Why Should I Play for the 12 Hook?
If I can 4k with 4 hooks, what really is my incentive to do anything else?
Comments

The mmr to put you into Zubat level squad.
2 -
I find it's more fun to do that but if your goal is to win, going for 12 hook is basically a Death Sentence for your win chances
2 -
More points and pipping, if you care about that.
At the end of the day though I don’t really care about 12 hooks, if I won and the last survivor got one-hooked, oh well.
If I win because nobody cleansed my devour and I only got 5 hooks, oh well. I got to execute everyone which is good enough for me.

Sadly nothing but kills matters so camping someone out of the game is encouraged.

Out of curiosity, where can I find links to the Q&As that went over how MMR works and the forum posts explaining it? I wouldn't know where to begin on this...

I just had a Bubba camp Yun on first hook, because me and another survivor had Kindred so we finish all 5 Gens by the time Yun died on hook. After that he chased me and got stun on purpose to activate Nemesis & Rancor and Mori me on spot.
He had 2k with 7500 BP, consider having 2k also increase his MMR. For me, this is a win on my book, since his skill isnt on par with the kill he deserved
Now if you say more hook/chase increase MMR, camper like this is more encouraged because 4hook 4k would put their MMR lowest for even easier survivors. After that, why should anyone want 12 hooks vs Zubat/Aayrun when you can 4k every match with potatos?

To maybe please The Survivors.
1 -
Cuz it's fun. I do not have the attention span to be around a hook more than five seconds.
0 -
You shouldn't. It makes the game that much more hard and stressful for you, to the delight of the survivors.
1 -
You are implying that the only reason one might not get 12 hooks is because they camp. This is wrong.
You also won't get 12 hooks if:
- survivors fail to promptly unhook, and anyone skips a hook stage.
- a survivor DC's, or suicides on hook.
- someone finds a key and the hatch.
- a survivor hides all game, meaning they die on their first hook whilst their teammates have already died
1 -
... So the lowest mmr bracket?
0 -
It's not about the end goal. It's about the friends we sacrificed along the way.
2 -
The game lasts longer and you get way more BP imo
2 -
You want to be SyperDuperTu3Talented.

I've always tried to chase everyone and sometime risk the game for a first hook on someone, but I think I've come to terms finally that playing this way will result in 1 or 2k's most of the time.

1) You get more BP
2) Getting kills just moves your MMR up so that you get sweatier matches
3) What's the point of getting kills if you aren't actually playing the game
Just because the devs came up with this lazy MMR system, doesn't mean you have to play into it.

If getting kills isn't "playing the game," then what is?
I thought that was the killer's singular objective.
1 -
To get more BP. You know, the only thing that matters in this game?
1 -
Don’t play to get 12 hooks if you’re looking to “win” (for me, winning as killer is at least a 3K).
If you just care about fun or bloodpoints, then try to get as many hooks as possible and run BBQ.
1 -
Blood points.
1 -
Pips and Bp. While u technically *win* by 2-4k it doesn't feels like win if u are around 15k BP and +0/+1 pip.
Because playing around hidden number for me is stupid. I want reward i can see and feel earned.
1 -
Chasing, downing, hooking. You can get kills by doing all of that, too. Standing in one spot and looking at someone on a hook is not playing the game. Not to my mind, anyway. It's only the killer's singular objective because the devs have made it that way with stupid decisions. Besides, it's not really the singular objective. Another objective is to get bloodpoints, and another is to have fun.

Play how you want. You don't even need 4 hooks if you do not want. You could go for a 4 man slug.
2 -
If you had the choice between a 4K and a 2K with a Mori (w/out an offering) to flex on Survivors for how many times you hooked them, what would you choose?

Mmr isnt about skill base, its more of tryhard base. I dont use 4 second chances to escape all the time to the point I only face tunnelers and campers. I used 1 second chance knowing I will have fair play Killers and have fun.
1 -
Think if your going for 4ks with only 4 hooks then your not going to improve that much as a killer.
If your going for multiple hooks then your getting better practice in chases and getting a better understanding of the 1v4 mindset. You shouldn't get too many 12 hook games at high MMR but even getting a 6-7 hook game can give you a lot better experience than 4 hook games. Also you'll get a lot more points going for more hooks.
Your MMR will increase, giving you tougher teams, which will make your matches extremely boring if you just go for 4 hook games (since the best strategy for this is camping with Trickster or Bubba).
I don't mind what you do. I'm just giving a reason for why I don't try to play for only the 4 hook game.

For fun and BP, that's about it. If you don't have fun doing it there's basically no point to.
Winning in the least amount of hooks possible will always be better than going for 12 if you just go for the win only, but it won't necessarily be 4 every time.
1 -
if you camp someone till second state and then tunnel them off the hook, you cannot be surprised that they are pissed at you in end game chat and rightly so, everyone can play scummy it's a choice, doesn't mean you have to
1 -
The thing is, fairly often people get pissed at the Killer even if they played fairly. They run into you? Tunneler. Someone loops you around the hook? Camper. Teammate DC'd but the Killer didn't farm? Evil!!
1 -
okay, that happens in all games, but this and that are different situations, i have no sympathy for killers getting ######### talked at the end if they camped and tunneled, like this epidemic of face camping bubbas we're seeing, nobody cares about survs making mistakes and being sore losers, i'm talking about purposely patrolling the hook until some rescues then tunneling them down, clear as day

You decide. For me it is more fun to go for hooks or a immersed gameplay (Myers = Obsession last). But this is totaly up to you.
You get more BP for hooks thou and some archives are based on hooks.

I think that more often than not, playing for hooks will lead to the most kills, but it really depends on the survivors. I don't like to camp, but if I hook a survivor and the rest descend on the hook like a plague of locusts, then yeah, I'll hang around and maybe end up with a 7-8 hook 4K. But if the survivors play intelligently, you're probably going to have to get 10+ hooks to get that 3-4K.
Straight up camping is only going to get you 3-4K if the survivors aren't all that good.
As a survivor, I like to play altruistically, but have developed the attitude that if a killer is going to camp/proxy camp, I am going to do my best to punish them for it. Yeah, you will get that kill, but maybe just that one.
But at the end of the day, you do best by playing whatever way the other players' approach dictates.
And yeah, 4K feels pretty empty if you don't pip or get only 15K BP.
2 -
Fully agree dude, if someone is playing with intent to troll then they of course deserve to be called out in the end game chat for it.
My point is though is that it is a definite trend that Killers are scolded or even insulted in the post-game chat, whatever they do. I think this is why a lot of Killers end up playing in a no mercy ("sweaty") style, or play in a toxic way.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't!
2 -
Playing like that will eventually put you against stronger and stronger squads.

Well, you could just stop caring about mmr. There's no reward for being high mmr. There's no incentive to be high mmr. Theres no leaderboard, and there's no recognition. Unless maybe you're a bigger streamer. But even then, who cares? Worrying about being a high mmr is pointless. It's a party game. Have fun with it.
Of course maybe the way you have fun is stressing about being high mmr. If that's the case, you do you. Everyone has their own preferences
1 -
so you're saying its a good strategy?
0 -
It is indeed very effective. But considering how unbalanced high MMR is, I doubt it will be fun. Just look how happy guys like Dowsey, Otz and Tru3 are on their streams now.
1 -
Coz you find it fun. I know I do, as a Twins main I could do the slug + camp everyone to death on first hook kind of thing but that got pretty boring to me fast because my priority is to entertain myself. If I incidentally score a 4k, even better.
And if getting a 4k is what's fun for you that's okay! Fun should always be the incentive for how you choose to play in games
1 -
I tend to set my own objectives based on the sort of game it turns out to be.
- If I'm crushing early, they get a DC and AFK etc. I'm going to 12 hook and I may just let a few escape intentionally. Especially if they are nice.
- If I'm up against a sweaty SWF or someone that BMs...everyone dies.
