What’s the point of the basement?
I’m not actually asking this to get some generic unpractical nonsense answer no. I play this sometimes fun but othervise trash game for 4 years now. The real question is, why the #########, do we still have a basement in the videogame that was designed in mind that hooks were PERMANENTLY sabotageable. Which is obviously a thing that only the now long dead and burried dinosaurs remember of, but still, for some unjustified reason, we are still getting that outdated dogshit structure on every single map as a middle finger signature for them. WHY????????????
MMR broke the game and now everyone is trash and are just camping. Camping the basement is by far the easiest thing to do, some killers do it with no possible hope of rescue unless your team is well coordinated.
This doghouse game has more than many issues and I get that, it’s meant to be a milking cow nothing more, but recently the devs sucked out of all the fun if it. I decided it’s better that Riot has all my gaming money, I don’t understand why sould I or anyone else spend on this circus anymore.

The basement is the killers domain, that's why it exists. If you're a survivor, you need to be aware of where the basement is or you risk getting yourself put into a bad situation that the killer can exploit.

No, you're asking it because you want to get up on a soap box and whine and for some reason have chosen The Basement as the box you want to stand on.
But you got a practical answer anyway!

Damn, he's seen through my clever ruse!
I'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling teens and that mangy dog of yours!!!!

Because the killer deserves a favorable structure, I guess is what they were going for. I just wish the killer shack, which is what the basement is usually in, was as strong for killer. You're not getting a basement hook in shack against smart survivors.

Calls game trash, yet still plays it. Seems legit

I only use basement if I am near it. As a killer it is handy, but as a survivor it can be a place where the dreaded camper lives.

The basement is so outdated. It’s not scary, it’s just unhealthy for the game because it makes people camp.

isnt everything unhealthy tho

Even if its "use" is now mechanically outdated, it's still a structure, in a Horror game, that people absolutely hate being taken into.
In that sense it is still very much current.
And it doesn't make people camp, you can do that practically anywhere. It just feels like it's easiest to camp there (and true campers know that you don't sit at Hook in the basement, you stand at the doorway to get the first hit in on a rescuer, needing at least 2 to divebomb the Hook).
But it does make the Survivors feel cornered even against a "fair" Killer as it's stupid to heal under hook since you're going to be quite literally tunneled out of the Exit as it's only one pathway. (I've always wondered what it would be like if The Basement was actually a lattice of interconnected Tunnels that would create Entrances throughout the Trial, maybe giving Killers Undetectable while inside them)

Were they?
My guess is that you got basement camped. It happens.
That said, the reason the basement exists is that it provides a high risk/high reward goal for the killer. If you take the time to get someone there and hook them, you can use it to catch survivors out.
'Camping', in and of itself is not a bad thing. Facecamping is, which is why BHVR have stated that they are introducing a mechanic eventually to prevent it. But if you are facecamping in the basement, you are a bad killer. The basement is about proxy camping, which even the devs have stated is a perfectly legitimate tactic.
