I disagree, I think people need to be more discerning and less trusting of random sources making absurd (and blatantly false) claims like this.
However, it is the weekend, so maybe they'll address it when they're actually at work, I dunno.

I think the reason a lot of people fell for this is because of BHVR's track record (at least from what I've seen commented) so for them it was hard not to believe it, other than that I agree with you.

staying quite over false allegations leads people to believe they are true. I'm not saying they need to say something right this very moment because its the weekend and the devs deserve to have time off with their families. Id rather be kept in the dark then force crunch on a dev staff. that doesn't change that it took the community doing quite a bit of in-depth research to figure out if this had any validity. I saw the nft news on multiple reputable news sites. I didn't even learn about it through dbd twitter or the forums but from a news article.

Or in this case, it was indeed because of the false information spread here. Not saying banning him was the right thing to do, your suggestion would have been better, but that doesn't mean they are indeed trying to cover up what was posted in this thread. There can be more than one reason for a certain action.

What track record? Seriously, explain what, in the past 5 years, would make this make any sense, particularly the obviously false claim that you can only get the Chatterer via the BBS (Box of BS).
It took me 5 seconds of reading the image claiming that you could only get the Chatterer via the BBS to discern it was fake. If you want people to know it's fake, just tell them yourself.
EDIT: And let's not forget, even if the devs were to say "no, that's fake", the same people would still believe it, because it makes BHVR look bad, therefore it must be true. I'd be willing to put down money "BHVR bad" is the main reason why people believed this.

why is that on me though? I don't work for BHVR I'm just a consumer just like you. I think my Public Relations Professors would skin me alive like Pinhead if I told them the answer to bad publicity is to do nothing about it and let my consumer base figure out if the claims are true. In my own experience I just saw the headline article multiple times through different news sources said "huh thats weird" and moved on like most people do when mass consuming news.

Don't pretend that BHVR hasn't made any questionable actions in the past year or so, from locking the RE sets without warning an hour after they released because people were only buying the legs and torso pieces, to a certain developer reacting condescendingly to someone asking about colourblind options (which even that prompted people to react negatively and caused colourblind options to be rushed), to a Binding of Kin's release being completely bugged but gets released regardless of the PTB feedback, to the new HUD that was heavily criticised by PTB feedback but got released anyway without any changes (until a couple of hotfixes later), to console optimisation being ignored for over 2 years (which got worse with the RE patch) and finally addressed after someone dedicates themselves to a thread regarding optimisation which now has over 100 pages and to them basically lying about how the new SBMM system works. But the game continues to get bugs every patch.
Is it any wonder why people might've fallen for this? Seriously, have a good look at BHVR's past actions and tell me you have a hard time understanding why people have fallen for this.

Why is it on BHVR? I can understand why they'd want to do it, but it's not on them to dispel every obviously fake rumor just because people might believe it. Otherwise, that's all they'd be doing.
Again, five seconds of reading was all it took to discern this is 100% fake. Even if you didn't already know the Chatterer was purchasable via the in-game store, it'd take you maybe a minute to open the in-game store and check.

because its is about BHVR as a company. That's like saying why would celebrities' release statements on false sexual assault rumours. They are under no obligation sure, but I guarantee you its the right move to make. its basic Public Relations when you're a notable company or person. its why they even have different laws on slander and libel because they are considered public entities. They have to play a different game then you and me when it comes to protecting their image.

I'm not comparing, I'm trying to help you to understand that because of their past actions (like the ones I listed in that paragraph), it's understandable why people would believe that article immediately; It's hard to have faith in BHVR basically.

And I'm sure they'll sue the pants off this entity spreading false information (assuming they're even a "real" entity, and not just a website hosted in some random country where such laws don't apply), when they have a chance to meet with their attorneys during business hours. I still don't think it's on them to dispel every single rumor in the universe that might involve them. Sometimes, people just need to use common sense.

Like I said (and you essentially confirmed), "BHVR bad" is probably the main reason why people bought this hook, line, and sinker. And even if BHVR were to come out right now and say "this is fake", a lot of those people would still believe it, because it makes BHVR look bad.

To be honest I don't blame them (and this goes back to the whole faith thing) because of their past actions.
While I agree with you that it's fake, I can definitely see why people would have a harder time believing that.

The chatterer part only appears on their website, while the egmnow article doesn't have it. That makes it difficult for people for figuring out the information beeing fake than you think. Not everybody will take a close look on the website.
But I'm with you. Normally you don't comment false news/leaks/rumours.Not just Behaviour, I rarely see that happening with other companies as well. The only thing, which might be differently is here, that it might be even more, a scam targeting DbD players. And by my experience in cases like these companies tend to make a vage warning statement.
Still it's the weekend. Stuff takes time. Especially with something like this. The fact this is fake is spreading quite fast as well within the community. And it's still possible that it's only a fake.

NFTs for physical assets like books are actually a thing. They are first and foremost meant to be a proof of ownership afterall.
Sorry, but looking at the reactions, how the information spread, it's not that obviously fake as you think. Maybe for you, for me etc. But not for everybody and the majority of people beeing confronted with information.

Twenty years ago, when I was young and the internet was new, there was a dorky hobby some people had where you could join a mailing list and "claim" things from fandom that you liked. You didn't have to pay money -- you just had to be the first person to say, "I want to claim Xena's war cry," and then the moderator of the list would duly make a note that you had claimed Xena's war cry and it was yours. You didn't actually get anything, and, twenty minutes later, you forgot you ever participated.

Idk what is true and what isn't but I will say this: Saying NFTs or crypto in general are bad for the environment is ######### stupid when you compare their impact to just about every other industry on the planet and the fact that the hardware used is being done on a smaller scale by regular consumers anyways. Every gamer is bad for the environment by that logic and should be stopped. The hardware is power intensive and the gear being used to create NFTs is the same ######### on a bigger scale. The "environmental impact" is coming from electricity usage which isn't a problem with the industry. There is a thing called renewable energy and mining operations that rely on that, are clean. They are not impacting anything environmental whatsoever in that regard. Whereas one that is not in an area that relies on renewable energy sources is going to leave a carbon footprint... Just like everyone and everything else in the area. What NFT's should be criticized for is being yet another contributor for semiconductor shortages since places that can manufacture them are very limited. Combine with a pandemic and logistic issues that were already a time bomb then you got shortages impacting numerous industries and that's not even considering the consumer market.
tl;dr: If you're gonna hate NFT's at least do it for the right reason. Being yet another strain on production. Not "burning down the Amazon".

Pretty much. In countries that rely mostly on renewable sources for household consumption, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the people who do those things are often not in such countries.
However, as someone else also said, whole industries are far more polluting than this. That's not to say we should ignore either one, but to put things in perspective.
