Why are M2 fakes not hated as much as Spirit's stand still mind games?
I never really understood the lack of ire for stand still mind games with Spirit when it's basically tantamount to M2 fakes with other killers (Demo, Deathslinger, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, etc.) in terms of "outplaying" based on no skill.
Personally I play Spirit and while I'm not a comp player or anything who can always tell based on animation if she's actually phasing or not, common sense normally makes it obvious when she is and isn't phasing and I don't mind it nearly as much as M2 fakes.
M2 fakes on the other hand are basically free zoning for no effort, especially with a killer like Deathslinger where there is no realistic reaction time to ADS and then being shot.

I feel the only people who complain about Spirit's stand still mind game are the ones who run into her face instead of breaking LOS and getting distance of her. 🤡

it costs time and/or movement speed for all of them. spirit just stands still at a pallet.
(also, wraith should probably on that list, since the Bing bong is the most grievous offender for m1 fakes)
Honestly, I don't have a problem, but that's how I see it.

^ most good survs i run into on spirit just start walking away if i stand still and uninjured/iron will, otherwise beeline to the next loop
potatoes that get grabbed off the pallet are the ones that tend to kill themselves on hook or dc afterwards, sometimes they deal with it though

All those fake m2 have a cost most of those cost is distance. The spirit stand still mind game most of the time is the survivor not knowing ehat to do because they dont know her cd or cant do a read to save their life

M2 fakes are less hated than spirit stand still mind game BECAUSE we can see the action veing cancelled, as for spirit stand still trick, there is no way to know if she's faking it or not, idle animation stays the same

Honestly. Generally I think stand still mind games are much weaker than M2 fakes considering there's actually a method to pretty much always tell if a Spirit is phasing or not, even disregarding the upcoming changes regarding her phasing.
The thing is though, survivors also lose distance as well or they put themselves at risk. You run in a (relatively) straight line? You're going to get hit with an M2 as they're carrying it. You zig zag trying to dodge a potential M2? You lose distance and you get M1'd.
Spirit's stand still mind games is actually generally less effective than M2 fakes considering what I said in this response as well as above to Mercês.
Personally I sometimes bait the Spirit to try and swing at me by walking somewhat close to her if I think she's faking it. Not close enough to get hit (and if there's a resource nearby to protect me). Normally most Spirits don't bother standing still twice in a row and they start phasing the next time they're still at a pallet or something

That's not true. Her animation resets every time she begins to phase and it's pretty much a fool proof trick. It's just not a widely popularised method but it's been known for an extremely long time and is pretty widespread in comp.
Regardless if you're a type of person who thinks that comp should be some sort of measurement or not, the reality is that it exists and in general stand still mind games are less powerful than M2 fakes

fair point, I suppose.
I mean, if the person's scaring you with unpredictability, I think that's more fun, personally.

Lets take a couple killer m2 for example.
Ph loss distance for a fake m2 it take him 1,5 or 2 sec before he can use his power if he decide to fake it it take another 1,5 or 2 sec before he can M1 this work only if a window is close he cant do that if the survivir run in a straight line.
Deathslinger he lose distance if he decide to fake its better for him to quicksope that why they nerf him in the next patch. Plus you dont outplay a deathslinger he miss.
The last example i will say its demo faking his power work specially if the survivor run in a straight line and at a pallet he dont lose distance but he wont gain any distance either.
I use those example because those are the killer that gain the more with a fake exept deathslinger all the other killer are not worth a fake m2 because they lose to much. The survivor dont need to zig zag that much just losing the LoS should be enough to beat any fake

i have no strong opinion on spirit mind game but m2 fakes are not even that good or usefull (except for Demo)

I hate M2 fakes as much as spirits stand still mindgame! M2 fakes are okay as long as the killer can’t just M1 you right after but that’s what most killers can do.

I feel like the people grandstanding for it don't know that you can literally just watch them do that and then catch them straight away. Good luck outrunning iri add on spirit and doing that. I feel like people keep forgetting that spirit isn't a slow killer and can easily just catch up. I feel like people forget that tracking on her is easy unless the person has iron will. Even then, typically not that hard. But what do ik, I only played spirit over a two year span.

Does breaking LOS do anything in that same situation on a killer that loses sight by herself the moment she hits m2?
What are you going to so? How much distance are you going to make walking away from a killer that moves 176%?
That's why I dont get people that think she's going to be f tier after her upcoming change.
1 -
because wraith's shtick is also 'move fast' but without the cooldown/without blinding himself and he's not a high-end killer (but is getting nerfed anyway because he dunks on low-end survivors like no tomorrow)
what hope do you have when people can hear where you are/when you're phasing in a long loop? people trying to play short loops vs spirit are already kind of potato but there's way better killers for that that you have basically no recourse against getting hit by
people also forget that you're not a waifu magnet until you're injured even without iron will, getting that first hit on a 110% will be very interesting once she loses her capacity to ambush people
but generally talking about how a killer plays in general and countering with 'but some of their most powerful addons!' is a very weak argument
what about 4x commodius bnps with two prove thyselves that power the gates before 'headphones = instant 4k even vs iron will gg' spirit can get two hooks? what about just running into a full iron will squad (vs mother-daughter this is hell on earth)? what about not going what about X specific massively dice-loaded scenario and using that to judge the killer as a whole, that'd be nice

Have you not read the patch notes? Deathslinger is literally being nerfed for this reason. Pyramid Head already got his M2 fake nerfed as well.
2 -
Ah yes make distance while she's still not in phase so she sees you running away and still phases to catch up 🤡. Even as a killer main I can see how what you just said makes no sense.

People still complain about faking m2, I don't know what you've been smoking.

But at most loops unless the pallet is incredibly safe and blocks the killer from advancing any further, spirit will catch you. Breaking line of sight and getting distance will not help you at all in most cases, especially if spirit has really good add-ons.

Because when those killers fake their powers you can still see them use it and you're given a chance, not much you can do but predict, but still way more fair than spirit mindgames considering she gives no information whatsoever.

If youre 'not' able to out run her 176 speed. Question about your skill ! ! !

I see tons of survivors complain about it. RIP Deathslinger, you will be missed, but never forgotten.

Deathslinger was one of the most obnoxious killers. Every killer had a cost to faking the M2. In other words they actually mind gamed. That's why Spirit is hated. Her stand still "mind game" was utter bullshit.

What's the problem with faking M2s? That's like saying faking a window vault should be hated. It's just a tactic.

What do you mean.....I'm just letting the survivors know its dinner time.

It is not the "standing still" thing alone that bothers the players. It is that you could not tell if she is using her power.
Demogorgon makes noise and opens its head. Slinger aims at you and gives an audio que. Pyramide Head slammes his knife into the ground. Nemesis pulls out the tentacle. All have clear tells when you are using their power making them not a 50/50 coin flip but rather an educated guess.
Also all of those characters lose speed when they are using their ability and finaly when they mess up the survivor gains a huge advantage. Death Slinger misses? To bad he is now 110% speed and has to reload, enough time to get to cover. Pyramide Head missed? To bad he now has a recovery animation during which he stands still. Demo misses? He is now in Nebaska and searching for his next victim.
Spirit messes up the stand still? Well...she just stood there. Now she still has her power and can chase.
