Are Temporary Matchmaking Bans Too Strict?
DBD is not the only game to penalize you by placing a temporary ban on matchmaking for disconnecting from a match. While this promotes teamwork and fair game play and prevents rage quitting, it presents an issue with those who have mediocre internet service. For those people who love playing the game and hate letting down their team they are banned again and again for something out of their control. I've personally seen these bans go as high as 24 hours. Is that too strict a punishment for getting disconnected from your own internet?
Also may I ask why you feel that way?
This is how I feel:
Bans should be in place. It is not fair to your team to suddenly disappear, making the odds less even. However, personally, i play the game everyday and maybe get disconnected 3 times at most. Does that warrant not getting to play for an entire day? I do not believe so. Yes it lets my team down. Yes it brings the game down. But so do campers. And tunnelers. And even loopers. I do none of those things. I don't harass people. I give props. I say good game. I do nothing malicious. And yet I am banned for an entire day from a game that I absolutely love for something that is out of my control. DBD sholdn't be limited to those with less strict NAT settings. It should be for everybody.

When you play with poor internet, you're willingly putting other people at the mercy of your risk of disconnection. It results in unfair games for everyone who is matched with you because you could just vanish at any moment, which in turn hurts the experience of everyone involved. Not to mention if you're playing Killer and you disconnect, you waste everyone's time by putting Survivors through another queue.

The great majority of disconnects I see are immediately after downs, hooks or grabs. They’re not internet related. And when the DC penalties are off the number of ragequitters is ridiculous. So no, the DC penalty for multiple disconnects isn’t too harsh.

They are actually too soft. I don't care if you didnt' ragequit and it's because of your internet, you are screwing over your teammates when you dc whatever the reason might be and there should be a punishment that escalates the more you do it. If you have bad connection you shouldn't play a team multiplayer game.

I agree with this partly. I do think the number of rage quitters out number the poor internet connections greatly.
If I can play all day, three days straight, with only 3-4 disconnects I don't feel that I'm hurting anybody. I don't feel that warrants a whole day ban. I'm not constantly rage quitting. I'm not harassing anyone. I'm a fair player. I don't camp, I don't tunnel, I don't even loop. You have to wait for another queue, I have to wait a whole day. I love this game, and I know I'm not the only one. It shouldn't be restricted to those whose NAT settings aren't too strict. As dugman said, there are far too many more rage quitters anyways.

If I can play 100 matches only to get disconnected 3 times, why wouldn't I play? 97% of the time I get to be like everyone else and enjoy the game the way it was meant to be enjoyed except when yes I too, have to deal with someone disconnecting. Is it inconvenient? Yes. Do I think they're a huge baby for rage quitting? Yes. Do I think they're losers who shouldn't be allowed to play the game because their internet service isn't superior? No. A ban is important. An escalating ban is understandable. This harsh of a ban for disconnects is unjustified.

I say no because the vast majority of people who get those bans did so because they left/quit. However, your'e correct that it isn't fair. My cat spepped on the big button on the router and I got a ban, and I was laughing at how inefficient this system is. This problem exists in many games.

Anybody technically could disconnect at any moment, on accident or on purpose because life happens. That's a possibility going into all games.

I think there is a big difference between unforseeable disconnects and knowing that your internet is poor and that you can't manage a consistent, stable connection... besides that, I disconnect from badly-timed internet outages maybe once a month and, while it is annoying, I only ever receive a five minute matchmaking lock and I just pass the time by watching YouTube. It's really not that bad.
However, if you're disconnecting enough to be slapped with thirty minute or longer matchmaking locks on the regular, then you probably shouldn't be playing and should start looking into better internet and/or equipment.

I can play a whole day without disconnecting at all. Then I can play a day where I disconnect 3 times. Because those three times happen, the next time it happens I get a 24 hour ban. Is 24 hours really necessary? Better equipment is not always available to people. I have the best internet in my area. I don't have access to my router, therefore my NAT is too strict. Like I said before, I'm not going to quit playing because of the possibility out of 100 games it MIGHT disconnect 3 times.

Matchmaking Bans are not too Strict. But BHVR could develop the game to be a lot better at dealing with players who disconnect vs. people who suffer with unstable connection. Like if the game cannot detect an answer from the Server in regards if the other players disconnected, I am confident the Server is able to detect which player DCs, then the Client should be able to detect that too. perhaps the Game should display a message.
- The Entity has detected an unstable connection to the Fog, Please double check your equipment and make sure connection is in working order before attempting to rejoin the Fog. See: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/articles/AGuideToHelpYouTroubleshoot or seek help at https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/technical-issues
- Repeated disconnecting will temporarily lock you out of the fog to ensure fair sacrifice of other Survivors. This locking will escalate.

At least then we can say BHVR gives the people who need a hand, proper guidance. I don't approve of the current method which seems very short on actual guidance. I deal with tech support in my real life and I find Dead by Daylight lacking like so.

Okay... then you accept the possibility that you might receive a 24-hr ban. You would agree that people who rage-disconnect three times in a row should receive a hefty penalty, right? And there is no perfect way to differentiate between someone who's internet gives out and someone who pulls the plug on their router. There are a lot more people who would abuse a more lenient system than would be benefitting in an innocent manner, e.g. poor internet connection. However, that still really isn't a justification for a more lenient system, since you're still negatively impacting peoples' games on a regular basis through willfully playing with a dodgy connection.

I agree a ban should be in place. I think 24 hours is too strict, especially considering internet disconnections.

No, they only get really bad if you DC a lot, I never got more than 5 minutes.
If you have bad internet, well unfortunatly there is no single solution to every problem.

I just don't feel that occasionally is "a lot." Non-toxic behavior does not deserve that severe of punishment.

It's only happened to me once so far when I lost connection. Not my fault, which is why it was annoying. But it's brought to my attention that the technology for matchmaking can't determine accidental connection losses from deliberate ones... so I kinda understand.

I swear I'm going to die on this hill. I just got disconnected from a match (not me, other players) three times and while yes, annoying, do I think those players deserve to be banned a whole day over it? NO. When there are people out there openly cheating, harassing and showing constant bad sportsmanship and you want to ban someone for a whole day for dc? No.

If you dont have good internet then you probably cannot play the game even if there would be no dc penalty

The problem with me personally, is the NAT settings. Mine are too strict. That's what get's me disconnected. I can play the game fine. I played all day and night yesterday no problem. I've played all morning today, no problem. I love this game. I don't want to have to give it up because there's the smallest chance I may get disconnected, I just feel that getting a 24-hour ban for these disconnections is ridiculous.
