at the moment.

I've already have neither side is that fun to play anymore same meta, maps, killers, survivors, not much variety, and can't really chill anymore. I don't understand the whole point of adding SBMM into a horror game I mean come on it's a horror game they're suppose to be fun and scary not competitive and a bad stressful way

Thing about this logic is that DBD doesn't change. I took a 2 month break and came back. After playing fur 3 days I was reminded why I stopped playing.

When you take a break from most pvp games, a lot of things change. DBD isn't that.

When I came back to dbd and got back into the high ranks. Nothing had changed. The meta was still gen defense and second chance perks, camping and tunneling hasn't been addressed, survivor is still brain dead easy its not fun, killer is still a sweat fest and stressful.

That's why people take a break because when they comeback, they hope something has changed.

Well don't laugh! But lately it's been a lot of Minecraft (the being able to completely shut my mind off and chill with friends is lovely)

Back for blood releases soon and I had loads of fun in the beta (hint-its free with Xbox game pass, first day)

And my go to always and forever is ESO (elder scrolls online) and Diablo 3!

Edit- There's more games I'm waiting for to release. Alan wake remastered! Dying light 2! Such a good year for games!

I've been taking a break ever since SBMM dropped, just wanting to let that settle down. Now with Boon Totems I may take a longer one if they drop in their current state, which they will. BHVR is a business and needs to make money off this Survivor chapter. I get it from business side of things, but as a consumer it's a pretty [BAD WORD] thing to do. And no, nerfing keys does not make up for it, such an obvious and simple change should have been implemented months ago, and not until they could give toxic SWF streamers a new toy to play with.

Sadly you don't even need to have a high MMR to experience a completely lopsided SBMM experience. I'm as casual as casual gets, and I've never had to sweat this much before. I think it's tied to the fact that there aren't enough high MMR killers playing in my region so high MMR survivors are tasked with competing against me, and it's a complete wash.

I guess I wouldn't mind so much if only something could be done about SWF. That's an advantage that no Killer will ever be able to compete against, so give me something. Don't get rid of it, but give killers access to something to help.

I'm walking away due to how survivor sided this game is. Did Spirit deserve a nerf? Absolutely, but not before survivors got nerfed. They also nerfed Deathslinger (a B-tier killer mind you) who didn't even deserve a nerf. Not to mention the Ghostface nerf, proving they don't know how to balance the game...

yes I do have a full time job but that doesn't mean I need to be a slave to it. Besides I'm sure that the devs would be happy to know someone that works is playing there game. That way they are more likely going to buy skins and DLC, because they have a money to do so. If everyone that had a full job was just told to put it away, I feel as is there player base would slowly plummet as people get jobs. You can be an adult and have still hobbies.

I can relate as I went through the same phase a lot of people here seem to be going through when you play a game for 5 years. Did my stint in Overwatch before I escaped to here. And yeah, having a blast and probably will for a long time to come.

I stopped playing since SBMM dropped. Im hoping the game get's better balanced, and that the devs decide how they want Blight to function, cuz they change his collision or some other thing about him every other patch and I'm done having to relearn him every goddamn time.

Sorry but your conception is highly selective. I've been playing since end of 2019 and i can tell you that killer was lately (until the release of SBMM at least) the easy and fun role for me. I've seen the old maps, nearly all of the map changes were pro-killer. DS nerf? This one was huge for killers, it was kinda like basekit before and now killers can tunnel how they want as long as you don't tunnel off hook directly. It made solo q unplayable for me. Toolbox nerfs? Co-op gen speed nerf? Wraith buff (my main), introduction of Blight, Twins, hell even Trickster is very good if you play him right...

No one except Spirit used Stridor. I've never seen it on any other killer. They should have reworked it into something else instead of giving her a proxy nerf, that's true.

Deathslinger was highly unfun to go against at least for me but i agree that they should make him better in the 1v4, the same goes for Spirit. His 1v1 was bullshit though as it required no skill (except using a crosshair overlay or some FPS experience) from one side and pure luck from the other.

You are supposed to bring add ons, I've heard that multiple times from fog whisperers and i think even Devs, it's not comparable to surv items because once you get the perks on your killer, your bloodweb is full with add ons. I NEVER ran out of add ons on any killer since i started playing, NEVER. I even got the best ones of each killer i play at least 20 times, because i don't play them every time. You're not supposed to bring the best ones every time.

So now SBMM is a different topic which made me kinda leave the game, but still standing in the shadows and watching. But it has nothing to do with the whole killer/survivor thing.

  • MeatBycicle
    MeatBycicle Member Posts: 756

I can tell you you're wrong. You are basing all your evidence around your survivor skill level, which in the way you talk isn't that good. The game should not be balanced around casual low level play. It should be balanced around what high skill players can and will do constantly in every game.

At a certain threshold of skill, survivors will be able to loop any killer, run any tile, and will know every killer inside and out, how to abuse their power, how to make the most out of any map they end up on. With that being said, if you have 4 survivors of that caliber, even if all solo, it gets to the point that no killer can compete effectively.

Just because you cannot deal with a certain killer in a 1v1, doesn't mean good players can't. Not to mention almost every single game at high MMR is almost fully SWF, which just unbalances the game even further.

His addons that reduce the cooldown of his power was nerfed to be 1 second less but base cooldown was reduced from 30 seconds to 24 seconds.

I'm considering it. Currently only playing it at the weekend when I'm having a drink with my swf mates.

Got the new fifa and we might start playing clubs together. Though unless a game like Black Ops 1 or 2 is remastered then I won't be able to quit this game properly.

My skill level is 2500 hours and i was rank 1 on both sides before the SBMM regularly. I don't need to be a tournament player to know how this game works, but i wasn't a "casual low level player" as i played this game every day for almost 2 years.

No, this kind of balancing would be the death of this game without a 100% working SBMM. The game isn't survivor sided on casual levels. High skill level survivors are about 5% of the pub match playerbase. I won 3,5 out of 5 games before the new matchmaking and statistics show that all killers won more games than they lose. I rarely encountered those mystical death squads all the boosted killer mains talk about on the forums. This kind of balancing would be hell for the mediocre survivor playerbase as tunneling/camping is already normal at this point and counterplay goes to zero when you play solo.

There is some truth to this, but those god survivors are VERY rare, you clearly need to learn how to drop chases and work on your macro management if this is a problem for you. Some games you just can't win because this game is highly RNG and snowball-based. A mistake at the start can be enough, combined with bad RNG. You can heavily win and lose against the same team in different matches just because of RNG. Besides that i know the struggle of playing against a good team and how helpless you can feel but as i said, those matches were not the majority for me but an exception.

No, certain killer powers are sometimes a lose/lose situation for the survivor. If you can't get a hit with PH, Deathslinger, Huntress, Nemesis etc., in certain situations, for example anything that invovles animations (pallet drops, pallet vaults, window vaults), it's 100% the killers fault. There is no counterplay in those situations except for maybe coin flipping and randomly try to 360 and hoping the killer makes mistakes, but against capable killers this shouldn't work. I mean it's alright for me as long as it's balanced out by a bad macro game for example (no map pressure, no stalling), but saying that there is counterplay in 100% of the 1v1 situations is not true. Or in other words: Just because you cannot deal with a certain survivor in a 1v1, doesn't mean good killer players can't.

As i said i will not talk about SBMM as i kinda left when it started and can't really argue about those matches. It was harder than before in the few matches i did but i expected this. I still won a lot though. If you don't want to sweat then just don't, if the SBMM works it should adjust your value after a few matches.

Same, but this time feels different. I just don't care for dbd at all. Will pop on to P3 50 Mikeala (I have 116 million bps due to a save error) BUT I agree, next unlicensed chapter will probably bring me back for a few games
