Adept Killer Needs A Complete Rework

I'm not the first to suggest this, but my experiences the last couple of weeks is a good indication as to how badly the Adept achievements for killer are set up.

I've been trying for Adepts, after ignoring them for the longest, and I've been doing them at Rank/Grade 1 for a few weeks. My SBMM rating is presumably pretty high, and after the revelations about some of the mechanics of it, I'm not surprised that, even playing killers I've hardly played and done terribly with previously (Twins, Oni, Blight, etc.), I was still getting really good opponents, likely based on my performance with the killers I do play often/well.

I still managed some outstanding efforts -- 4K's with 10-12 hooks, and still lost out on Merciless for the dumbest of reasons (punished on Malicious for Plague because survivors kept cleansing over and over when they shouldn't have, costing me "healing" points for my playing the killer correctly and them not playing optimally, losing Chaser points as Wraith because presumably survivors "escaped" chases because I cloaked and uncloaked a lot, losing an Adept because I was penalized for being "too close to hooked survivors" when my opponents were constantly hook-bombing before I could move a foot away, etc.). I had a lot of close calls, but it was frustrating to see how I seemingly was losing out due to survivors playing sub-optimally, even while I was playing "correctly".

Right after the Grade reset last night, my first match as The Blight, I ended up with a pretty solid match, but only a 3K, since someone who brought a key ended up reopening the hatch after I'd closed it during the Endgame. I had a solid enough match, but not nearly as good as a couple of 4K's I'd had earlier in my tries (a too-altruistic, more inexperienced lobby helped). No problem -- I figured it was just another try on the books, and some much needed practice.

Yet, I finally got Adept in this match. Because it's so much easier to pip at what's essentially Rank 20 (after the reset) than it was all those matches at essentially Rank 1. I was stunned when it popped up, and even more so to see two Gold emblems with the two Iridescent I scored, but at that Grade/Level/Rank, it was enough apparently.

I frankly didn't deserve the Adept for that match, but considering the matches I felt robbed in prior, it all evened out, I guess? In any case, Adept for killer is poorly designed. To equate it to the survivor Adepts, a 4K under any circumstance should be enough to get the achievement -- when playing less optimally gets it for you over matches you did better in, and when you're penalized for playing your killer correctly, something is definitely off.

For the record, I celebrated getting the Adept Blight by running off a streak of 5 straight survivor Adepts I needed on PS5 right afterwards, needing only 7 matches to get the 5 escapes (and it would have been 6 if not for a blunder at the end of one of them on my part -- and also for the record, I was Rank/Grade 1 before the reset, and presumably would be getting the same SBMM opponents, or something close, to what I was getting on the killer end). The survivor Adepts were almost too easy. I'm not suggesting they should be changed, only comparing the lack of consistency between how to get one over the other.

    It should just be to get a 4K.

    Getting adept is ridiculously easy on some killers, but difficult with others due to the nature of their power.

    Also, by limiting yourself to potentially zero gen defense perks (based on the killer) it can be nigh impossible to get iridescent in that defender category.

    I agree Killer Adepts need changing.

    It should just be 4 any means kills with your 3 unique perks: job done. There shouldn't be any pip requirements, emblems etc.

    They changed the achievement "Where Did They Go?" (all 4 survivors escape via hatch) to escape via the hatch using a key. Sure that was due to a gameplay change, but that was a tough trophy and it's replacement was ridiculously easy.

    I have all the DBD trophies, but still dread doing Killer Adepts.

    I got adept with old freddy I stopped giving a hoot but I agree. Trouble is it would devalue the achievement for those who've already done it so I doubt it'll change. I know one of them was changed but this would be a large number of changes. More crying to tolerate and there's enough already.

    I know I've complained about adept killers. Sadly on this account I'm only missing 5 total adepts (1 killer and 4 survivors). I FINALLY managed to get a plague adept last night, it only required me playing the entire match as an m1 killer without using power a single time. It was rough but the grade reset definitely helped.

    Then I moved on to my last adept killer needed, Hag... I tried multiple different addon combos, 2 games with 4ks, always lost all 3 hex totems somewhere between 4-5 minute mark of the game starting. FINALLY get a good game, good survivors but Game map made my traps easy to set up. 30,300 BPs 3k, last survivor on final hook found hatch before I could... Ruthless Killer... Gold devout for missing a single hook that allowed a survivor to escape.

    I just wonder why merciless can't be achieved with 3 iridescent and 1 gold at a minimum. Some killers get punished a lot harder than others trying to adept, some get punished for using their powers trying to adept. Even with me only missing a single adept killer I'd appreciate a change to the adept killer side. Survivor is just so much easier, the only reason I'm missing 4 survivors is I didn't buy them and just found 3/4th of their perks on the shrine of secrets.

    The Grade reset made a huge difference, and it again illustrates the problem with how Killer Adepts are handled. After the frustrations with a number of ones I'd previously attempted -- The Plague being the most aggravating (because of the penalty to the Malicious Emblem due to survivors cleansing, essentially penalizing you for playing the killer correctly) -- I actually got The Plague Adept today simply because it's easier to double-pip and get Merciless at the rank after things reset yesterday than it was at Rank 1 for me before. The match I got it in (a 4K), I actually got two Iridescent Emblems and two Gold Emblems and still pulled it off -- where I was doing better at Red Rank and coming up short. It makes no sense, but I'll take it regardless, lol.

    I have all achievements and I started it with killer adepts, all in red ranks. I really didn't want it to be changed before, because you know, it was hard to get, so I was happy to have it.

    But after Grade system change, it just easy on everyone after each reset, so 4k might be better and would make more sense, when compared to survivor adept.

    But yeah, adept is just not interesting achievement to have anymore. I don't think there is any hard killer achievement now, so I would like some new. There are still some hard achievements for survivors, well just 2 are hard and few are big grind.

    Evil Incarnate might be only hard achievement left for killers.

    I think some killer challenges might be used as achievements. Well, mainly from early tomes, new tomes are quite easy for killers imo.


    I would like to see achievement something like:

    Basement tree

    Kill all survivors in basement in single Trial.

    That was ######### hard to do.

    Grades still work on the Emblem system, and the Emblem system is what governs whether you get Brutal/Ruthless/Merciless Killer, and so they're still relevant to Adept achievements.

    I said ages ago, that it is not fair, that Survivors can hide all match, do nothing and take hatch whereas the killer has to double-pip (which is grade-dependent and even more difficult with some killers like Plague).

    My suggestion for both adepts is that you need to get a pip + escape (survivor)/kill 3 people (killer). I think that's fair.

    Hmm, what about get 4 kills for killer and escape for survivor, but hatch doesn't count?

    There would still be the Blendette and slugger/camper problem. by getting a pip they have to do.... something.

    Well, you know what is best way to get Merciless against most survivors?

    Tunnel someone asap, then toy with the rest.

    So you have either free adept for tunnel, or camp. It doesn't really matter. It used to, when you had to finish adept in red ranks, then even tunnel was hard to do on some killers, but after resets? It's just not true anymore, adept is easy now.


    Blendette wouldn't work that well without hatch possible.
