Am I wrong to think that pinhead is kind of awful

As in playing him, versing him, design, lore?

In terms of viability, he just seems trash.

No, that's an opinion. There's no right or wrong.

Nope you're not wrong, its too much work for too little gain. I get that people like complicated killers that require mastery but having you bend over backwards just to get a slight advantage in a situation that could just be prevented by just playing normally isn't great.
Many times with Pin-Head my thought process is if I don't use my power and just chase normally I'll be more successful than trying to use my power that they can break, walls can break, and even I myself can break. Sure you can say that when chain hunt happens he gets more powerful but that's not really something the killer can control and that survivors have 100% control over.

He seems significantly harder than most killers, but in reality when it comes to effectiveness he seems worse than the clown.
2 -
Naw im sure people who think hes op are wrong.
3 -
He seems significantly harder to play than most killers but in reality hes just a worst clown most of the time.

Pinhead is definitely awful. He goes around, torturing people just because they solved his puzzle box.

Problems with Pin-Head:
If my power is meant to be used in chase to slow a survivor down then why doesn't it actively apply a hindered effect vs just stopping sprinting.
If my power is meant to be used in loops why does me running into my own chains while trying to circle the loop break them.
My power is harder to hit than death-slinger yet I don't get any kind of injure or deep wound for my hits.
With the amount of control survivors have over my box, my own killer item, why cant I at least see the box when within a short range of it(not small spark effects)
If my power is supposed to help loops why can chained survivors still drop pallets or vault windows, meanwhile doctor prevents these actions outright.
There are plenty more but the biggest gripe I have is if this killer is all about precision in power placement why is it that survivors actively block me being able to place my portal where I want it because of their collision and the idea that it can't spawn directly on them.
4 -
Pinheads such a disappointment because everything about him is so cool.
1 -
Yeah he needs a QOL buff tbh, you shouldn't have to work so hard for so little to no reward sometimes at all. He is meant to stop loops at pallets and such if you are good with the possessed chains
2 -
LOL he is one the top 5 killers in this game easily. A decent pinhead is a solo q destroyer. But when a decent pinhead goes up against a competent SWF he struggles like most. I honesty would say he is like hag a strong solo Q destroyer, but a decent SWF makes the game hard for him.
1 -
I mean I disagree but it's not wrong to have that opinion, or any opinion related to DBD at all.
0 -
he has very little gen pressure ability from his base power and even with his chains they arent too hard to dodge or to out menuever anyways, his power already hard to find without seeing or hearing a survivor thus needing to do a chase to even have some sort of chance
0 -
Oh, I am seeing quite a few really good Pin Heads myself. Perhaps a bit more practice with him
1 -
Lmao what hes no where near huntress nurse current spirit blight or hag hell hes worse then most of the bottom of the barrel killers aside from pig
1 -
except for pinhead DOES have control over the box and chain hunt, it is a huge part of his skill curve
1 -
naw just grab the box, then when hes in a chase or picking a survivor up just complete it
1 -
I think, in a similar vein to nurse - he's got a steep learning curve
You need to learn how to control the chains, the best time, place and way to use the chains during chase as well as learn the box spawning logic + the best time to teleport or the best time to drop chase and pester the box holder
He has one of the best (if not the best) 1 v 4 mechanic in the game, Chain hunts are an extremely powerful slowdown tool and the summoned chains do a lot to mitigate many pallet loops.
Many people thought Blight was weak on release and some time after, now most people think he's S tier.
1 -
The disparity between how efficient a good nurse and a good pinhead are going to perform against a good team of survivors is massive.
0 -
My point wasn't that Pinhead is as strong as Nurse
My point is that he's got a learning curve in a similar vein to nurse. You can't just pick him up and play him to his full potential

His anti-loop is garbage, but the chain hunt power is super strong, however you need hoarder and franklins or at least one of those or range addons to interrupt survivor who is solving the box. However on big maps, no matter what perks or addons you have, you mostlikely won't catch up to the survivor with the box if its too far away and that happens quite often.
So small map + hoarder + franklins + solve time increase addon is the best you can do with him, however his chase power is just bad so you just play for that 1v4 and that basically let's you win the game if you can do it over and over again.
Also engineer's fang together with the other stuff makes him really good both in chase and 1v4, without that addon however you won't do much against good survivors chase-wise. Iridescent box addon has basically the same impact but it add's even more to his 1v4 instead of 1v1.

I agree that he is worse than hag, without his special build. AKA engineer fang, with hoarder and franklin's. That build is the best non gen slowdown in the game. And it is due to the fact that a good pinhead will be able to know if someone picks the box, and gets a quick injure and chases them down. And boom there you have it, he is able to easily activate the box and place pressure. And with engineer fang decent pinhead users can injure a team in a matter of seconds. So yeah this build makes pinhead the 4th strongest killer in my opinion. But even then he is still at the top without the build, even the kill-rate stats showed pinhead was at the top of the food chain, but I guess he's trash.

Theirs no incentive to learn it either.
1 -
Oh I guess I should have specified without engineers fang hes dogshit
1 -
The blight comment stands out because during release he wasn't all that great for a few reasons and then he got buffed over time. Nobody can say that his low pov was good at the time.
1 -
Pinhead is one of the worst killers on his own, but the lament configuration carries him a lot harder than I originally anticipated.
0 -
Yeah those things 100% helped
the overall concept of his power remained the same though, for the most part.

Pinboy is quite good if you master box spawn predictions and also good on smaller maps. He gets destroyed on indoor maps and large maps against survivors with half a brain that don't run him to the box.
I would say he is quite balanced... sadly that doesn't mean anything in this game and it all comes down to how "unfun" he is for the SURVIVORS experience. If they deem him "boring" and can't 1 man loop him for 20 gens straight then get ready for nerfs.

Keep practicing :) it took me a while but I think he is amazing now. My only complaint is that RNG can mess ya up sometimes which obviously against good survivors can suck. Just because of that he is a solid B tier for me.

I don't think he's awful, but you're less wrong in thinking that than if you thought he was great
0 -
I think he’s underrated and you just need to put in time to learn him. I’m guessing you don’t play much survivor OP, because the amount of really good Pinheads you see in the wild, would inspire you to keep at it. He kicks ass and creates a lot of chaos. Like Dwight, he comes with the best pre-loaded perks. They’re all good IMO. Not like a Laurie with the best survivor perk in the game (DS) and probably now the worst two (OOO & Sole Survivor). Have you tried the hoarder build with Pinhead? That’s his meta now and he gets great value from it.

Half his kit (his chain summon) is niche to the point of uselessness. About the only purpose I've found for it is scouting. By the time I've connected, I've lost as much time as I've gained, and it can be tricky to land as is.
However, the entire 'box' mechanic is well done - and opens some interesting styles/perk combos.
His summons need to be more rewarding when you connect, and he'd be a good 'A' to 'B' tier, which is a fine place to be.

What?
No, an opinion can be wrong.
'The sky is green' is a wrong opinion.
An opinion can also be wrong if it's not supported by evidence, or at the very least, a bad opinion.
1 -
No, that's a statement of fact, just like OP's claim is.
An opinion would be "orange juice tastes bad". It's a matter of personal preference. "The sky is green" is not an opinion, it's a statement of fact that can be easily verified to be wrong. Likewise, "this killer is bad" is not an opinion, it is a statement of fact.
1 -
Opinion. (noun). A view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
You can have an opinion regarding things that are factual. For example, 'the Moon Landing was a hoax!' is an opinion; in this case, that 'facts' as we know it are incorrect. 'The sky is green' is also an opinion.
Yes, it can also be qualitative (as pertaining to the deliciousness of a certain juice) but that is not the extent of it's definition.

I would argue he is fairly strong, but perhaps for the wrong reasons. His passive is what makes him pretty dangerous, his chase potential on the other hand isn't as effective. And it is easier for swf survivors to deal with the box than solo survivors, since they can communicate who goes for the box.
1 -
Well, he really feels like Freddy, in a way that he has really good 4v1 but a mediocre 1v1. The thing is, 4v1 is far more important than 1v1, so by rule, Pinhead ends up being better than most of the cast. He is still not viable, because only Nurse and Blight are, but he is definitely not terrible.

He's not awefull. Not amazing by any means but really not bad.
The trick is realising his real power is the box and not his harpoon chain thing.
1 -
He sucks if he's not consistently getting his Chain Hunts.
They don't do anything in a chase, but they slow down gens massively.
