Anyone else prefer playing underwhelming killers?

As the title suggests, playing underperforming killers feels so much more fun for me. I'd take Legion, Twins, and Demo any day than Spirit or Blight.

At this point, playing the game the way you want should be your priority. Sure, survivors will occasionally boast themselves at gates whenever I play Demo or Legion, but at least I had fun playing them. I used to care about my performance in matches at red rank but over time, I noticed that this game is not worth stressing over thus, shifting my attention toward other playstyles.

I'm NOT saying you're not allowed to like the overperforming killers. Like whoever you want, but if you're not enjoying the top tiers because you feel forced to do so... babe, play whoever you want. With the current balance of the game, underwhelming killers will suffer, but if they make you feel happy, who's stopping you from playing them? Yeah, other players may [BAD WORD] on you, but their ignorance shouldn't change your mindset <3

Honesty, just have fun! You like Blight w/ Tinkerer? Go for it! You like meme builds w/ Legion? Go For it! I understand that people may not like the feeling of defeat, but until BHVR can improve the current balance of the game, don't stress over things out of your control!

I always preferred stronger killers O usually find the powers more dynamic with lots to learn. Compared to weaker killers who will more likely loose. But more importantly not dynamic low skill ceiling with a power that doesn’t have much depth

survivors don't appreciate when they get anyone other than spirit , blight , wraith - they continue to gen-rush as fast as possible and be uppity with teabags. its disgusting just how out-of-whack this game is , if an AAA-developer came along and made a competitor to DBD , just maybe, MAYBE , people would see just how awfully flawed this game is.

I main Pig, Legion and Pinhead. I also rarely use addons because it's sooo much more satisfying winning without all of that strong stuff. I sometimes get my butt kicked, but I often win games as well. I really wish more people would just play for fun... It's a lot less stressful (for both sides) and way more enjoyable.

I'm glad you find it fun too, just play the way you want with your favorite characters.

As survivor i keep on playing with random perks and the matches are not boring. and recently i started to play as Ghost Face, i find him way more fun than Spirit. as killer I'm playing for the hooks 😅

I mostly play trapper, ghost face, pin head, pyramid head and demo. Then when I get 1 too many swfs i switch to my nurse but it isn't fun playing as her. It's very frustrating when I mess up a blink. Even if I get a 4k it isnt much fun but there's only so many times survivors can be douche bags before I start to fight back.

Love playing Demo and Ghostface. Throw in Doctor and Plague too for some mid-tier options.

    'Underperforming' - no, not really.

What I enjoy is playing rare killers. Those that survivors may not have seen much of and thus it'll be a new, interesting experience.

These days I mostly play Demo, Doctor, Pig, Hag and Cenobite and am currently learning Plague.

True, playing for fun has been helping me stay with DBD tbh.

Playing with different perks can definitely spice things up! I like doing that too.

I'm not kidding, I've been cussed out in postgame after I 3 or 4k a team on Doctor, Hag, Pig or Demo (especially Doctor for some reason) with people telling me: 'omg scrub just play normally'.

    Play normally.

    Ye gods.

Demo is a ton of fun, the only thing that puts me off is his ridiculously and unnecessarily loud ambient sounds.

Doctor...I think a lot of people underestimate him. His shocks can be really janky (they stop actions correctly maybe 40% of the time) but his Static Blast is a great tool, Madness+Overcharge is an amazing regression/info tool and Starstruck+Agitation on Doctor is so filthy that you can only view it in Germany.

I have all killers so I'll usually play one on a whim, which means I'm running a set of brown add ons and I'm very often out of practice with whatever killer I'm using. It's just nice and chill most of the time.

I have a solid handle on M1 mindgames so if I can't get their main power to work I'm still a significant threat, but I'm nowhere near as strong as say a Huntress that can cross map snipe you or a Blight that can consistently land hits on you etc.

I do enjoy playing Ghost Face because I like the idea of sneaking up on survivors, stalking them and giving them jump scares by popping out of nowhere. But then you get reminded how incredibly lacklustre his add-ons are and how ridiculously weak he is. When you finally get that full stalk on someone and they can just mindlessly hold Shift+W on maps like Gideon's Meat Plant, going from pallet to pallet because there's one every 8 meters.

So while it can be fun to play underwhelming killers from time to time, when you come up across survivors that will click their flashlights and teabag you and there's nothing you can do because survivors are in full control of the chase, I just end up gravitating back to playing Nurse.

If killers realistically had actual separate mmr we could enjoy the lower tier killers more. However for the people at top mmr unless we like being masochists we really can't. Not much fun to be tbagged, taunted, mocked and destroyed no matter how good you play.

My favorite killers are the ones people consider weak. Myers, Legion, Pig...

  • nikodemo
    nikodemo Member Posts: 786

I definitely play who I love! That's why I'm here!

I have a stable of killers that I like and think are cool, but my top 3 main rotation are Pinhead, Pyramid Head, and Demogorgon.

Nurse is a killer that I actually think is awesome, but I don't enjoy playing her because of her look at the ground cooldown. I find it too disorienting.

  • Mazoobi
    Mazoobi Member Posts: 1,569

Same! I like to play a variety of characters so sticking to a singular killer for X amount of games is tough. My performance would be rough since I'm always jumping from one to another haha. I really wish a training zone or bot matches would be available so I could get a warm-up while avoiding potential toxic survivors who want to talk trash afterward

I'm referring to those who, as you just mentioned, are usually on the lower scale. I can see where you're coming from though. Most killers can have devastating impacts on a match, but there are those who just fail to do it consistently.

    I second this.

twins are fun. demo is fun. legion is fun.

    fun is good.

    I approve of fun.

I like when video games are fun.

I also like using polysyllabic words sometimes, but not in this post.

The problem is I am in that phase of grinding for bloodpoints and doing challenges in old tomes to unlock the charms. So I can't play how I want. But I would love to just play no hook Twins and bleed them out. I truly would. There is just too much grinding that needs to be done to support that habit.

Its not so much that I like playing underwhelming killer that I don't enjoy how the strongest killers tend to play.

Blight and Nurse are both killers that require what I would call difficult execution, you have to be both precise and fast, know their range, and spin your camera very quickly in addition to knowing the quirks and "techs" of their respective powers. But its not just limited to top tiers. In general I dislike any game mechanic that ask me to do some very quick and precise execution while I can barely see what I'm doing. Same reason I don't like Billy, even tho he is not as strong as he used to. His fiddly mechanics of reving and turning are still annoying to me.

By contrast Spirit is much easier to play. However her playstyle tends to get repetitive to me. Maybe because she ignore conventional looping, you don't get much satisfaction in outplaying survivors and she has nothing else to offer.

Meanwhile I will enjoy playing the Clown because I don't need some precise timing or unintuitive button hold to throw his damn bottles, even if he is not very good. Same logic applies to other low tier killers with simple and not annoying to use powers that might be weak.

    glitchboi Member Posts: 6,023

I really enjoy Clown. He's all about strategy, and believe it or not, I love using my brain in DBD.

Billy is also a killer I really enjoy. Like Clown, he requires strategy and mindgames, but you have to be more precise than Clown (although Clown still has a really high skill cap). Flicks tend to be difficult to pull off, especially without those engravings (still glad the engravings got buffed!).

You got a point and I should probably play Clown more bc I've seen some good clown plays, but was never been able to actually execute them.

This. Never be afraid to do something new! Explore! :D

    If you need any tips:

    • Don't be afraid to try using the antidote in loops.
    • If you have one antidote left, you can drop one and then reload to get that juicy speed boost out of that 1 bottle.
    • Antidotes are WAY better at closing in distances than people give credit for. Don't be afraid to do that either!
    • You can spread gas with the tonics by throwing them high at walls. Really helpful for smaller loops, but can still be very helpful in other loops.

Once you learn him, Clown is a really fun killer to play as!

I've been a Doctor main since my second day of playing, back when he was considered one of the weakest Killers in the game (and he's still widely considered middle of the pack at best). Legion and Cenobite are my next two mains, and neither of them are considered to be very good. And I almost always have an absolute blast with them, whether I get kills or not (hell, most of the time with Legion I'm just running Shadowborn so I can feel super fast due to their low POV, I just take hooks as they come).

    Oh, nice! Thank you!

Do you recommend any perks or new builds you found on him? Most builds I see revolve around PGTW, Enduring + SF, or his hindered add-ons.

I can't remember correctly, but I think this is the build:

BBQ (Bloodpoints, you can use whatever you want if you don't like BBQ), No Way Out (no map pressure so if the 5th gen pops you'll have plenty of time to secure a kill or more hooks, plus NWO is good on every killer), Surge (slowdown that compliments his ability to down survivors well and his M1 power), and Lethal Pursuer (enhances his early game potential).

    For add-ons:

I usually just play with his base-kit, but some of his add-ons are quite powerful.

His hindered add-on, as you mentioned, the Flask of Bleach, makes survivors a lot slower while in the gas.

Cigar Box shows the auras of survivors while you have the effects of the antidote.

The yellow Cork add-on makes his reloading faster, but I prefer Smelly Inner Soles, which enhances his reload movement speed in conjunction with his new reload speed from the rework which makes the add-on WAY better than it used to be (as VHS Porn, since it has the same effects as the old VHS Porn). Nothing's stopping you from using both either!

Well in most cases, they'll likely lose if they decide to play like the rest of the roster (getting as many hooks) and they're easily countered if the team knows what teamwork is alongside the more recent perks such as CoH or any good healing perk.

I like playing high skill/high reward killers like Nurse, Huntress, Plague, Blight, etc.

High skill/low reward killers like Billy and Clown are frustrating to play for me.

Low skill/high reward like old Spirit feel cheap.

Low skill/low reward like Legion and Pig are boring to play, because most of the time you win, it feels like survivors just played badly instead of you actually doing good.

if not filled with microtransactions, though. At least DbD only has you buy a character when it seems completely necessary.
