Only Two Ways to Play Killer Right Now?
There's always been many ways to enjoy Dead by Daylight, though ever since Kill Based Matchmaking has been introduced, there seems to be a very clear pattern in how most Killer mains view and thus play the game:
- Camping everything and anything in order to secure whatever few Kills one can. And I don't mean patrolling or baiting Survivors closer to get yourself into another chase, I mean not leaving the hooked Survivor unless you get to trade hooks. Since the game is supposed to be balanced around 2 escapes, something most Killers view as a loss, this is the most consistent way to "win".
- Coming to terms with the fact that without the usage of dirty tactics one doesn't stand a chance, at least not consistently, given the Killer/Item/SWF/RNG disparity, so you might as well do and run whatever, because focusing on really, and I mean really, honing your skills doesn't matter, because there's no real reward. That doesn't mean there isn't fun in landing some sick hatchets or mind-games and getting better at doing so, but the incentive to do so has to come from within, unlike in other games or activities where if you get better, you are rewarded with generally better outcomes.
No matter how I look at this, the system is incredibly flawed. Either you play in a way that removes as much skill as possible from both sides, or you accept that your skill doesn't translate into a positive outcome - This is true for both Killer and Survivor.
I guess the thing I want to ask is - Are you having fun playing the game? And more importantly, are you having fun because you're playing the game the way it's meant to be played, or because you've set your own rules and challenges in order to entertain yourself? And if you play Survivor, especially SoloQ, would you say that the usage of "unfun" tactics has increased, or is it mere confirmation bias, or perhaps bad luck some people are having?

eh the game is still fun for the most part
although ever since what they said about survivor mmr my teammates have been intentionally leaving me behind more and more

I play both sides 50/50 and still am having fun after just over 4200 hours in game. I haven't played as much the past 2 weeks BUT that is because I have been playing a lot of New World since it launched (13 days ago).

In my case, it's maybe a combination of the two? I understand that my skill doesn't really translate to better results, it just translates to me being frustrated when I find myself facing the game's bullshit. So whenever I find that bullshit, I shut my brain off, open a youtube video and proceed to play like a bot. I tunnel the first survivor I hook, then I proceed to run circles around the nearest obstacle. They either all die trying to protect that survivor, or they all escape, at that point it doesn't' matter to me.
This isn't fun to me. I'd prefer a game that was engaging where it was a proper, my skill vs their skill type of thing. But that's not what we have. Occasionally though, I do get more chill matches where gens don't fly instantly, I do my best to give these survivors more chances and more chases, at least I get to use my power, try fancy stuff and actually play the videogame.

I don't camp anything or anyone......unless that said player really....REALLLY pissed me off and I want to see them die....I don't camp. I play normally and my average is 3k 1E unless it's a SWF team then I just go to my own little corner and let them win....but I also have seen being left behind by the other survivors.

Are you having fun playing the game?
Yeah.
And more importantly, are you having fun because you're playing the game the way it's meant to be player, or because you've set your own rules and challenges in order to entertain yourself?
The latter.
And if you play Survivor, especially SoloQ, would you say that the usage of "unfun" tactics has increased, or is it mere confirmation bias, or perhaps bad luck some people are having?
Wouldn't say i play enough Survivor to answer this honestly, but if you want my answer anyway: Haven't felt much of a difference myself.

I’ve had much less fun when MMR came out. Whether it’s due to the system itself or lack of interesting content idk

Im getting around 7-10 hooks per game and barely getting 2k. Playing cleanly doesn't work unless you are playing against poor players. Im even dominating early match and still only getting 2k at best.

It's fun for survivors and my experience as survivor greatly improved but also it revealed that killers are meh and more like a toy in survivors hands. Because either u win or lose it's all in survivor hands. If they play as a team it's mostly one-sided game, if they jerk around it discourages me to play the game.

Whats terrible about the new sbmm is they were working on this for how long? I hope it doesnt take them 4 years to fix it.

As killer my games have been mostly sweat fest matches which is exhausting.
my survivor games haven't changed much, my teammates are pretty good.

Yeah, I've improved as a survivor a lot playing against better killers, as killer though, its a lot less fun.

I do wonder if that'll ever happen, given how content Patrick seemed with the ol': "Sometimes you escape and that's fun" mentality.

Doesnt help that it is confirmed to be a better idea to ditch anyone on the hook because as long as you escape you win and even if you unhook them and run the killer for the entire EGC and die to EGC its a loss for you.
