Netflix and Stranger Things
With the announcement that DbD is going to appear at the Epic Games store, it would be remiss not bring up the Stranger Things controversy with a new observation.
When Netflix announced it was going to get into subscription gaming, it named Epic Games as one of it's direct competitors. It did not name Steam/Valve as one of its competitors.
Although it is not evidence, it is much easier to see what prompted Netflix to pull the ST license. It was not due to Netflix's gaming storefront possibly being at odds with Valve or Steam; it is because BHVR has partnered with Epic Games, who is a named competitor for Netflix and it's gaming service.
This would infer that BHVR was responsible for the ST license pull, at least in the sense that BHVR caused Netflix to pull the license when BHVR provided Netflix the update about working with its named competitor, Epic Games.
Don't blame Netflix for the loss of the demodog.

Ultimately it is still Netflix who is choosing to pull the license, because they have some foolish notion that they actually have a chance of success as a gaming service in spite of their 1st party being a single indie-tier studio. Netflix is never going to be able to compete with the big boy gaming services, especially Xbox's Gamepass, with what they are offering, unless they make a huge investment into gaming, acquiring and building multiple studios, including AAA studios. Netflix's foray into gaming will most likely be short lived, and yet it is costing us a map as well as the ability for new players to buy Steve, Nancy, and Demo.

I'm gonna blame netflix. They cancelled this license like it was a critically acclaimed show that hadn't had a proper finale.

BHVR isn't at fault on this one. It's all on Netflix. They chose to remove the content. BHVR handled this very well, giving everyone a chance to buy the chapter at a reduced rate, as well as the cosmetics. They announced it plenty ahead of time. And they made the perks general perks so nobody will miss out on them. BHVR takes a lot of (deserved) criticism. But this isn't something they deserve flak for.

There was an actual Stranger Things game on Steam that got pulled as well. Netflix really was just cleaning house.
Believe me, BHVR has burned away every default presumption of good-faith on my part & squandered any last remnant of goodwill left lingering, so I'll absolutely take them to task over their misdeeds and for every bill due.
This really just isn't on them.

It's funny that Netflix is even trying to get into the game market. They're starting on Android mobile games. 2 of which are stranger things themed and at least 3 and 4 years old respectively. the other 3 of the 5 games are just pointless junk.
Don't be surprised if anything Stranger things related gets pull down everywhere. like others have said they're just bringing it all in house.
Are they going to lose money on it? yeah.
Is Netflix getting into a gaming service a smart business decision based on how they're doing it? No.
However Money talks and Stranger Things belongs to Netflix before DBD got to use it and Netflix pulled the plug.
The only thing I will get on BHVRs case about is that they said that if you had the Stranger things DLC the perk names and achievements would not change for you but people who didn't have it would get the generic versions. That didn't happen and now I'm stuck with dumb names and just Chapter 13.
