I just got back after a lengthy break too.
Seems BHVR has bungled another update (not surprisingly).

I don't know what the problem is either.
Involvement in NFTs, internal confusion in the company around NFTs, game crashing bugs around boon perks, the implementation of a kill switch they refuse to use, and an EAC issue that's making the game literally unplayable. Sure, that last one is a Steam issue, but the timing is still hilarious enough that I wanted to include it.
Seems like they did a pretty good job overall today, honestly.

Technically they didn't use NFTs, they partnered with a company who used the NFT. This was so dbd wouldn't be banned from steam. Bhvr can plausibly deny that dbd doesn't use blockchain tech and doesn't allow exchange of NFTs / crypto so they haven't violated any Steamworks rules.

Dev team knew about it to some degree in order for the NFT to create a steam dlc code for the chapter.

Legally you are correct. But their tweets on Monday revealed they were working with the NFT company for months to give them what they wanted, so morally it's indefensible. Their tweet yesterday about the NFT not existing in DbD itself was very much a CYA ignore the issue legalese tweet and is likely all they can say without angering their new business partner the NFT place.

DBD KBMM: Introducing Campers and Hackers to time-invested players. Exposing a lot of the toxicity that new Players would normally experience to "Veterans" who are usually more vocal.
DBD Supporting NFTs: (NFT's are basically digital "Keys" whose creation and transfer require about 5 gallons of gas for every digital transaction (if using Ethereum), which is not only bad for the environment, but is also a waste of resources and endorses the exploitation of under-developed but resource rich nations, where fuel is cheap).
Boss Protocol, if they are using Ethereum, are planning on using an estimated 50,000 gallons of gas purely to setup a blockchain of Hellraiser PNG's created for them by BHVR using DBD assets.

This is the same company in which a main developer did (presumably) not know that they were working on a colorblind mode...
Also, it just sank in just HOW much of a scam this whole mess is:
The nfts are images of the pinhead model for all we know... for an unlock code that isn't even a given.
So, they are really trying to charge $200+ for something that costs less than twenty bucks in the regular store AND can be easily obtained through blender (which is free) and similar programs.

This is clearly a Butterball skin. Pretty sure we won't be able to buy it in game.
And it's well specified that some drops will be available only for those holding the Box (paying the NFT).
BHVR said they provided in-game models and blabla the partner does whatever it wants with them. Fact is BHVR didn't release a Butterball model in-game and i'm sure they have a contract with Boss protocol about it. Time will tell.

But here's the thing: the moment they have anything 'nft exclusive' they'd be off steam, because that moment the game would fall under the rule that there mustn't be content in a game that is purchased through nfts, no matter if it is a different company selling that #########

For McLean to state he didn't know about it AND that he's working on a new project altogether NOT as a result of this ordeal is highly suspicious. I don't believe him based on his track record.
For anyone taking anything with the grains of salt, crypto is a digital casino. If you're better at sitting down at an actual casino card table, do that instead of playing crypto. If you can calculate a roulette table, do that instead of playing crypto. If you're better at working hard and saving your money, *do that instead of playing crypto*. Your chances of crypto profit are marginally better than winning the lottery but most people sinply don't sell in time to make their profit worthwhile, and putting your bread and butter into it is probably foolish.
Want a high risk high reward investment? Try a portfolio. Don't want the risk? Try conservative investments. You can actually make dividends and and interest if you place your money into an IRA and you won't risk losing your investment.

Hmm. Depending on how granular Valve is, if those keys are Steam Keys that would technically be an NFT exclusive. Sure, BHVR might say that the license holders are the ones who bundled the Keys with Boss Protocol in their own deal, but what difference does that make in terms of a Steam associated DBD Product being distributed through an NFT?

Also you can buy people with crypto. You know, like the Wayfair furniture thing, but instead of a smol person and a piece of cabinet, you can just buy the smol person with crypto. Way more efficient if you don't need a new cabinet.

Because they are not using any blockchain technology nor are they making the exchange for the crypto/NFT on the dbd product itself. Everything is occurring outside Steamworks, so it does not violate any Steamworks rules

Right. I'm just wondering if Valve considered NFT's gaining traction like lootboxes, and companies and games hosted on steam making deals with 3rd parties to essentially sell NFT bundles outside of the steam market while still being able to target the steam customer base.
"DBD partners with Twisted Pictures and Boss Protocol in order to "Play a Game", all NFT holders gain access to all SAW related DBD cosmetics and characters in addition to a Virtual Funko Pop with exclusive artwork and members chat available only on the Boss Protocol forums!"

I mean valve invented the tf2 hat economy and it's micro market so I'm not sure if that would be moot or not.
What valve doesn't like is not capitalizing on their "30%". If the steam keys generated have any purchaser value, and valve gains any compensation for the NFT dlc keys, then valve probably won't care. $.03 still gives valve a penny, if they do in fact charge around 30% for any sale of anything on their platform, right?
It would be ez enough for bhvr to mass produce those dlc keys at an exorbitantly low rate and move those low cost dlc keys into massive net gains with these NFTs. They're basically a subscription service in that regard. Valve might not like it, but they're big shticklers for their own rules.

I don't understand it fully, but in order to keep it all decentralized, many computers and many networks are needed to "scramble" the data that proves the receipt of purchases. Vast amounts of computing power coupled with vast distances between all the mining units costs alot of energy

I mean, there's a difference between a micro market that says: For every transaction, we turn on a lightbulb for 1s.
Versus a micromarket that says: For every transaction, we detonate a Propane Tank.

to 'generate' a unit or even the fraction of it, a computer is doing a specific algoritm/puzzle. but the more it needs and if it's meant to be 'traded' etc the puzzle get's so complex that you need entire 'farms' for just one unit every minute or so.
Which greatly benefits oil and other fossilfuel companies who are making actual money out of it, and some hardware manufacturers because of the thus created shortage of computer hardware which drives the prices up.

The people demand exploded propane tanks. They hardly blink at hat trades anymore. Hats don't unite the world anymore, but exploded propane tanks sure so.
Unfortunately, politics are a big key characteristic in all this; if you are for a one-world economy, then you would be rooting for decentralized currency such as NFTs and crypto. Advancements in technology will eventually make crypto and NFTs far less damaging to the environment. It's not a conspiracy, it's simply intuitive.

they claim there's no unique content locked behind this crap, though... it will likely come... All in all this appears to be a massive moneylaundering scheme by the current right-owners, and bhvr's higher ups are likely in on it.

Oh yeah, I can see the use for NFT/crypto as a currency, but not with the current implementation as you note.
The point is you should probably try to get people who are unaware of what this all is to understand what they are supporting with the current implementation.
