Why are no female killers ever actually evil?

Noticed this with the Artist's release. Pretty much every male killer is a bad person, or at least someone who would kill without the Entity's provocation, barring some exceptions; Wraith, Deathslinger, possibly Trapper and Bubba. They're people with whom the Entity wouldn't need to do much to convert into a killer. But every single female killer with the sole exception of Pig (and even then, you could argue John Kramer made her the way she is by kidnapping and traumatising her with violent maiming) is a tragic, sympathetic character who was forced into killing!

Nurse: Husband was killed, she was abused in asylum job until she went insane. Not evil.

Huntress: Mother died traumatically in front of her while she was very young, and she was left to survive by herself in the Russian wilderness. Not evil.

Hag: Kidnapped and violently maimed by cannibals. Overcome by dark forces and not really in control of herself as a killer. Not evil.

Spirit: Violently maimed and killed by her father, overcome by rage and dark forces and not really in control of herself as a killer. Not evil.

Legion(s): Both Julie and Susie were forced into helping kill the janitor by Frank. Julie's more of an evil person than Susie, but regardless but is still pushed to kill by Frank. Not evil.

Plague: The height of morality. Did everything she could for her people, exiled and almost sacrificed herself in an attempt to cure their sickness. Strange how she's even a killer. Not evil.

Twins: Charlotte was persecuted and hunted from birth, mother traumatically murdered in front of her, generally very poor life without any choice in the matter in regards to killing. It's hard to blame her for it, very sympathetic character. Not evil.

And now we have Carmina, who was a good person and political artist - who, you guessed it, was kidnapped and violently maimed until she was overcome by dark forces and is no longer really in control of herself as a killer. It's starting to get a little old. Surely not every female killer needs to be a moral and upstanding person who was forced to become a killer, usually through violent maiming or loved ones dying traumatically? Or at the very least give us more sympathetic male killers, we've only got like, four.

i guess its from killrate of real world

  • Prob because the people that play female killers, not saying a good porcentage, but only play them for their looks or lore alone. To make a really evil female character would be risky if she's not attractive, at least that's what i think

While I agree with Altarf that Vader would be nifty, though on-par with FNAF as far as "fitting" - how is Anakin sympathetic versus the "born bad" issue we already have? He was laughing about killing people in the pod racing and his starship flight scenes in the first prequel: he was born bad, and nothing he did was really, truly redemptive.

If you were being sarcastic, the question goes to anyone who sincerely thinks Anakin was good - because I know they're out there.

More on-topic: I said it in the other recent thread, "women need a crucible, men are born as problems" is a trope. It'll be neat if we buck it soon, o'course.

OH BOY SOMEONE ASKED A STAR WARS QUESTION.

How long has it been since you've seen the movies?

Also yeah he wouldn't really fit at all

A while. It's not the kind of thing I forget about, though.

    Well, for your two examples:

During the podrace scene (which was wicked by the way) Anakin keeps a straight face or a frown during the entire race. After he wins, he smiles as everyone else celebrates his victory with him, including Qui-Gon and Padme. Also, he didn't kill anybody during the podrace. The one guy who crashed after trying to kill Anakin was very clearly alive, considering he has a line after he crashes in the desert.

During the Battle over Naboo, he's struggling to keep the ship intact and eventually lands in the hangar as a result of the auto-pilot. He knows the ship is responsible for killing his friend's people, so he accidentally destroys it. He celebrates after emerging from the ship probably because he's happy that he's alive. I doubt he even realized there were sentient lifeforms on board, he's 9.

    And as a rebuttal example:

Other than hearing that these people are stranded far away from home, he invites total strangers into his and his mother's home so that they won't be left out during a dangerous storm. He asks for nothing in return and leaving them in danger is inconceivable to him.

    And not just the Claudettes...

But the Dwights, and the Megs too

I mean, his role was basically like the Star Wars slasher villain, so that wouldn't be out of place.

Like I mentioned in another thread about the same topic, through history most sadistic killers have been male. Most. It's rare, but there are a small number of females. Elizabeth Bathory is a well known unsympathetic female killer, and I think people would love to see a character inspired by her in DbD.

I was definitely pretty disappointed with The Artist's lore. I was hoping she would be a cult member or leader who was recruited by the Black Vale, embraced her position within the cult with enthusiasm, made cultish paintings (which would explain her ties to the crows and ink) and was ultimately being prepared to be a grand sacrifice ("transcendence") for the Entity. When it came time to be the ultimate sacrifice, she would willingly have her hands and tongue removed since they were her most prized possessions, signifying her devotion. And when the ritual was near completion, Jonah would show up and see what was happening--and at the conclusion of the ritual, they would both be suddenly taken by the Entity (since him being there seems like it was being orchestrated in his life up to that moment as well).

Instead of having yet another tragic character, we could have had a dignified, ruthless cult member reminiscent of Pinhead. That's honestly what I was expecting, but instead we got sad story number 8...

I think this is less of a gender issue and more of a quality of writing issue in general. I mean they've even made Clown more sympathetic, a product of his environment.

Plague literally gouged a mans eyes out in her lore I think she’s kinda evil

Nurse is a eugenicist according to her tome.Huntress killed entire villages and kidnapped little girls, she did a lot more than just survive.

Just because Huntress did wrong things doesn't necessarily make her evil. She raided and killed villages only to spare and kidnap young girls, thinking she was protecting them, only to have them starve to death because she didn't know what to do. She didn't have much of a moral agency either, she grew up with the mind of a 7-year-old.

Well a pure evil lady would be nice imo, but considering the information in Pure Evil Wiki (https://pure-evil-villains.fandom.com/wiki/Pure_Evil_Wiki) very few killers in DBD are actually pure evil.

Well, eventually some of the more not so evil killers need to team up with the survivors to take out the entity and escape its realm so yea it makes sense not all of them are just pure evil killers. Also, why do you care about this in a pvp game? I mean none of the characters really need lore. Maybe if DBD had a story mode where we take on the entity and escape back to earth but for now this just seems like something not worth worrying about.

I can agree that some of them aren't actually evil. Some of them are just bad people.

    • Nurse: She did lose her sanity at the Asylum, yes. But she looked down on sick and disabled people. = Bad Person
    • Hag: Not evil, not a bad person either.
    • Huntress: I guess she got traumatised by her mother's death and her being alone in the forest all her life probably changed her quite a lot. But she enjoys killing humans, they are her favourite "prey". = At least a bad person
    • Pig: I haven't read her Lore yet. But from what I've heard, she's not a good person.
    • Spirit: Not evil, just angy! xd
    • Legion: I'm pretty sure it was only Susie that didn't want to kill that dude while Julie didn't really care.
    • Plague: Not evil. Just dumb lmao
    • Twins: Not evil, just want to be left alone.
    • Artist: Haven't read her lore yet, so I have no clue.

I think you got it wrong here.

There are plenty more male Killers who are not "evil" but rather misguided. Hillbilly was mistreaded by his parents and was taught by them how to murder cows until one day he could no longer bear it and killed all those who were involved. Remember the police was helping their parents and had fun watching Billy maim cows.

Wraith was betrayed by Azaroth and only wanted a peacful life after escaping from his homeland where his fmaily was murdered and eaten by ants. Azaroth tricked him into crushing people with cars until Wraith figured it out and in his dispair threw Azaroth into the maschine, only keeping his skull and spine for ritual reasons.

Spirit was always gifted with evil. As a descendant of Oni she always had that violent nature and was barely able to control it. You can see this in her broken bamboo sword. That thing did not break from traning. It is hard to say if she would ever have given into that blood rage like Kazan did but she was never a peacful character. She gave into the bargain for revenge with the entity and we can argue about revenge leading to the dark side.

And just for the jokes: Nemesis has no gender as does Demogorgon. Both are also driven by their very nature and are not evil. Pyramide Head also only punishes those who do not accept their guilt and is more of a conceptual being than something driven by evil.

I disagree with Legion by the way. Susie was pushed but so was Joey. Frank had them all under his palm and used the group dynamic to his advantage. However Julie was hardly forced in my opinion. She had little remorse and did the deed quit willing.

Overall yes, we could use a female Killer who just kills for fun or for another purpose.

I would opt for a terrorist typ Killer who deploys bombs and detonates them. Something that shows brutality and no remorse or concern about collateral damage. I would hate to see the stereotypical black widow character.

Why are there always some people that are searching THE thing like "look at that, there is not enough equity, males have that and not females".

I mean, I'm sure if there wouldn't be any female killers in S tier, there would be some people saying "why, female killers can't be strong ?"

You found THE fish bone on your plate.

There is a tall woman (The Plague), there is a strong woman (The Huntress), there is a scary woman (The Spirit (and hell she's seeking revenge, this character is so well made imo)), and there is the only telekinetic character that is The Nurse.

Also if you take a look on the original characters, there are 10 male killers, and 8 female killers, which is a very good ratio (absolute equity in number shouldn't be a thing, it's the path to living an actual hell, and unfairness).

I don't know if you're making this post to campaign for feminism, if yes, you're so wrong, if not, my apologies, I think I've been a bit agressive in my comment.

Back to the topic, males are biologically more agressive (because of testosterone, among others), so psychopath are more common on the men side than the women side.

I mean, few killers on dbd *are* evil. A lot did horrible things, but even then, they're rarely "evil."

Look at Blight. The guy has a massive body count, yet isn't truly evil because he expresses genuine regret and the deaths were unintentional.

Look at Oni. From his point of view, most of what he did was the morally correct path. Even his massacre could be defended as him simply defending his family's honor, and he DID breakdown when he learned he had killed his father.

The only truly "evil" killers in this game I would say are... Danny, Doc, Clown, and Trickster (discounting licensed killers). They know what they're doing is wrong, and they do not care.

    That's only 4 out of... what? 25? 26?
