Hatch opening keys useless now?
Hey, i was just trying to do the survivor master challenge where you have to escape through the hatch with a map and its really hard to do the regular way, as i've tried for a bit. so me and my friend said, "whatever, lets just do the key way" and he grabbed a key and we let some randoms know who were okay with it and we tried it and hatch just never spawned. We were like "what?"
We finally figured out it got changed just this patch to where hatch only spawns when one survivor is left (pretty sure, but correct me if i'm wrong). so umm are purple and iridescent keys literally useless now? its not like tons and tons of people were skipping out constantly

Well you can use them for their add-ons that let you see the killers or survivor auras

The killers demanded the hatch nerf, and the devs were quick to deliver. The key still can be used by the last survivor if the killer closes the hatch, and even then if the killer patrols the hatch - you won't be able to escape since there is now an animation of opening the hatch, with progress bar. So we now have an item that is usable only one trial out of ~30, probably the most useless item in the game so far.

Wall hacks.

Balanced. Not useless. Unlike moris which are just for aesthetic purposes.

They're a last ditch item now. When all else fails and the killer wins the hatch race, it gives you a third exit. If you're trying to do the challenge, I suggest equipping Left Behind, which reveals the hatch's location within 32m as long as it's visible.

Quick to deliver? Hasn't it been like a year? Moris were nerfed well before I joined during Resident Evil. And that is when the demand spiked.
Albeit, I kind of agree, the item is pretty useless now. Good for when they find the hatch first despite you knowing where it is, I guess?

"Quick to deliver"
"Quick"
This change was not quick, it took a long, long time for it to happen.

nah ebony/ivorys are still dangerous as hell in the hands of an aware killer, i keep getting tunneled off death hook because they know by the time they catch me bt will be gone and then they can bypass ds by punting me out of the game directly
it's sad that they're effectively relegated to 'be pyramid head: the offering' but both sides stonewall the argument whenever i try to posit ways they could've been changed to be less oppressive but still keep their gameplay functionality so i'm kind of sick of bothering
at any rate, the 2.5 sec or whatever requirement to key out just means you can't do it in killer's face, it's still pretty much a free escape for last survivor unless killer is already on them or majorly outplays them (isn't 2.5 sec basically enough to do it inbetween non-stbfl attack cooldown? yet to be in this situation thus far but..)

A year for BHVR is quick.

Originally I had the idea to make it so that the killer couldn't mori anyone until each survivor had been hooked once. In retrospect that still may not have been enough of a restriction. As they are now, however, I'd rather just run bp offerings...even brown ones. I try to avoid buying them because they cost so much bp.
I am kinda glad they didn't make keys completely useless though. They still have their strong wall hack add-ons and can be used as third escape option during egc. They just aren't a "skip almost half the game" item that moris used to be.
I guess you can tunnel someone off second hook to bypass ds with a mori, but in reality it's still just a waste. Moris are expensive as hell and killing yields less bp than just hooking. They should really just be reworked into the killers' basekit somehow and Bhvr should just get rid of the offerings tbh. Or replace them.

Did you say quick to deliver?
You must mean Mori's were nerfed and keys a year later.

it's a common sentiment to restrict the ebony one like that since it's so far-removed from the effect of the other two ye
and they still have the same aspect of any singular survivor being punted out before lategame is an extreme power swing either way, so in that sense ivory/ebony doesn't make all that much a difference ultimately
i run bp offerings as well + wasn't that big on moris before anyway, but they are apparently removing mori as an offering and making it a basekit bit, i just wonder what it'd've been like if a mori (as effectively a celebration of what the game's genre is about) gave a huge bp infusion to both parties if it'd've been as irritating to lose out on bp (but game lore fluff buh) or if it was like an extreme form of hooking where the survivor had to be revived like in other games but this taking way longer than just unhooking them
ooh well, at least when you don't factor addons (i.e. stuff you bring in from the start as opposed to finding in a chest) keys pretty much are equivalent to moris in that they massively up your chances of getting out as last survivor and that's that

Actually I said a long time ago that a key should only let the key user escape, and that moris should only be useful on survivors who are on death hook. And lo and behold that's pretty much how they work now, so I think the changes are a good thing. 😄

no theyre useful for being toxic to your team. it says "do gens AND die, so i can escape in the hatch, thanks devs"
as soon as the first survivor dies in a trial, theres no incentive to unhook if youre all behind on gens
do gens or die

DS bug that made some killers only a 1 second stun to DS was fixed in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I don't think the hatch spawning before only one survivor remaining was a bug...

"quick to deliver" if 2 years is quick

Might i remind everybody that this hatch nerf is just a stopgap until the.debs manage their vision for earnable mori and keys?
(Independent of believing if they get it done or not.)

Gotta say keys are pretty ######### now the only survivor items worth using are medkits

I wonder how they'll do that.
We know the mori and key/hatch nerfs are just a placeholder for something else right now.
But I just wonder how they are going to change the game so you can earn moris and key escapes.

I think it's just the stigma that you have to use the key to open the hatch. That's not necessarily the case. The keys still have good use through add-ons. The pink key has 3 times the casting time as the green key as well. It's still very useful for reading the survivor and killers exact location right off the top of my head and up to a pretty hefty 32 meters. I would just think of the hatch unlocking ability as a bonus. With keys being nerfed you shouldn't be tunneled out of the game on sight anymore. This means you have more of a chance to make it to endgame if you have one and your team dies. Once the killer closes the hatch, they typically won't be patrolling it anymore. Even if they do the unlock cast time is miniscule and won't matter. It's as easy as keeping an eye on the killer and watching where they're at when they close the hatch, or just bring a hatch offering. It'll still act as a nice little fail-safe, but still require a little more effort to use in that regard. I personally really like the change. I suppose it couldn't hurt to have a secondary base effect though. Maybe something like instantly unlocking chests? Overall I think it's good though.
Moris though? I honestly don't see any killers using them anymore. I myself try to avoid buying them at all costs. Waste of bp and I'd rather just use bp offerings. They're also going to be nerfed again as well...somehow. That niche counterplay it has to ds will be going byebye most likely.

As a predominantly killer player... the hatch/key nerf was too much.
The hatch should still spawn closed when all gens are repaired, regardless of how many survivors are left.

Devs were quick to deliver..You joking, right?

I mean... I could also get behind hatch spawning at 0 gens regardless of survivor count. Actually that's probably what Bhvr should have done and then they wouldn't have had to change the achievements. Either way I still wouldn't call them useless. Finding a broken key in a chest? Yeah sure that's just a paperweight. But finding one of the other keys will open up the opportunity for a third escape in the endgame scenario. I don't know what kind of killers you play against, but me personally I find the hatch and close it before the survivor 80% of the time. Then about 95% of the time I kill or have the opportunity to kill (sometimes I let last person go) while exit gates are powered, but keep in mind I run whispers almost every game. Realistically a key would be your best bet against me (or offer your item😄) since there's no way you'd be able to escape through gates. I'm guessing most of your killers just slug for 4k? In which case I'd say just hide until 3rd bleeds out? That's a whole different discussion though.
