Greetings, survivors, killers, and both-siders of the Fog! I hope this thread finds you doing well. I am here to present to you my idea for another Freddy rework.

Now, several threads here showed to us and to the devs that the chance to play as Old Freddy again is something that the community truly wants and needs. Which is perfect, however bringing him back without any changes may not be the best idea. After all, we all know that he required a few buffs and QoL improvements (never a full rework tho).

Please, allow me to present to you my idea for an improved Nightmare:

Power: Dream Demon

Pull survivors into the Dream World

-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.

-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.

-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.

-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.

Once in the Dream World:

-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.

-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.

-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.

-Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.

-Hooked Survivors wake up.

Special Ability: Dream Projection

-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.

-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.

You have nothing to worry about. This won’t hurt one… little… bit.” -Freddy Krueger

Add-ons:

Wool Shirt:

-Slightly decreases Skill Check chances in the Dream World.

Sheep Block:

Slightly reduces Dream Transition time.

-Time to fall asleep is reduced by 0.5 seconds.

Kid’s Drawing:

An unattributed drawing clearly crafted by a young child.

Slightly increases Dream Demon range.

Garden Rake:

Slightly increases Movement speed while casting Dream Demon.

Prototype Claws:

Moderately increases Movement speed while casting Dream Demon.

Outdoor Rope:

While Survivors are in the Dream World:

Applies a moderate (-6%) Action Speed penalty to Repair, Healing, and Sabotage actions.

Nancy’s Sketch:

Moderately increases Dream Demon range

Green Dress:

Considerably decreases Skill Check chances in the Dream World.

Slightly increases Dream Projection charge time.

Cat Block:

Moderately reduces Dream Transition time.

-Time to fall asleep is reduced by 1 second.

Unicorn Block:

Considerably reduces Dream Transition time.

-Time to fall asleep is reduced by 1.5 seconds.

Swing Chains:

Survivors suffer from an increased Action Speed penalty of 60% after 30 seconds in the Dream World

Survivors only see glimpses of The Nightmare during the Dream Transition.

Nancy’s Masterpiece:

Tremendously increases Dream Demon range.

Jump Rope:

Tremendously decreases Survivors' Action speed when in the Dream World.

Blue Dress:

Moderately decreases Skill Check chances in the Dream World.

Moderately reduces Dream Projection charge time.

I had to keep you awake long enough so when you finally slept… you would never wake up again” -Freddy Krueger

Pill Bottle:

Survivors do not see The Nightmare during the Dream Transition.

Paint Thinner:

Tremendously increases Movement speed while casting Dream Demon.

Class Photo:

-When a Survivor is pulled into the Dream Transition, all other Survivors' Auras are revealed to The Nightmare for the duration of the Dream Transition.

-Tremendously increases Dream Transition time.

Time to fall asleep is increased by 2 seconds.

“Z” Block:

Tremendously reduces Dream Transition time.

-Time to fall asleep reduced by 2 seconds.

Red Paint Brush:

-Tremendously decreases The Nightmare's Terror Radius.

-Tremendously reduces Dream Transition time.

Time to fall asleep is reduced by 2 seconds.

-Slightly reduces The Nightmare's Movement speed.

Don’t be afraid. I can make it the way it was... Just the way you liked it” -Freddy Krueger

Black Box:

-Broken pallets are replaced by Dream Pallets

-Non-sleeping survivors cannot see or interact with Dream Pallets

I can sleep… I just don’t want to” -Dean Russell

Extra details:

-The Nightmare’s Movement Speed Penalty for putting a survivor into the Dream Transition lasts for 1 second, as it originally was.

-The Nightmare has a 24 metres Terror Radius

-Dying Survivors who are healed to the Injured State aren’t automatically woken up.

-A Survivor’s Aura is revealed to the Nightmare immediately after said survivor leaves his Terror Radius.

P.S

And that is it! My idea for a Freddy change that should restore his fun aspect and address his weaknesses. Please let me know what you think, and as always, see you you in the Fog!

-Signed by GeneralV, your local Freddy main.

EDIT; Just keep the concept up to date :)

Thank you so much, my friend :)

I tried to go for a complete version this time, with add-ons and some extra details, and I am glad to see that you've liked it.

The devs don't seem to be very keen to revert any changes that required more than a few work hours to implement.

And even then, one thing I can tell you for sure. They will never implement in this current era a killer with 40% slowdown basekit. Especially, because the dream transition would be unavoidable due to incapacitated. And even without that, self-care is not meta anymore, which back in the days was a counter to Freddy. Stacking slowdown perks, on the other hand, is very much meta. And that would spell disaster if this reversal proposal went through.

"The devs don't seem to be very keen to revert any changes that required more than a few work hours to implement."

I would laugh if it wasn't true... However, this isn't enough for me to give up. I will never lose hope. I can't lose hope.

As for the rest, 40% slowdown is 10% less than what he used to have and can be completely denied by a simple wake up action. The Dream Transition was always unavoidable unless you got a lucky skill-check, and the Incapacitated would be there to prevent you from finishing a gen or an unhook right in front of Freddy, which was stupid to begin with.

As for Self-Care, I never intended it to work with this change. Healing skill-checks wouldn't wake you up, because that was extremely unbalanced. But no one uses Self-Care anymore, so I guess it doesn't even matter.

Last but not least, slowdown perks. They are somewhat of a necessity, but it is not guaranteed that the Freddy player will be running them, and even if he is, they have their counters: Thanatophobia can be removed, Ruin can be removed, Pop is not always active and the list goes on.

I think this change would be a win for Old Freddy players and survivors who find current Freddy boring.

By the way, thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.

It sounds interesting, but the developers will not give Freddy a full review after the nerf they gave him, I find it quite balanced and being in tier B seems fair for both sides.

Yeah, I know. But I just refuse to give up. I refuse to lose hope.

Anyway, I am glad to see that you've found it interesting :) I really tried my best to come up with a perfect Freddy.

    Thank you for the feedback!

I like this. The power recovery boost peer sleeping survivor might need tweaks but this seems interesting

Yeah I think old Freddy had some fun aspects that could be brought back

As someone who played him exclusively for a very long time, I agree.

Yeah he's so boring and uninspired now. It's a shame. Who you maining now?

I am not playing DBD anymore. But before I left, I still mained Freddy, as my love for the character is stronger than any change.

I also played Hag and Pig :)

I'm the same way with Pig, I love the character. Used to play Freddy although I dropped him now that he's so boring. I don't blame you for leaving, sadly

I left because DBD is no longer that precious game I fell in love with, back in 2018. Therefore, I have no reason to stay.

If something unexpectedly interesting happens, I will return to the Fog.

Sorry to respond to an old thread, but I like looking at your stuff as a fellow Freddy main. Freddy used to be my exclusive main too from 2018 up until the rework where I now jump around between killers. I miss how is old power worked and I had my own changes for how I think a buffed version of his old kit could be along with some quality of life changes for both sides:

    - Freddy is invisible to awake survivors and see glimpses of him when transitioning to the dream state. Freddy cannot injure awake survivors. He must manually put them to sleep with his power.

    - Reduce transition time to 5.0-5.5 seconds base kit (before you basically had to use add ons to do this so now they won't feel as mandatory, however keep the slow affect he had on himself when he used to pull survivors in the dream world)

    - Use the concept of dream clocks, wake up action, and hooks making survivors awake that current Freddy has and remove skill checks putting survivors out of dream world (the rng of skill checks made his old power infuriating to use so only the wake up action, dream clock, and hooks would give the Nightmare some slow down and consistency)

    - Remove or reduce the slow down survivors gained in the dream world (same reason survivors hated it on reworked Freddy before the nerf and old Freddy: makes gameplay boring for survivors)

[fun fact I have noticed over the years playing as Freddy: ever since survivors were made to no longer be slowed down in the dream world, I never see survivors fail skill checks to wake up. They always find someone else or waste time going towards a dream clock which is nice]

    - Keep the aura reading of survivors in dream world outside of terror radius (this is one thing that made his power unique and a good tracking killer)

    - Add the teleporting ability (allows the Nightmare to punish dream survivors working on distant generators instead of going to dream clocks)

    - I also had an idea that the Nightmare himself gets stronger with each survivor he pulls into the dream world. This way it benefits himself instead of doing the thing that survivors don't like: decreasing their action speed. For example:

    1) At one survivor in dream world, he unlocks his other power to scratch a wall at a loop. This would work kind of like a dream snare but covers the wall he scratches with his claws (like in the movies). He can only scratch one wall with his claw to keep it balanced before it goes on cooldown but this would make survivors have to either go around the wall a bit which allows Freddy to get closer or they get hindered by the clawed wall like the snares do. And he can switch between pulling survivors and scratching a wall with a button like how Clown switches between bottles

    2) At two survivors, teleportation recovery speed increases

    3) At three survivors, pallet breaking speed increases

    4) At four survivors, vaulting speed increases

Nothing too crazy to be unbalanced but works well with his personal perk Fire Up. I'd like to know if you like these changes or would change things that I have suggested. I feel this is more unique in correlation with his old design compared to the unimaginative power and design he has right now that we dislike.

    (11/16/2021 Edit Update:

I no longer agree with my version of old Freddy changes. I think my ideas at the time change old Freddy too much. I personally support GeneralV's old Freddy changes completely and wish this version of Freddy would be implemented into the game. Here is to supporting old Freddy and advocating for our boy to come back to us some day.)

Hey there, fellow Old Freddy enjoyer!

I never expected this thread to be revived. Actually, this thread has one or two things that I would have to change, since I updated the concept once or twice. Still, I really appreciate your support.

While I do think you would change far too many things, I believe you are absolutely correct on your comment about his current power. We really need to get rid of that.

This isn't that bad of an idea I was skeptical at first but, I like where you took the idea. Nice.

I love it! I miss old Freddy since he was way more entertaining in my opinion. He was very unique. Current Freddy is pretty much a typical M1 Killer. I also like the changes you made here :D.

I like this, anything than his current passive toolkit, old freddy was more interesting just needed some love like you've detailed. This is far more interactive and unique.

I want the old Freddy Dream Pull mechanic back in the game, as an alt power you can switch between Snares and Pull - like Clown's A&A bottles. But I don't think any killer should have a debuff built into their power.

The idea for making it so generators affected by Projection cannot be repaired is a good touch, and the addition of Incapacitated for the duration of Dream Pull. But I honestly think a combination of Old and Current Freddy is the direction to go in:

Freddy's Terror Radius is 32m and is the NOES Lullaby regardless of awake or asleep. Awake survivors hear the generic terror radius when Freddy is within 12m of their location.

Survivors affected by Dream Pull experience a 100% accelerated sleep timer and suffer with Incapacitated for 7 seconds.

Survivors can halt the acceleration by using an alarm clock or have another teammate slap them into their senses.

Survivors waking up using an alarm clock when fully asleep have their location revealed via Killer Instinct when woken up for 1.5 seconds.

Survivors that are immune to sleep post-alarm clock wake-up can still be affected by the Dream Pull Incapacitated effect but do not begin sleep transition.

The add-ons should not be changed completely either. Dream Pallets should still exist; The dresses should decrease skill-check odds like you say; the Z-Block should cause all asleep survivors within 32m of Freddy to scream revealing their location when a sleeping survivor is hooked; the rest of the add-ons are fine imo. Maybe buff current Black Box to be 20 seconds instead of 10.

Since you're a Freddy main, how would you rate current Freddy's strength on a tier list? I personally think he is the weakest killer in the game. I'm curious to hear a Freddy main's opinion of him :)

I noticed that you didn't mention dream snares. Are they gonna be gone from this "new" freddy? Or is it just replaced by putting survivors asleep?

Oh, do you not like them at all? I mean I can understand why.

I do not play DBD anymore, but if I recall everything correctly...bottom of the A Tier.

Freddy is still a strong character, just VERY boring and uninteresting.

    Nope, I don't.

Besides, there isn't really a reason to have a chase power on a character who was never meant to be an aggressive chaser.

i also have an idea which seems unique and fun that u can add-on to that power.

Healthy Survivors in the dream world are exposed. as soon as you down them, you can teleport them on a hook. As soon as you do. They go on the hook then scream for and transition to a new area in the map, unhooked (they don't get a hook state its a bad dream). and you become oblivious and exhausted for 10 seconds until you recover from the nightmare you had. if you use your power on an injured survivor and down them, however, you put them on a hook and they wake up as usual.
