If the new survey shows majority dislike.....

If the new survey shows majority dislike for SBMM, will the devs listen?

Not the least bit surprised. I’m sure they made up their minds to keep it regardless of what the community says. There is a portion of us that do not frequent the forums, but common sense would say they most likely would say “no” if they took the survey. I imagine the devs spent a lot of time and resources into SBMM and they’re not about to throw it all away. It’s unfortunate for us who don’t care for it.

Common sense would say not to assume things like that.

I just hopped into the game and there's a link to the survey right there.

Unless the poll is 90% in favour of deleting sbmm, then its staying. Imagine backing around 12% 😅

Key phrase “most likely.” Didn’t say definitely, absolutely, or positively- just plain “most likely.” I know there is room for it to be quite the opposite so that’s why I phrased it that way.

No please, if they find out that most of the community dislikes mmr either pig or billy will get nerfed.

There are tons of things which are disliked by overall the entire community, so I doubt. Just look at the Billy fiasco.

Yes, I saw your "key phrase". It's still a mistake to assume anything either way. Social media easily results in an echo chamber, especially since people who are enjoying the game tend to spend more time actually playing it than complaining about it.

I'm not too sure as many players would vote dislike as people here think they would. On just the forums and related sites, yeah, but majority of players are casual and don't bother with this forum or the subreddit etc.

I politely disagree with you. Have a good day/evening.

Oh, yes, they will totally listen to the feedback of the majority. Don't worry about it at all.

Half of their questions about SBMM are 'Do you even know what SBMM is?'. Clearly hinting that they just assume people keep referencing grades because they don't know what they do. The reason people keep referencing grades is because it gauges how active you are and if you're pipping a lot them clearly you're doing something right at some point, being carried or just playing so much that you eventually rise. People reference grades for the same reason people reference worn out clothes on homeless people being a sign you're homeless. It doesn't mean you're homeless but chances are if you're wearing dirty clothes that haven't been washed in ages that're ripped and tattered... You're probably homeless.

    I don't think it will.

SBMM is miles...miles better than what we had before. I've seen both faster queues, and mostly well matched games (smurfing SWFs aside). It needs a few tweaks and a bit more nuance, but it's gigantic strides in the right direction.

    Why don't you like it?

Why was the old system (for most of which killers had almost no matchmaking protection) better?

I'm not even sure there is a mayority dislike towards mmr. I personally know i prefer it to the old system.

Don't forget that these forums are a small minority of the community.

Even if everyone here agreed on something it would be a fraction of a percent of the whole community.

If you spend a lot of time here it's hard to grasp but something heavilly disliked here is not guaranteed to be heavilly disliked throughout the community.

OP, if the survey shows the majority prefers SBMM, will you and everyone else who doesn't like it acknowledge and accept that you're in the minority?

Because the devs never listen to players?

Not saying it's likely they'll change the sbmm, because it probably isn't, it's the type of more fundamental change that they wouldn't just want to revert, sadly. But it's not like they never listen to players.

It's a simple question. Would you accept the results of the survey, even if they're not what you wanted/expected?

    Short answer: Probably not.

    Long answer:

You dont know if the majority will not like it. The playerbase is far bigger than the number of Forum Warriors who complain about SBMM with at least 1 thread per day per person.

But they might tweak SBMM, if they think it needs tweaking. However, I can guarantee you that they will never go back to Rank-based Matchmaking, Ranks are gone and will never be used for Matchmaking again. They dont change a system, remove Ranks and introduce Grades (so that players get used to not having Ranks anymore), just to bring it back at some point.

And, why should they? SBMM, despite far from being perfect, is better than Ranks.

In the end, SBMM being focussed on Kills and escapes even makes sense - you can boil it down to "Good Survivors escape often, good Killers get more Kills". And thats it. Obviously it would be nice to include all factors, but it is impossible in DBD.

Chase Length? How do you want to measure it? E.g. a person who runs a Spirit around for 1 minute is better than someone who runs a Trapper around for 1 minute. So you would make it dependant on the Killer.

Then, someone who uses 2 Pallets in a Chase is probably better than someone who uses 4 Pallets during the same time. But this is not even true, because then we have to check which Map or which Pallets are used.

Survivor A uses 2 Pallets on Shelter Woods, Survivor B uses 4 Pallets on Hawkins. The 4 Pallets probably dont even matter, since Hawkins has so many, mainly unsafe, Pallets. But the 2 Pallets on Shelter Woods can be game-changing.

And even if we have two Survivors who have the same Chase Time while using the same amount of Pallets, their Skill can be different. Survivor A uses the Shack Pallet, Survivor B combines an unsafe Pallet with an unsafe Window. How on earth do you want to make sure that the game knows that Survivor B was more skilled? It is impossible.

Every Map and ideally every Pallet would need its own value. Same would go for Perks, the Killer with 4 Meme Perks should be considered more skillful than the Killer who stacks 4 Slowdown-Perks. Then there are Add Ons, some Add Ons have so much impact... A Clown with two yellow Add Ons is hugely different from a Clown with Pinky Finger.

It would be impossible to balance everything to an efficient MMR-System. DBD will never be completely balanced, so nobody should expect a completely perfect SBMM.

And personally, I think the current system works better. My Killer games are better, I indeed get easier Survivors with Killers I need to practice, which is the main point for me. Like, I can play Nurse and dont have to worry about losing too hard. I dont win every Nurse-game, because I am not good with her, but I dont end up with 1 Hook either. And for Killers, I have some where I get really hard games, but this is fine for me. If I play with Killers I use often, I should expect to go against strong Survivors.

And in fact, those who complain about SBMM did not complain about Ranks because Ranks were just #########. Killers went against Rank 1-Survivors, which, in theory, should mean that they go against the best players. But this was not the case, because the Ranking System has big flaws.

And last but not least - not everyone who thinks they are at "Top MMR EU" or "high MMR" are actually at high MMR. I guess many players just assume that they are at high MMR, because they lost and this must be the only reason why they lost...

They talked about some how making both groups happy, the ones who take the game more seriously and the more casual players. They also had a question in their most recent survey about a ranked and casual mode.

So really, the most I see the feedback regarding SBMM is how high up will the ranked/casual mode be on their priority list
