I think Boon: Shadow Step is unhealthy for the game
In the current state, when boon totems have unlimited blessings and hide your aura and scratch marks... congrats, you have a permanent counter to aura reading perks, including BBQ and Chilly. This is definitely good for you, but... is this good for the person on the hook?
I guess not; as a killer, when I hook a survivor and check where other survivors are and see any aura readings, what would I think?
I would think all survivors are within BBQ blind range, so why would I go and check the opposite side of the map? No reason.
So I am gonna camp when I do not intend to. Don't get me wrong, I think camping is a beautiful killer tool, but there are cases when I want to camp and when I camp just because I don't see where else I can go.
So, thank you, shadow step. I shall use you with Sole Survivor when I am gonna play survivor next time!

So, how does that work in situations where people are jumping in lockers to avoid the aura? Is locker aura blocking also unhealthy?
Heavy stealth has already been beaten down to a point where its practically a throw ( and I personally like it like that). And that's why I'm surprised how many people consider it toxic for survivors to play in a very aggressive playstyle.

When a survivor is good at being immersed and it forces the killer to spend extra time looking for them, or to waste precious time on a hail-mary gen kick that you quickly tap to kill the regression, it can be extremely strong for the survivors.
I don't think you'll find the community complaining about that kind of stealth, it's more often reserved for the survivor that didn't contribute anything, or failed to provide relief to their teammates by spending some time in a chase when others were on their last hook.

But that same reasoning, it wasting too much time to find someone, is the same reason people camp or tunnel them. Because they may not find them again, so we meet the same conclusion, 'I'm going to camp them... I have to.'
And this isn't to say they can't or shouldn't. I'm just trying to say the whole "unhealthy for the game" has been said to death and people still do the unhealthy thing even before what they're talking about was in the game.

That's too much of a reach for me man. There are a million reasons for killers to proxy, tunnel, and camp, and survivors making clever use of immersion (Without the boon) isn't really high on the list of egregious offenders.
Also, I'm not going to victim blame survivors for playing well. There's plenty of other things to blame them for, and you need absolutely zero of those things to justify camping and tunneling.

I feel there is a very big difference between getting into a locker as a BBQ counterplay and lighting a shadow step.
1.Restrictions on behavior
The Stealth Locker must enter the locker before it can be hung from the hook. Nothing can be done during this counterplay.
Shadow Step only lights up in advance. There is no restriction on any action.
2.Counter performance
I'm still a newbie so I don't know a lot, but I do remember that the rocker only works on the BBQ and DOCTOR ULTs. (Excuse me if I'm right about something else).
Shadowstep has too many things that can be countered.
3.Hint
This is why I hate shadow steps the most.
It cuts off the important information of scratching and aura display, and forces the game to rely on intuition and luck.
It's a strange decision to implement this perk at the same time Spirit was nerfed, since it relies heavily on luck.

I am not gonna say hiding in the locker is super healthy, but Boon Shadow Step (hereinafter BS) does not exclude hiding in lockers.
BS is just one more powerful option for passive hidding.
Why it is unhealthy? because of uneven hook distribution for survivors, because someone, who has never been hooked before can just hide when their mates are dying on the hook. So this is more survivor problem now.
I am not complaining as a killer. I think survivors need to be concerned about this, especially solo Q.
BS is like a medicine: can heal or can kill.

You don't need BBQ to tell you where to go. Most survivors are aware of BBQ and will preemptively get into lockers to avoid its aura reading.
If you want an alternative that will tell you where you SHOULD go to find an important gen / survivors use Thrilling Tremors or Tinkerer. Discordance is great too.
Aura reading isn't everything. As for Shadow Step hiding scratch marks, you have blood to help track and crows as well. I use Bloodhound almost every match lately and can track people through Shadow Step zones. They literally cannot hide from you as long as you can follow neon puddles of blood on the ground which isn't difficult.
Adapt and utilize counter play you'll find that it isn't so bad.

Thank you for the advice, but there are financial reasons to run BBQ. This is why many killers run BBQ, not just because of aura reading.
However, when I see no one after hooking a survivor, well, I have no reason to leave the hook. Boon is one more reason not to leave the hook. And this is not my problem, but this is a problem of hooked survivor and their teammates.
I ran Bloodhound, but it does not help much in finding healthy survivors, also I have no problem tracking regular blood puddles. Maybe good on Spirit. Crows are situational, sometimes you see the crow, sometimes you don't.
In general, I appreciate your comment, it is informative and helpful. But my post is not about countering the perk, but rather: if I don't see the survivor -- I camp the hook. If I see someone to chase, I would rather go and chase that survivor, and leave the hook.

The biggerst problem I have with Shadow Step is chasing in places like RPD. I'm following a survivor, they turn a corner and then they are simply gone. Did they carry on running? Quick and Quiet in a locker? Corner juke me? If I guess wrong, they are gone for good and the chase is over.
