How do I get better at finding the Hatch?

I am new to the game. I have been playing killer pretty intensively for a few weeks, and I have graduated from complete noob status to sorta not terrible status.

I have got better at most of the core skills - chasing, generator control, finding survivors, when to give up etc etc.

However, I never get better at finding the hatch. I would have a below 10% success rate for finding it before the last survivor.

A quick google has indicated that the placement is not truly random on most maps, which is why survivors with experience would find it more often than I do. Which is fine, experience should count. Problem is, I never get better, because I don't learn where to look as the game ends and I don't ever see the hatch.

Any advice?

When it comes to finding hatch, it depends a bit on the map, and there's no specific rule I can give you to guarantee you will find it every match, but there are some map-dependent rules and limitations you can keep in mind such as these:

-The hatch never spawns in the basement. This is true on every map.

-If there is a hatch offering, it will have no effect on any indoor map as there is no main building or killer shack (these are the two places hatch offerings can force the spawn to be at). If it's at a shack, it will be outside of the shack on the side with no entrance (no door and no window). Every outdoor map has a killer shack EXCEPT Haddonfield; if you get that map with the killer shack hatch offering, it will also have no effect.

-On indoor maps other than RPD: The hatch will only spawn either on the 1st floor, or on the stairwell between the 1st and 2nd floor. It will NEVER spawn on a 2nd floor.

-On RPD: The hatch can spawn on ANY floor including the 3rd floor library, have fun finding that. Hatch is an absolute crapshoot on that map and there's really not any good tips I can give you for it.

-On outdoor maps: Generally speaking, the hatch can spawn in a lot of places, including in jungle gyms, in main buildings, near pallet loops, or just out in the middle of a deadzone, but it will NEVER spawn on the very edge or corner of the map (it can still be close to an edge though). The exception to this rule is the Backwater Swamp maps, on these maps the hatch CAN be tucked away in a corner or directly up against the edge of the map, which is kind of annoying but worth knowing about.

That's about all I can think of right now, hopefully this helps.

    Firstly welcome to the game!

Now to your question. Yes, there are certain places it's more likely to spawn than others though I have seen it be completely random and no matter how many times I circle the map I can't find it. What I might suggest would be to use some of the brown addons which control the hatch appearing in the main building or killer shack, it will give you more of a chance until you get used to finding it. One thing I can recommend is if you're chasing the survivor, try and chase them back the way they came rather than trying to beat them to hatch. Chances are it isn't where they'd just come from and that gives you a better chance to get them down before they find it.

A good tip. It had occurred to me that the odds of finding it as a killer are probably less than 50%, because you are chasing the other person sometimes, and they are therefore more likely to find the hatch first.

But most frequently, what happens is I finish off the third survivor, give my self a well deserved pat on the head, then spend between zero and thirty seconds searching the part of the map I am on, then bam, the game ends.

If it was mostly me chasing survivors onto the hatch, at least I would be learning. But I never even see the hatch most of the time.

I recommend that you should either ignore the survivor and search a different area of the map to them or chase the survivor, but zone them round to the area of the map that either you already searched, or they already searched, that way you can down them without giving them a chance to get to the hatch.

That is an excellent summary sizzlingmario4, thank you. I think that will help!
