love it when I get steamrolled by reds, then decide to show no mercy to the next team...
...and totally destroy them, only to discover that they're all ash rank. 😥
(and yeah, I know MMR is separate from rank now, but rank is still a very very good indicator of a player's skill level)

I agree. In before the naysayers says no it’s not.
5 -
Rank is a very poor indicator of skill level now, especially, because a bunch of people got reset early.
6 -
If you're a competent killer you should be able to see whether the survivor team knows what they're doing or not lol.
8 -
i wouldnt say it is at all, just like old red ranks, there are a bunch of awful players in red lol
3 -
Yeah, the MMR in Escape Based Matchmaking, on the other hand, is a perfect indicator of skill level, sure. Because your skill = escapes and nothing else, right?
2 -
Funny. Lots of claims that the new ranking system is a poor indicator of skill..... yet somehow after, and during a game I can tell you exactly if the survivors I'm facing are red rank or not..... and whatya know it... I'm always right. Funny that.
2 -
If I can tell they're noobs, I can't help but ease up on them. I've wasted a LOT of good add-ons and offerings because of it but.. idk it's way more fun to meme than to steamroll them, to me anyway.

Those in red rank were in the red ranks of old, especially towards the end of the month (13th) Simple really

same, but it's hard when I'm "seeing red" from getting stomped the previous match, and my lizard brain just thinks "yes! by playing mercilessly I'm doing way better this match!" 😁
1 -
Holy crap yes. This happens so often it's not funny.
I'll get a game where someone DCs, so I'll go easy. The next game, I'll go in with this mindset and get roflstomped by a 4man SWF sweatcomp. Then I'll go sweaty in the next game and crush a bunch of newbies without knowing to ease up until it's too late.
Rinse and repeat.
1 -
Idc either way, all survivors are the same and deserve the worst treatment.
0 -
nah, I'm one of those weirdo killers who lives for 3k+dunk matches where in the post-game chat all the survivors go "gg! that was so much fun!!" It's a tough balance to strike, but so rewarding. 😁
3 -
It's not a good indication of skill anywhere near the 13rh of the month.
Before everyone is high grade, after everyone is low grade.

Glad we still have a stupid emblem, alongside a hidden MMR number
Just to make things extra annoying

One system assessed you on a bunch of different categories, you had to contribute in multiple aspects of the game. Considering the requirements to pip, never interacting with the killer would lose you the whole evader emblem and make it very difficult to pip without both escaping and consistently contributing to the team by healing and repairing well above your share.
The other system rewards doing absolutely nothing as long and you skulk out of the exit gate after the people who carried you or luck out and find the hatch at the end.
Say what you will about emblems and rank, but I can't see any rational reasoning that makes it worse than that absolute trash that is "all that matters is escapes vs kills."
1 -
I guess you've never played the old rank system. Blendettes never pipped back then, precisely because they did nothing all game. Now on the other hand, it's not hard for a blendette who did nothing to escape and increase her MMR.
0 -
That is....not a fact lol
0 -
Which is a problem... why?
That blendette is facing tougher opponents above her level for no reason. She's only shooting herself in the foot.
Stop treating MMR as a goal or bragging rights. It's just matchmaking.
1 -
Nah, more of an incentive for an eye roll emoji

You've probably heard this before but I ######### love your name why is it so amusing hahaha

Lol, I was pixie to my friends in my 20's because I'm barely 5ft. The soylent came up when I was trying to think up a gamer tag and happened to be watching Soylent Green :D

And in what way do you think it's any better that they have even LESS requirements now to be considered to have done well. Now they also don't need to do gens, or heal. All they have to do is leave.
They took the emblem system, deleted 3 of the 4 categories you were graded on, and called it "skill based." I would have much prefered they made alterations to the emblems to better address issues than just give up entirely like they have.

So the major issues everyone is missing here... is that the MMR system is absolute crap in its current format. SBMM stands for SKILL BASED match making. Every person who played a few thousand hours knows this is absolute BS. Escaping a match is not an indication of being good or skilled.
I personally just play for fun and will do my best to get everyone out, having no regard for my own life. This more often than not ends up with me boosting 3 teammates and me ending up dead due to a NOED and nobody risking the rescue. 3 ppl got out because of me... but I died, so that must mean I suck and should lose MMR. GG.
As a result of the MMR being so incompetent at what it is supposed to do, you get wildly differing matches like the OP and other ppl mention. You get a solo lobby... 4k ez. Then you get a 4man SWF... steamrolled. There are no in between matches. Well... Some, but barely. As the solo lobby needs the luck of the draw to be put together with equally minded people. I've had such matches before, and they are glorious. Cause those are the only lobbies you could truely say some bravery and skill was involved to win a match.
Many people don't want to hear this, but it is the truth. The only way to fix the game is to remove the ability to play SWF, and after that balance the game towards the AVERAGE survivor. Not the casual survivor as it is now. Only then will MMR work the way it is supposed to. And only then will ppl enjoy the game again, the way it was supposed to be enjoyed, a more immersive way.
1 -
What?
You say immersing is low skill, yet you advocate for the system that calls immersing and doing absolutely nothing besides leaving a skilled performance, over the existing system which meant you HAD to contribute. You didn't have to contribute in every different categroy to scrape a pip, but you had to be doing significant things for the team. Now you can literally sit in lockers all game and the MMR system says you're doing a wonderful job.
It's cognitive dissonance at its finest. Dying vs escaping reflects pretty much zero about how you actually played and should not be the be all and end all of "skill."

These are the ppl that get the majority of a say in how the game gets developed. Go figure :) I couldn't have said it better than you did right there. I could add some of my personal experience to it tho.
Like... Whenever I play killer, I often see this 1 survivor that is so immersed, hides all game, never see them. Even when you have 2 ppl on hook on opposite sides of the map. They don't go for rescue, they are literally waiting for hatch. Since I personally don't care about 4k... These ppl usually get hatch. CONGRATZ you gained MMR for doing nothing! well done! rofl :D As the sole survivor of that match, you are the most skilled by far!

Gonna have to ratio you real quick

Pure genrushing never pipped anyone, I don't know what game you had been playing then. There are 4 categories of emblems, and doing gens only boosts one of them, which is never enough for a pip.

It’s been over 24 hours & nada. No bueno amigo. Deadline passed. I win. 😆

After a while it becomes easier to just assume all survivors are the worst and be safe, than to be friendly and be sorry.
I play selfishly when I'm solo, and I don't care about the Survivors fun when I am Killer. A lot different than I was starting out or when I started to be good at the game.

In addition, Evader isn't reliant on chases - a lot of it is based on proximity to the killer. You can easily get silver evader while doing a gen above/near the killer while somebody else is looping them, and you can get plenty more by crouching and hiding when they come to look for you.
That said, MMR does nothing to fix this issue and makes it easier for completely unproductive teammates to 'pip up' (versus the ones that progress objectives and understand how to win a game but avoid chase whenever possible, who would pip up but still lack vital game skills.)

It goes both ways. I've seen red rank 1s that play like low tier absolute garbage players, hiding and crouch walking, setting up boons over doing gens, being awful in chases, snowballing the game for the killer, waiting around not doing anything just to dive bomb a hook unsafely, etc. Its very clear these are the same people who SWF to red ranks and then think they're great players.
But there's also genuinely good players at red ranks of course.
And same can be said for killer although thats a lot less 50/50 since they rely on their own skill/playstyle and don't have teammates to back them up or even have comms.

Players that gen jockey aren't useless, though - not like the proverbial Blendettes. Yes, it's a problem when someone refuses to draw fire, and ######### goes down when everyone else has 2 hooks and they have 0, and it's also a problem when somebody goes down so fast they start a snowball, but having someone in the background handling gens and unhooks and heals is far from the worst thing that can happen in a solo team. The big issue was that they'd get to red ranks without learning how to occupy the killer - honestly, I'm a victim of this myself, I never got especially good at chases and I'm very bad at judging how much time I have left until the killer reaches me - and they'd be completely unprepared for killers at that level even if they knew the objectives and had decent decisionmaking.
They're not much less likely to escape now than they were to pip up, and the only reason it's not equal is because they're very dependent on what teammates solo queue gives them. They're not all-rounders. But they just need one or two teammates that can handle themselves in a chase and they'll do fine in medium MMR (and hopefully, against medium killers instead of highly experienced ones, they'll figure out looping.) The Blendettes drag down their whole team because they don't do anything period, so they have less of a shot at escaping through the gates unless the other three players are really good or the killer's exceptionally bad, but they had no chance of pipping up before and so they have the potential to climb higher than they did in the previous system. Also they start at the middle instead of the bottom, so it's way more common for average players to end up with them.

Hey whatever floats your boat man. I am sometimes tempted to go that route when the survivors are being massive BMing jerks, but I have this mental defiance thing where if I did end up letting them tilt me in a way that changes my default "chill and fun" playstyle I would feel like they've won and I can't let that happen *shakes fist at the air*
