When you were a new player what's the dumbest thing you ever did/thought?
For me when I started the game and didn't understand it I used to think perks were useless and that the best perk in the game was Urban Evasion.

I thought that blight was a weak killer.

I got in a locker right in front of the killer

I used to think 'The Game' was a horrible map for survivor back when I started playing (Around the time plague came out)
0 -
If I crouched really hard in that corner, the killer wouldn't see my bright red Rooster shirt.

I know I can't be the only one but I truly believed Insidious made you invisible. Worse I ran it on Wraith.

If its a phasing spirit, your hypothesis would be correct.

I thought the Myers was friendly.
He was not friendly.
14 -
I use to think killer were strong.
And this is not a noob mistake but when they say they were reworking freddy i was sure they would never change freddy core gameplay i was never so wrong in my entire life. I still miss my favorite killer and the reason i bought the game

Like a typical new meg, I walked around everywhere to not use SB.

Just slightly after my "new player" time.
(Achievements are the most accurate measurement I have for when I started playing; I believe it was a month before this, where I played it once then never again for a month until December when I was harassed into playing again)

My first review says it all about me as a new player:
"I didnt know how the shape worked so when he was just staring at me I thought he was friendly.. He wasnt" - ChickenNoodleSoup

Didnt know fast vaulting into lockers alerted the killer of my location, and always wondered how they always knew I was in there
I also thought hook states were tied to health states in the way that if I fully healed myself after I've been hooked,I would still be on my first hook state (Looking back I have no idea why I thought this)

back in the day, Trapper used to have an iridescent Add On called "Diamondstone", which was the guaranteed to be working version of the Honingstone (which back then had a 50% chance to down any Survivor who escaped a trap), and which would later be renamed & reworked to be the Iridescent Stone we have today.
the description of that Add On stated it would inflict dying on whoever escapes a trap - which lead to me assuming that my traps would literally kill whoever stepped on them. No, not down them when they escape, outright kill them as in "permanently removed from the match".
i remember avoiding using this Add On because i thought that A: it was way too strong and B: i had exactly one of them and thought it would be too precious to "waste".
it took me way too long to notice my mistake xD

Oh, I have a few good ones.
- I once thought that Urban Evasion and Bitter Murmur were the best perks to see on the bloodweb.
- In my first few survivor matches, I'd bring flashlights because I thought that it would allow me to see in the dark.
Let me think of some of my other day-one misconceptions
0 -
Noed and Myers have perma wall hacks because of Expose
0 -
Ha I used to think Bitter Murmer was meta.
1 -
I would try to blind killers while in a chase with them.
0 -
That it was ok to just stand there and let Mikey stare at you.
0 -
Tbf, Gideons was killer sided before he rework...mostly.
1 -
I thought you could only heal teammates with a medkit. Had a lot of people follow me around t-bagging/emoting and never understood why.
1 -
I didn't know crows could give away your location if you stood/crouched in the same place for a long time.
I also could not figure out how to do skill checks on generators. It took my nine-year old cousin to point out to me that there was an "LB" in the middle of the skill check zone and that you had to hold on to "RB" as you hit "LB." Before that, so many of my teammates had signaled me to go away and I would put myself into what I called "the locker of shame" for a time-out.

The first time I ever found a skeleton key in a chest, I hid in the basement the entire game because I thought it was super rare and I didn’t wanna lose it LOL, I didn’t even know how to use it, I saw pink and went “woooow!”
1 -
I think i never used windows during chases.
And when i tried Killer for the first time, It never occurred to me to look for survivors around a gen or just look for them carefully around.
The whole match I walked all over the map but i could not find a single survivor. embarrassing 😅

I refused to use Spinechill over Premonition. I never believed others who said Spinechill was better and never really gave it a go. I was thinking "Wow you can actually pin point the killers location with Premonition while to use Spinechill they have to actually look AT YOU... so bad". I really refused to use it.
A few years later and I've now got Spinechill in my main perk build... it's fair to say it is indeed far superior to Premonition.

Ahhh good ol premonition. That used to be a standard for me too I would run it with Urban Evasion, Kindred and Balanced landing

Oh, remembered another one. Jane was one of the first survivors I had, since I bought Demise of the Faithful with the game. Newbie-me could not figure out how to use Head On because I didn't know how to do a rushed action. I kept gently exiting lockers right in front of the killer.
2 -
I thought BT was terrible. 15 seconds of invincibility when the killer is already chasing someone else? Useless I thought
0 -
When I was new I thought this was a decent game. Dumbest mistake I made
1 -
Not looking behind me. Biggest mistake I've ever made.

For a little while I played without headphones. I didn't realize how important good headphones actually are for killer in this game, it's like night and day!
0 -
When I started playing I didn't understand health states and thought equipping different weapons affected the amount of damage inflicted.
0 -
I thought Urban Evasion was necessary and crouch-walked everywhere all the time.
0 -
I didn't understand the Doctor's power / add-ons. He had the add-on to have the red stain and terror radius on you so I thought I was being chased for a while (also before I started panning my camera to look back so I never looked behind me). I ended up throwing pallets everywhere because I was being "chased". I also panic vaulted a window cuz I just saw a brief appearance of Doc who I thought was just staring at me without knowing he could make illusionary mirrors of himself and hid.
Doc really tripped me up ngl and he was one of the first killers I went against in this game. I bet my teammates and the killer just watched me go around throwing pallets lololol

I thought running into a locker and fast vaulting didn't give loud noise notifications.
0 -
Oh man...
Where do I even start?
- I facecamped. Every game. On Bubba. In my defense, it was when killers had no matchmaking protection and I was getting clobbered game after game and I didn't know that 3 hooks autokilled survivors. I thought that they had to stay on the hook for a certain duration.
- I thought that I had to break every pallet and kick every gen.
- I thought that different survivors moved at different speeds.
- I thought that Unrelenting was a brilliant perk.
- I had no idea what pallet stuns were, I thought the survivors were attacking me somehow.
1 -
I thought you were supposed to attempt escape because you attempt escape in the tutorial. I was a 2 hook kill for so long. 😂
I thought exposed meant killer could see your aura on top of being 1 hit.
I thought in order to use DS you needed to have an item in your hand because it says "Using whatever is at hand, you stab your aggressor." I didn't see point in ever using it because I didn't want to rely on having an item - this was when using up your item it disappeared and I also ran into alot of Franklin's.
I didn't know BT was a perk and couldn't figure out why sometimes people would unhook me in front of the killer and I'd need to mend after getting hit but other times I went down. I'd make unsafe unhooks thinking that's what you were supposed to do.

I thought Hag teleported to me whenever I stepped on the trap. And I didn't even know traps are there nor I did something wrong. I nearly got a heart attack.
I thought obsession being chased had something to do with thanatophobia.
0 -
Well, this is probably something many people thought when they first started playing, but when I was new, back in June 2016, I thought that hitting people on the hook as Killer made them die faster... So for a good week I kept doing that...
In my defense, we were all new back then and still learning, so things like this were happening constantly.
3 -
I thought Pig head pops were more common
My first ever kill was a head pop
0 -
I just remembered another one -
I would stand and kick a generator over and over because I thought that's how it worked. I didn't realize you had to hold the button until the generator actually got damaged.
I can't imagine what survivors thought of me kicking a generator for like 30 seconds, then running off without ever actually damaging it.

I used to think that Cannibal is strongest killer in the game. And I unironicaly thought that he is Pay to Win killer.

I thought facing walls protected you from flashlights. I found a new religion and became a child of Lightborn. Sorry Buddha, it was fun while it lasted, but papa enjoys his vision.
0 -
I thought that Hatch spawns at start of the match and I dropped the game to find it and open with a green key.
0 -
Dbd was my first PC game and i were walking all the game. The killer surely was thinking ez kill lol
0 -
I also was a big fan of Unrelenting because I used to miss 66% of my attacks.
1 -
Jumping on the Hatch while being chased by a Doctor was perfectly safe.
Back then, it was not.

Let's see:
* Was playing Trapper and got all hooks sabotaged. Tried too hook all survivors in the basement, but they was wiggling out (long time ago).
* Didn't know how to grab and interrupt, was just body blocking near the hook.
* In early game descended into basement as Ace against the Huntress.
* Used Plunderer's Instinct perk to get heap of items, occasionally not saving others, just to get one more toolbox. Never used any of that hoard, since accidentally hit prestige. Sorry to all sacrificed teammates :)

I thought killer was the power role.
3 -
sooo.
I never read freddy's power so i would just swing on the survivors and not injure them lol
this was on freddy's release day.
0 -
I would've probably done that too, if I hadn't read his power before the match started.
My very first killer match...Old Freddy on old Torment Creek.
