Why do we have an issue with NFTs again? (answered)
Like, the shadiness is not something I approve of, but why do we dislike NFTs?
Side note: I mean this in the nicest way possible: you can stop arguing now.

Mostly cause of the high energy cost associated with them.
It's not really enviromental friendly.

Right in short
- You don't own the image
You have no legal rights to whatever NFT you purchased, it's simply a link to a receipt saying you own it while everyone else can use it for free.
- Energy consumption
It takes a lot of energy to transfer crypto, a lot of energy to mine it, and a lot of energy to store it, as well as a lot of energy to sell the NFTs. All of this energy, most of which is coal power (if you don't know, very bad for the environment) is being essentially wasted because you might as well just buy the actual image.
- Money laundering
NFTs are usually used as a money laundering scheme, purchasing one with dirty money, selling it for clean money, and basically meaning the theft can't be tracked
- No guarantee
Servers shut down? Out of luck, no more NFT for you. Someone doesn't give you the NFT after you've paid? Out of luck you have no legal rights. URL to the receipt expired? People can replace it with malware for free and you lose access to the NFT
- Way of rich people flexing on poor people, again
They serve no purpose except to let rich people flaunt their wealth.

Because they're an environmentally harmful way of saying "look, I have a certificate saying I own this jpeg". But the file itself can be copied regardless, so it doesn't do anything.

A lot of things are environmentally damaging. Most of those things are more important then an nft though.
I don't know the exact numbers but i know it's not a small amount of wasted energy. It's very large for how pointless nft's actually are.
Other people can probably explain it better though. I didn't even know what they were before the whole pinhead debacle.

NFTs and cryptocurrency rely on an extremely complicated mathematical process for the entire chain of transaction and ownership back to their creation, in order to work as both a ledger of who owns what and means of verifying that, yes, this electronic marker has changed ownership--and to prevent anybody from faking it.
But, this takes enormous computing power. Consider that a modern GPU can use up to 350W, and the setups for these (though generally not using those monsters exclusively) are basically computers with half a dozen GPUs. And then crypto miners fill rooms with them. It adds up, worldwide, to using gigawatts of power on nothing productive.

Even if you bring the underlying tech that NFTs use up to environmental and legal standards, NFT's are basically a gateway for legal lootboxes and gambling because lobbyists are going to try to push the narrative that given their "non-fungibility" they are "physical goods" or a "service".

Just because one thing is wasteful, doesn't justify other forms of waste.
Also, I guess food waste can occur sometimes inadvertently, but we all need to eat food, so people are going to keep wasting food. There is no core human need, like hunger, that applies to owning NFTs.

well, I wasn't saying to waste food, I just meant that I don't know the scope of the energy wasted by NFTs, but I do know the scope of food waste. (most of it is at the production stage, so not wasting it is out of my hands)

Fair, ignore my first sentence I guess. My main point is that we have to eat food, and food waste is just something that occurs.
We don't have to have blockchain based proof of ownership of things (I suppose NFTs are different to using encryption for something like protecting your bank details, and they're also more wasteful). So NFTs don't meet any fundamental human need (like food does), but they have a massive environmental impact.
Also, who said food waste isn't a taboo? Most sensible people try not to do it.

After learning about what nfts are, they anger me too, and I'm also disappointed in bhvr for doing this.
However, I don't see where any of that I effecting gameplay. Am I missing something?

It won't have any impact on your gameplay, but it will on the enviroment and LEDCs where electronic waste is dumped. Think long-term and globally in terms of effects, not just how you personally are effected, because the impacts are so much greater.

Basically lots and lots of energy usage for nothing productive towards society, far too great of a cost for literally nothing, most of which involves burning fossil fuels, which as we've known for years is very bad for the enviroment due to the amount of CO2 it releases, which in turn accellerates the global climate crisis.

I dont think that the "energy cost" argument works very well either, as it doesnt really make a whole lot of sense, due to people buying energy from energy companies. By this logic, people should be upset at the energy company for selling the energy, not the user.
Oh, people are angry at energy companies, as well as oil companies, gas companies, etc. However, we can also be angry at the people who purchase this energy which could be used to, oh I don't know, power the entirety of Argentina and instead use it to purchase copy/paste monkeys that look like #########.
Just for the record- a single NFT transaction can power on average one US home for a day and a half. Thousands of these happen each day. The daily usage of energy for these is on average to 25 days worth of power for a US home. Source:

Burden of proof is a basic concept of argument. If you cannot demonstrate that the claim you are making is true, then the claim cannot be taken seriously. So you either demonstrate that the people stating to have issue are pretending as per your claim, or your original post that "we don't" is wrong.

Burden of proof isn't exclusively used in Courts. It's a basic concept of an argument- if you make a claim, you prove it. There are very few exceptions to this rule.
