Is it Time to Move on to Dead by Daylight 2?

Hey y’all, do you think it’s time for BHVR to start transitioning into making a sequel to DBD? Start over fresh with new ideas, gameplay mechanics, & Licensed Content? Maybe now would be a good time considering 8th gen consoles are not optimized to handle DBD’s current state, & now it’s becoming a question of whether or not they can (personally i don’t see why not but that’s a different topic for a different thread). What would you guys like? Keep milking the original or is it time for fresh blood?

As much as I’d like the idea to start from scratch, doing the same thing as overwatch seems pretty risky, especially because of the licenses. Yeah it could be cool, fresh gameplay, new mechanics. But they would have to leave a lot of old content behind or pay more to renew the licenses again. Plus games like Fortnite would never do that. Reworking the base game would be better and safer

They can start from scratch without a sequel. Games have done it before, going on a long, years-long hiatus to rebuild their game from the ground up. I feel like it would be healthy to do so to modernize any outdated code and keep it consistent with their present methods, but lately I feel like they're making enough progress that doing so isn't completely necessary. It's taking ages, sure, but it would take just as long if they tried going for a sequel.

I feel like a "sequel" can only work when the sequel is planned to be a Live Service to begin with with a game like this.

Dead by Daylight was planned to be a Live Service from the get-go. With a constantly updating game with new features and bug fixes that has been going on for over 5 years.

Similarly to how Payday: The Heist only had a couple of DLCs and a couple of heists, Payday 2 increased the scope massively and it's still being constantly updated to this day while Payday 3 is being developed (hopefully it won't be an Epic exclusive, Starbreeze practically came back from the dead from the help of Steam users).

Or how Team Fortress 2 became a more cartoonish and stylized version of the gritty Team Fortress, which was just a Quake mod.

Unless you change something massive about DBD to warrant a sequel, I don't think BHVR has any incentive or reason to.

A sequel would mean some of the stuff won’t make it over, primarily licensed characters but probably also original stuff. I don’t want to miss that.

also it would split up the player base as some would still resort to playing the current game.

i think the best option is to optimize and enrich the current game. But with some more risky overhauls regarding gameplay and more resources put into quality assurance.

Why risk it when you still have a steady amount of players already with the first game. Last time they tried to funnel players into a different game cough death garden cough it didn't last long.

Yes it is time, they have to change the engine asap and stop digging themselves a hole deeper than it is. They could even transfer progression from DBD 1 and keep the same killers and survivors.

No point at this stage, especially with all the licences they have going for them. Better to change the way the trial plays and morph it from gen-and-escape into a more rounded experience with a tenser or tougher game.

One issue I have with making a new game is the grind. Would we have to start over? I’d rather stick with current DBD.

  • It wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

Please no. It even sounds horrible, adding a “2” to the end of the title. Just fix and maintain what we have.

Sure, they can go to a new game...if they leave every version of the old game playable.

    Then yes, I would support.

bruh games don't make new ones if it's a game that goes on forever it's like making a minecraft 2. or a roblox 2. it makes no sense to make a second version of a game where all you do is gens heal loop escape and repeat forever
