Stretched resolution on Killers AND Survivors
If you dont know what this exactly is you may wanna dodge this thread. To all other ppl:
I think we came to the point where a good half of the playerbase uses this kind of modification. I think this is very unhealthy for the game and destroys the fun of most of the Killers or Survivors. I believe that BHVR should do something against it JUST like modding back then.
You can stretch your screen as survivor horizontal to see over loops so there is no mindgame anymore from the Killer part which is just busted and should not be allowed in the first place.
Killers however can also stretch their screens so for example on a Nurse you dont have any downsides. You know when you get the fatigue stun as Nurse you look down with a black screen for a short moment to give the survivors abit of time to maybe break line of sight and add abit of skill play to Nurse.
Well you can just go around it by stretching your screen that much that you still see everything infront of you and now slap on some reshade to get rid off the black screen of the fatigue and bam you have no downside after a blink fatigue. Same goes to Blight where you stretch your screen to the left and right so much that you dont really need to look around while you rush cuz you simply see everything.
I think both sides get an very disgusting and unhealthy way of advantage for using 3th party programs and this should come to an end slowly, its just boring and sad. Yes I know that its for free and I or anyone can do that aswell but that is not the point, in other games you get banned straight for using those kind of things, I am suprised that BHVR allows it or atleast doesnt do anything against it.
Small addition, you can also use Reshade on Nvidia or other programs to increase the colors of the game so the color red for example is way more visable which makes it for the Killer easier to see blood and scratch marks which is also an advantage you can get.
If you still are not convinced that these methods are not unfair advantages then you simply are delusional or just trying to defend it cuz you use these things yourself. I am not talking about ppl who increase their FOV slightly to get the Shadowborn effect slightly, I wouldnt do it myself but this isnt a big problem imo. However stretching your screen to just look over tiles or see 200% more on your edges of the screen is basicly cheating.

I am willing to know which games bans people for stretching the screen as you mentioned since it's the main resource to fix resolution for wide monitors

"I think we came to the point where a good half of the playerbase uses this kind of modification."
Stopped reading at this point tbh, where is your proof for this claim? I'd assume it would be much, much lower. There's not as many sweats in this game as you think, it just feels like that if you raise your MMR.

Overwatch, CSGO tournaments ban it, not the general ranked play though. I believe Fortnite aswell
4 -
Almost my entire friendlist of 100 ppl almost uses it and I met alot of ppl using it, I see it on alot of streamrs, a good 6/10 streamers I get in my lobby are using these modifications.
Also its fine if you dont want to read this post but you also have no proof that ppl are NOT using it so ye.

I'm not so much worried that for example nurses are using stretch res. it is beneficial sure, but not by a crazy amount. Compared to a lot of survivors using it when you are playing killer is absolutely horrible. There are plenty of loops with high walls and it is so obvious when someone is using stretch res. As they perfectly loop you 10x around the same wall, cause they know perfectly where you are at all times. This is not intended gameplay and shame on you for anyone using the excuse of "it looks better".

agree

I think it needs to at least not interfere with revealing ghostface. bare minimum, if it does that, it's cheating.
also, it's ugly. so ugly.

true xD Looks like Dbd mobile version

Those are not devs bans examples, and fortnite has applied a forced aspect ratio in most cases possible, but no one bans their playerbase for having a different resolution to most while it could be the base native of an squared or wide monitor
0 -
I do know some ppl in Overwatch got banned for that for sure, on fortnite I am not too sure cuz someone just told me about it but I havent looked it up really but I was told that it is also not allowed thats why I assumed it

FYI Notqueen mentioned at some point a while back that the devs do consider using stretched res to see over obstacles to be an exploit. And Dowsey at one point mentioned that Fog Whisperers were told a while back that using stretched res could be considered a violation of the program.
Obviously they haven’t put in a technical fix to stop it, but they do consider it to be cheating.

You are the one making the thread stating this as if it is fact. The burden of proof falls to the person making the claim. That is how science works and also how the justice system works. You can't argue your point by saying I can't falsify it the other way, it doesn't strengthen your point.
Secondly, your sample here (your friends list) is a bit biased. You just might tend to make friends with the type of people that use exploits.
1 -
Oh and also, I CAN prove that people are not using it. You've claimed half of players use it, probably over half of the players of the game are on consoles and not even on PC, therefore your claim that 50% of the player base is using it, is disproven.
GG

ye cuz it makes sense to include console players who cannot even do that in this assumption, big brain you got there
0 -
ok but that does nothing with my comment

Maybe I misunderstood you but you seemed to be under the impression that the original poster was asking about something the devs don't consider to be cheating. I was just pointing out that's not the case.

There is actually a way for the game to detect if stretched res is used by a survivor.
They can reveal ghostface over a wall so add an invisible wall with a invisible ghostface behind it outside of normal collision and if they can look over it you know stretched res is used.
(Not my idea, another forum member came up with this)

Thats a cool idea but I believe it shouldnt be possible at all do look over jungle gym walls xD Thats the point of them beeing walls not small random loops..
0 -
That's the thing if you detect a survivor is using stretched res with this then you can have proof to issue warnings or bans.
This is mostly theory crafting though. This would be very risky to put it in the game now with all the hackers about
1 -
I simply said devs don't ban players from their games because they stretched the screen when it's native for some and needed for wide monitors
1 -
I refuse to use stretch res, so please don't generalize towards "all pc players". Some PC players still have dignity and respect for the way the game was intended to be played. It is a handfull of kids that do it, and they can ruin a killers game if that killer does not notice it fast enough. As in Chases take way too long.
I usually detach fast when I notice them looping perfectly around high walls, it is just too obvious. But when they are in SWF, it is usually already too late. you lost valuable time there and 3 gens will pop. Then you have to hope the next guy you find does not have it, otherwise game over.

I take back my words as I just played against a stretch screen nurse. I watched his stream and it is even more disgusting than I thought it was... HOLY MOLY WHAT THE HELL IS THAT...
So I officially take back my words and will now say "ALL stretch screen users are losers and cheaters".
Sadly by posts like this, more people will become aware of this massive advantage and try it out themselves... RIP honest&fair games. As far as I am concerned, they can ban this #########. But I am pretty sure there is no way to detect a custom resolution.
1 -
Yeah, I don’t know that they can detect changing PC graphics settings, they’d probably need to have the program force specific aspect ratios or something similar. My guess is if this was easy to do, though, they’d have done it by now.

Nearly everything you said is incorrect.
It would take every PC user using stretched res to equal half of the entire playerbase using stretched res. And not even the entire comp community uses stretched res. The community associated with stretched res is closer to the 50% mark than the entire playerbase.
That's not at all how stretched res works on Nurse or Blight. It does not delete the downside of fatigue. You still look down. Stretched res on killer brightens the game a bit and makes it easier to see at a distance as well as over some tiles. Same as survivor.
It's not a 200% fov increase in any event. I'd equate it more to 10%. Sometimes that 10% is everything, but it's not the reason killers lose half the time.

Those are banned for use in tournament or else you get DQ'd. I haven't seen a game where stretching you screen just outright bans you.
0 -
I played against a streaming Stretch nurse yesterday and he had almost ZERO blacked out screen during fatigues due to that stretch. I know when I play Nurse versus that boon totem, I sometimes lose ppl because of the blackout during fatigue. So that is surely something to add to your list there. That is cheating massively.
1 -
The worse one is "i need it to run the game" You are rendering MORE pixels by using stretched res compared to the equivalent 16:9 resolution and it fully invalidates that argument.
0 -
Guess now you see why I even made this threat xD
0 -
exactly, I meant in in tournaments specific there but what I am trying to tell is the other games are also not welcoming it at all and even ban ppl for a few days/weeks as a warning if they get too many reports since its also considered cheating for them. That is the whole point

So why not add a roof to each tile so it can't be looked over even with stretch rez? if people claim it just looks better and thats why they use it then this shouldn't be an issue, right?
0 -
The worst part is that the streamer was the stereotypical Russian. "I so good, you so bad" trash talking type, all that as he is cheating his a** of like crazy.
0 -
well thats the funny thing.
- why should the game designer change stuff in the game to work around a 3th party programne that is not fully legal anyway to use on a game?
- The issue is that you still get a huge advantage against your opponent since you cannot mindgame players who use stretched resoltion.
0 -
Just a heads up it's not a 3rd party program that does this, and they should do it cause it's their game? like wouldn't banning people for using it do the same thing? Like that would still be the devs doing something about it.
I understand that it gives an unfair advantage, hence the potential fix via roof could just make it so it doesn't work....

It JuS7 L00k5 B3773r
1 -
idk how you think it works but using reshade and nvidia to alter your game options is a 3th party program
0 -
You can literally just edit the game files without extra software.
0 -
But not on console, they're locked up tight.
0 -
I just assumed we were talking about PC only anyway. I don't use console for anything, so I wouldn't know for sure or not. Glad it's not something console can do as well tho
0 -
We can't no, just like no filters, sound cards, graphics options, M&K, none of it. No frames above 30 for us peasants still on prior gen machines as well.
Seems fair right?

That's super unfortunate, I only started hearing about the performance issues after RPD, the fact that it's still a ######### show sucks.
