Clicky-Clicky Flashlights
THE PROBLEM: From both my personal experience and the consensus of people I see streaming or in chat on streams, Rapid Flashlight clicking goes hand-in-hand with "Toxic" behavior. It is used to annoy/irritate people playing killers. Which, doesn't exactly promote a fun game when your intention is to irritate. People get 3rd party programs to "Strobe" with their button just to do this.
I'm not talking about the function of Flashlights, I don't mind if someone gets the save. I'm talking about using it simply to annoy or rub in how much they are beating you, like tea-bagging or moonwalking in front of the killer.
THE PROPOSAL: Each time the flashlight is activated, a set amount of battery is drained as a minimum.
For example: If you set the minimum battery drain to 1 second, then they are incentivized to keep the battery on for at least 1 second per activation otherwise they are wasting battery life.
This would help eliminate this particular toxic behavior and encourage flashlights to be used as intended.
In closing, I think player Toxicity is the biggest problem in this game. Not the bugs, not the devs, not the balance. It's how the players treat other players. I don't know how much post-game reports get followed through on, but I make them. And now that I've thought of at least ONE pro-active way to discourage a certain type of behavior that OFTEN goes hand in hand with people trash-talking and belittling people, well...I thought I'd submit the idea. Thanks for reading.

I approve of this.

This is dumb. It shouldnt offend you from flashlights strobing, i dont get why it does and it benefits you cause it tells you where they are and stops them from getting more distance.
0 -
because its very annoying, you can't mute that sound, what is dumb is why would you need macros to click your flashlight in the first place.
8 -
You don't need a macro lmao, use your finger on your mouse / controller, it ain't hard. The sound isn't that annoying and it doesn't happen that often.
0 -
THE PROBLEM: none
0 -
you're right you dont need to use Macro to do it, but i really doubt the guy installing the macro is doing it to get a tactical advantage. It is "that annoying" because sound is an important game mechanic. Doesn't matter how often it happens still annoying, how about just not doing it?

It is not a problem, and it doesn’t need fixing. Stop whining about nothing.

There is a thread about flashlight from one player with epilepsy mentioning the toxic clicking caused him episodes.
9 -
Reading this thread you can tell who likes a little "click-click" in game lmao
Yeah good idea. It should drain the battery.

I honestly don't care as a killer. I just know they're trying to get my attention and distract me. I pay it no mind.
1 -
Go ahead and tell ANYONE EVER "X thing you're offended by shouldn't offend you" and see how that works. Also, yes, I realize it tells me where they are...that IS the point. Did you read the entire post? About how this is related to toxicity? Not strategy?
To you, maybe. But it is to a lot of people.
It IS a problem, to a lot of people. It's toxic behavior that 9/10 times is combined with several other toxic behaviors. This makes the game not-fun for some people. Obviously not you, but it's not all about you. If it bothers someone, and the solution doesn't affect you at all, why did you feel the need to take the time to naysay it?
My proposed change literally takes NOTHING away from any of you unless you are the ones that like to do this, while also helping to a eliminate a problem that other people see. But none of you are saying "I like doing this for X non-toxic reason" So I assume that :
A. You don't do it. So why do you care?
B. You DO do it, and want to keep doing in which case I ask why? What is your reasoning for spamming flashlight clicks? Cuz I don't think you can give me a defendable reason. But you might, so I'll listen.

Im not really a fan of the clicking either. But there is another non toxic use for the clicking. To get the attention of another survivor. Nothing big, but still helpful.
0 -
For example:
-You want to show him something like hatch, an item or whatever.
-You want him to help with your gen, maybe bc you have prove thyself.
-You want to heal/get healed.
etc
So it can be helpful communication for solo survivors :)

I am a survivor main and I hate clicky flashlighters. They annoy other survivors with them too.
3 -
Jeez you're quite aggressive lmao, it doesn't have to be toxic people just label it as that. Sometimes survivors use it to tell each other where they are.

When the first three words you type in my thread are "This is dumb" and then you accuse me of being aggressive. One wonders why?

Personally, I think the frantic clickity-click offscreen from a survivor that wants me to chase them while I'm deliberately ignoring them and chasing someone else is very satisfying.

#AForumCanNeverDieBaby
Clicky survivors are the same people who farts in stranger's face as an greetings and thinking it's normal.

I facecamp flashlights click spam survs since first hook until they die
0 regrets, not ashamed at all
Oh also if they were really annoying and they are the last one alive in the match, i go to grab something to eat or drink while they bleedout on the floor

I agree. Its normally a swf and they are the best at looping, so ignore them. Its the same with constant banging on the other side of the map, when you know they are doing gens where you are. These players are not toxic, they just think killers are stupid.
Although playing survivor I have used it for come here and heal, or come here and do gen, or even run cause the killer is coming. Really must learn Morse code.

Doesn’t DBD have multiple flashing lights such as the notification sound, and intro animation? And like the blinding effect, fire crackers, gen getting done sound, etc. sounds like he should be playing a different game if flashlight clicking is giving him episodes
0 -
Flashlight clicking really isn't that big of a problem. It's very easy to just ignore the survivor doing it.
0 -
Clicky clicky is not "toxic"
0 -
Sounds like a survivor main who wants to be able to antagonize killers
2 -
Cause everyone who doesn’t agree with you is a ‘survivor main’ learn how to listen to people’s opinions instead of just going nope and putting a wall up.

I've had epilepsy for 15 years and been playing this game for 4. The only thing about this game that triggers me is the strobbing of the flash lights. Maybe they should put a cool down on the flash and give us a finger snap emote to get each others attention.
