What's the point of a broken key
The broken key's only purpose is to be salt in the wound when your the last survivor wanting to escape through hatch you find it and realize it's a broken key I feel like there should be a visual difference between the broken key and the other keys.

The point is that you use it for the key-addons. It appears in chests so that when you escape, it gets added to your inventory.

Can be useful with addons and creats the imaginative threat of key escapes.
Its also a good way for getting tunneled.

You should use it with the Blood Amber addon to see the killer's aura to see its strength. It's really useful in a chase when you have lost LOS on the killer. Alternatively, use the Gold Teken for a free "Bond".
Unfortunately you will get Mori'd for bringing in a key so that's a shame.

I'm praying it gets reworked one day, items shouldn't be completely useless without add-ons

I always wondered: is the broken key the key (hah!) to the third way to escape the trial

From the blood web, I can see its situational utility. As to why they continue to let this thing spaw in-game, I have no idea because it is beyond useless when you pull it out of a chest.

The Broken Key is used for add-ons without the threat of losing the better keys that you'd typically want to save for a planned hatch escape. (I save those for escape challenges.) Also, as for them spawning in the blood web, I have noticed that that the broken key almost never spawns in a prestige 3 blood web, which is a shame as I kind of prefer the broken key over the others. It is great for getting the killer to chase you. It was part of a build I used to keep the killer focused on me and leave my team alone, while also avoiding him. Was a fun build till changes and nerfs ruined it.
On the subject of reworking it...I always believed that the Keys should be replaced as a Key Ring. Useless on their own, but quite useful with add-ons. The key itself should be an iridescent add-on, and only that.

Current state broken key isn't recommended because it shares the same model with keys that bring a lot of anger to killer players, would recommend to just ignore them as a survivor until the update comes out then use them at will with the other key addons because hatch being nerfed removes a lot of key stress from the killer so there is no worry in bringing it anymore since it doesn't draw as much / any unwanted strength in perks or addons from the killer.

If none of the survivors have items in the lobby you slap on a broken key. It's there to bait killer into wasting a perk slot for Franklins.

That key is the most useless thing in the game. They might as well makes keys have another ability so that key can be used for something.

I think there is a vsiual difference... the icon is literally just half of a key, where the other icons look like a regular key

Very good in Solo Q, actually. First thing it’ll draw the killers attention to you. You can distract them more, or force them to run Franklin’s. If they bully you everyone else is doing objectives. Best thing is you can see the aura of others. With that purple ring you can always follow, and double up on gens with an obsession. Tokens lets you see the auras of everyone around you. If they’re hurt you can heal them. Use Ace’s Open Handed or w/e the move he has to boost aura reading, and/or Streetwise. With Blood Amber you can mind game a killer as they obsess over the fact you have a key. I only use Amber with a Red keys though since it’s 30 seconds, and with Prayer Beads it’s 45 seconds.
I don’t think keys are unfair if a solo player uses them. They need to see auras, or ditch a lousy team. Keys are only bad when the SWFs use them. They already coordinate, and now if merely ONE is eliminated they can all bail?? 😤
