The Official Master Saboteur Thread

Saboteur was nerfed (a huge one) when toolboxes got nerfed overall but this thread is for all those that uses or has used this perk to some degree and the strategies and builds used with it. Im one of if not the only survivor that plays Sabo at red ranks (and rank 5) ie that plays it seriously and i'd like all those that are interested to share they're Saboteur builds and or strategies & experiences with it. Here are some general notes about Saboteur

Old Sabo

  • You could up to 99% hooks
  • Hook repawns were generally 3-4 1/2 minutes

New Sabo

  • Once Saboing cancelling will cancel the Sabo action all together
  • Hook respawns are considerably shorter (even hooks Sabo'ed with toolboxes)
  • There is now a cooldown for the perk

The thing with Sabo builds is that they can be effective and even very effective depending on your map awareness and your team. Sabo builds require that you interact with the other survivors and killer more than normal and also requires foretell, scouting and adapting to situations on the fly which makes it both interesting (fun personally) and hard to play depending again on the team and the situation. Here is my main Sabo build

Builds

w Alex's Toolbox

1)Saboteur/Breakout/Breakdown/Boil Over (my personal main Sabo build)

Purpose/point: To waste as much of the killers time as possible by Saboing nearby hooks of an approaching killer and interacting and "saving survivors" often thanks to Breakout

2) Saboteur/Flip Flop/Unbreakable/Boil Over

Purpose/point: To waste as much of the killers time as generally possible by Saboing and running to a corner, get up with Unbreakable and survey the situation.

3) Saboteur/Tenacity/Flip Flop/Power Struggle

PP: Havent tried this yet but will

4) Saboteur/Breakout/Empathy/Deadhard

PP: A more aggressive style than 1 above as you are more head on with interactions of other survivors

Please share your Sabo builds and or strategies here

Just don't do it, you're basically playing with the killer if you actually waste your time saboing

Lol you cant tell me to NOT do something because im gonna do what i want anyway. I play Sabo builds seriously and have some success with it and i've saved multiple Survivors in games with my smarts and strategies so no im not wasting MY time, Im being creative in a game that can get boring doing the same builds over and over and over doing the same stuff. If i died every game i played and depiped i would agree with you but this is not the case at all

As A killer main i detest Sabo builds. So when people sabo a hook in front of me I will drop the survivor I'm carrying and tunnel the Saboteur to death. That is my sabo strategy

  • Edilibs
    Edilibs Member Posts: 699

You can lose the game that way but i get ya, good Sabo survivors can be tough to deal with even though there are but a few like me out there. Tunneling is not guarunteed to work as the survivor may run Descisive and or the teammates might have BT

The usual: Saboteur, Breakout, Mettle of Man

The fourth perk has always been optional for me, but I sometimes go with Iron Will.

Sounds good. Im assuming you take Alex's Toolbox with the good add-ons to potentially give the killer trouble

I'd use Breakout if I had it, but I kept Sprint Burst so I could dash to the closest hook to the downed person. I don't care much about spiting the killer or even my own life, I just wanted to save my friends. So at one point I even used For the People so I could instant heal if the killer didn't smack me first, which wasn't very often.

Yeah the problem with non Sabo builds is that they will be more ineffective than the committed Sabo ones and by committed i mean you have to have a build built around Saboteur. To be a optimal Sabo player/user you need the perk Saboteur so that when your not using the tool box (Alex's Toolbox with Sabo addons) you can Sabo a hook real quick and move on. Since your gonna be engaging with the killer and survivor(s) often and rarely doing gens, I think Empathy covers this very well so that your on cue with your Sabotagging. Empathy may be a staple for the mastery Sabo player along with Breakout and Saboteur to be more efficient but the last perk can be pretty much whatever.

If your going for annoyance and or wasting the killers time, Breakdown and Boiled Over is good for that, and throw in Unbreakable for good measure. The problem is your more prone to being tunneled hardcore by the killer (if your caught near or at the end) Sabo builds arent very good but you can make them work depending how much foretell you have and your map awareness which has to far exceed the map awareness of the on average player.

Bringing the Sao thread back because i would like to know is or does anyone run Sabo builds in the current meta besides me.

    Build 1: Saboteur/Breakout/Dead Hard/Empathy

    w: Alex's Toolbox and the charges add-ons

    Offering: Petrified Oak

    Build 2

    Saboteur/Breakdown/Boil Over/Flip Flop

w: Alex's Toolbox and the yellow charges addon and the addon that doesn't notify the killer when Saboing a hook with a toolbox

    Offering: Petrified Oak

I think a "commited" Sabo build is legit and very underrrated. You can really waste alot of the killers time and nearly ensure that they lose the majority of the time. The counters to strong or commited Sabo builds and players are

    • Iron Grasp
    • Iron Grasp & Agitation
    • Getting downed or seeing downs near basement
    • Highly dependant on competence of the team as you are more proned to being hardcore tunneled

Whos tryna do this 4 man Sabo swf on ps4? Thats literally the only way i will play swf these days. Discuss?

  • PalletsAndHooks

I just use sabo with red herring these days when I do play sabo. It's not worth the perk slot for its intended use. I use it for boldness bp and creating a noise distraction that I couple with red herring at a given generator.

The thing about sabo is that you can't take a hit at the hook and have enough time to drop hook during the m1 cool down. You'll get hit a second time and go down and the hook doesn't drop. It's exceedingly rare to be able to use sabo proactively. The killer will probably see you and change directions, because it takes about a week to drop that hook with sabo.

If sabo could be used more reactively, it would be worth the perk slot. Alexs toolbox is just a much better overall option, and built to last is a much better perk to go with it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fun perk, but it's only going to work proactively WITH the condition that the killer is headed your way.

Yeah thats what makes it great. The reason why i would have the perk Saboteur is so you can Sabo multiple hooks if/when needed. I never tried Red Herring with it, im gonna look at that today. I feel Empathy is better though if your looking to make saves. Yes people will bring up that a flashlight is more consistent and potentially easier to use and although this may be true Sabo is extremely satisfying when you make good plays with it.

What your talking about when reffering to not being able to finish the Sabo happens but once you get good at Sabo builds this will happen less. You can throw Spine Chill in there instead of Dead Hard or Resilience and that hook will go down then the killer will have no choice but to drop the survivor and then come after you. You REALLY need to have great map awareness with Sabo builds thats why i think those two builds i mentioned are the best for it. The Boil Over/Breakdown build is to waste the killers time if they come to you and after Saboing all nearby hooks they cant hook you because of Boil Over. If they drop you then come back to you to wait for the hook to respawn then you have Flip Flop (considering no one comes to pick you up) with the Boil Over so they cant get you to a hook anyway.

Im very strong with Sabo builds and unique as no one will attempt a hardcore Sabo build because they arent comfortable with it or dont really know it but i do and have had some success with it looking to get more. I tried Built to Last and i dont particularly like it because i would have to take out Dead Hard for it which im not willing to do. In theory its good but just doesnt woork well with Sabo

Honestly, Saboteur should show you auras of hooks every ___ seconds and / or increase the base sabotaging speed. But, it's a slippery slope. With every additional survivor coordinating sabos against you, it can add up over time, especially on an RNG dependent map.

  • PalletsAndHooks
    PalletsAndHooks Member Posts: 989

I forget spine chill and resilience is a thing that works here.

A successful basic attack cool down (without perks) is 3 seconds, and that's how long it takes to drop the hook. In theory, spine chill should allow for enough time, but in my previous experiences, I've never been able to drop the hook between m1 attacks.

I'm gonna give it a try again and see what's what.

    Thanks.

Interesting builds, I'll have to try them. My Sabo build is - Breakout, Flashbang, Saboteur, Sprint Burst . Body block killer to hook, drop flashbang, drop the hook. Now the Killer's choices are lose the survivor, lose the survivor to flashbang, or lose the survivor.

Empathy sabo breakout built to last with Alex toolbox and double sabo speed addons

  • Edilibs
    Edilibs Member Posts: 699

Yeah thats why im looking to do a 4 man swf with it. Doesnt have to be coms (id actually preffer to play swf without it) Alot of the killers time will definetly be wasted and or he or she will lose that game for sure considering people just play good.

Honestly sometimes you dont need Spine Chill or Resilience but your map awareness needs to be better than average. What i would sometimes do is purposely take a hit with the carried/wiggling survivor then Sabo (gotta have Alex's toolbox and charges to make it efficient) the hook then right when they get to me i Dead Hard. Its a very satisfying play! Theres a add-on that gives the killer no notification when Saboing a hook with a toolbox and this is good as well.

Try different things out and please let me know your results! )

Hmm that seems pretty tough to do and may not be consistent but it also seems pretty ok! The reason im against not having Alex's Toolbox is because you need that (toolbox) with Sabo to ensure that you get to do what you want to do at most times. Im assuming Spirint Burst is there so you can get to that hook but even then this strategy (with SB) seems too risky and a comitted Sabo build would be better but if you actually try this build i'd like to know how you did/do with it so let me know ok!

Master Sabo players dont work that way. We're on point at all times so what your saying is not gonna work! No survivor thats a master Sabo is gonna recklessly run behind you. Your hooks are gonna be going down when you least expect it and by time you realize whats going on your too late! If you run into me, hope your good at looping! )

I actually tried this build and dont like it. Double speed add-ons dont stack with Alex's Toolbox as you get the maximum amount of Sabo speed. Your much better off adding charge add-ons or the add-ons that keep the hook Sabo'ed longer or charges and ditch Build to Last. The problem with Build to Last in a Sabo build is that you need to be active 100% of the time and Built to Last surprisingly doesnt synergize with what your doing. Its good if the trial is lasting long but survivors should be slamming those gens so you shouldnt even need to use built to Last but in case the trial goes on longer than normal your most likely by yourself or with another survivor and it will do no good in these situations. Dead Hard is much better than Built to Last on this build, trust me i've been playing Sabo even after it got nerfed and have Mastered it so i know these things! )

Basically I treat having saboteur/a toolbox the same way as having a flashlight - I won't throw the game by chasing after killers while they chase someone else but if I get the chance nearby I'll go for it. I use the yellow addon to not give notifications and take down a hook in the area when I think the survivor is about to go down then head for another hook trying to keep out of sight. Even if you've drained your toolbox standing confidently in front of a hook while the killer approaches will usually get them to drop the survivor if there's no others available too.
