Brokenbones suggests changes to improve some survivor perks

Hello there. After seeing the midchapter updating a bunch of perks, I'm here to make a thread to jot down some of my ideas on how to make some of the bad/mediocre perks for survivor worth using. The sections in brackets are the reasons why I've suggested these changes/the logic behind them.

Visionary:

You are remarkably focused on your means of escape.The Auras of Generators are revealed to you within 28/30/32 metres.

Generators in range that have at least one survivor on them are highlighted in white.

(A simple change, removed the useless cooldown and added a helpful secondary effect that could help bridge the gap between solos and groups. The white colour would be overridden by perk effects like Better Together, Blast Mine and so on.)

POised:

Achieving goals boosts your confidence.

After a Generator is completed, your scratch marks, pools of blood and grunts of pain are hidden for 6/7/8 seconds.

(Simply hiding scratch marks isn't enough for it to be useful, this buff makes the perk serve as a mini lucky break. Reduced the time from 10 seconds to 8 as a small compensation for the change)

Self Preservation:

Life is unforgiving.

The more confirmation you get of that, the more prepared you become.

Whenever another Survivor is hooked or hit with a Basic or Special Attack within 18 metres of you, Self-Preservation activates:

Scratch Marks, Grunts of Pain when injured, and Bleeding are suppressed for the next 10 seconds

(Added another activation condition in order to make the perk a little stronger, a small QOL buff to the range as well I think)

Red Herring:

You have noticed that people pay attention to whatever makes the loudest noise.

After repairing a Generator for at least 3 seconds, its Aura is highlighted to you in yellow.

  • The Generator stays highlighted until it is either fully repaired, you start repairing another Generator, or enter a Locker.
  • Entering a Locker will trigger a Loud Noise notification for the Killer at the highlighted Generator's location.
  • If the killer enters within 12m of the generator, their aura is revealed to all survivors for 4 seconds.

Red Herring has a cooldown of 55/50/40 seconds.

(Let's face it, when you bring this perk - it does nothing. When it works, it does basically nothing. Adding a small bit of team wide information would make this perk a bit more fun to use. Nothing crazy, just fun. Plus it's thematic I think)

Kinship (Formerly known as Camaraderie):

Life has taught you the importance of friendship which has given you strength.

While you are on the Hook in the Struggle Phase, Camaraderie activates:

  • If another Survivor is within 16 metres of your Hook while Camaraderie is active, the Struggle Phase timer is paused for 30/35/40 seconds.
  • While you are on the hook, every survivor will see your hook aura in yellow instead of red.

(Honestly just a small number buff and some kind of indicator that you have this perk would do it wonders. The seeing your aura in yellow instead of red is there to show that camaraderie is active but a UI change/Perk Icon showing other survivors you have it would equally be as good, if not better.)

Distortion:

You start the Trial with 3 Tokens.

Whenever the Killer attempts to read your Aura, Distortion activates and a Token is consumed:

  • Your Aura will not be shown to the Killer and you will not leave any Scratch Marks or Blood trails for the next 8/9/10 seconds
  • Performing a safe unhook rescue will award you additional tokens up to a maximum of 4 tokens at any given time.

Distortion does not activate when you are in the Dying State or in a Killer Trap.

(Love this perk, hate how bad it is at what it's designed to do. Giving a way to replenish tokens makes this perk just a little better. I couldn't think of a way to make this perk useful in every game because aside from BBQ or Nurses there aren't that many aura reading perks that get used these days

New object of obsession does what this perk does but better. Sad to say it)


Like I said, I was just jotting down random ideas - the midchapter changelist inspired me a bit. Hopefully anyone who reads these get a kick out of them, they were fun to write!

    Poised and Self Preservation still suck.

    Their activation conditions are fine, but then they need to do something more useful and appropriate to the situation.

    Poised, for example, is only useful if you happen to be being chased by the killer; in any other situation it's useless.

    Similarly when Self Preservation activates, 9/10 times the killer will keep going after the survivor they just hit or hook the survivor they just downed.

    Poised could be fixed by incorporating a charging mechanic to the perk, where each generator completed adds X number of seconds of no scratch while in chase with the killer.

    For Self Preservation I'd keep its original effect but add a secondary one where you get healed 50% faster for 45 seconds.
