Just curious, does anybody know anybody that has been banned or suspended due to gameplay abuse?

Just faced a really nasty camping Bubba. He got the 4k, and then proceeded to insult all the survivors in the post-game chat.

It's okay, I've been around Dead by Daylight long enough to know that I just gotta accept these every now and then. I'm a DbD dumb monkey brain and addicted to playing, so I'll keep disrespecting myself and playing the game. But, like any good monkey brain, I did my part and reported his profile for insults and gameplay abuse.

Out of curiosity, I checked out his Steam Profile, and there are many people who have left scathing angry comments. So I can't imagine that I'm the first to report him.

Which forces me to ask -- if THIS guy isn't getting banned or suspended, who is? Is the reporting feature in DbD just a visage? Does anybody know anybody EVER who has gotten banned/suspended? What did they do to get that?

Well, there’s gameplay abuse, and there’s facecamping.

As much as I hate it with a burning passion, I must admit that they are technically not breaking any rules. They just use what they have at their disposal, which in effect just kills the game for at least 1 player. The survivor on the hook will die, therefore the game is not held hostage. It’s scummy for sure, but technically not ‘illegal’, for the lack of a better word.

Thanks for responding, @MandyTalk ! Really appreciate it; this is good to know. It sucks to be camped, but I get that it's not breaking of a rule. Just very frustrating and very not fun :)

The insults were not in any of the categories you're specifying, just things like, 'get gid' and 'get out of your mom's basement'. You know, the way gamers speak to one another.

Anyway, I appreciate the response and will get back into the fog!

Why not just permanently ban - or disallow chat at the very minimum - for everything in your list except generic insults? We don’t need anymore of those kind of people in the DbD community. Or anywhere for that matter.

Because if I'm understanding what your asking it turns into an unending arms race. Like when Grape was banned from I think it was the WoW forums because people were using it as a substitute.

The honestly best way to deal with it is for people to report it. Banning words literally never works. Punishing bad behaviour has better results.

I've gone against more then my fair share of players like this on both sides, and like Mandy said, camping isn't gameplay abuse. (Even if it is boring as sin for everyone involved, but it is a necessary evil.)

I will say though, the in-game report system needs some help. Like, major help.

Do the team make sure to distinguish between actual death threats and comments such as "why didn't you ######### quicker?". Sounds awful out of context but that kind of comment could be referring to someone waiting for the hatch and wondering why the 2nd last survivor didn't die faster on the hook.

That's why I make sure if I ever comment something that could be taken out of context I mention e.g. a game mechanic such as a hook.

I've seen single case who got banned because of plentiful reports.

Of course, those reports weren't problematic at all.

The person was using VPN with high ping (connected to NA from Korea) which offered some profits those days.

And deliberately bodyblock with Bond, hide in locker all along, drop all pallets shown by Windows, spam-unhook which makes hooked person die.

Don't know whether he was cheap in after game chat.

Guess what? He got banned eventually.

Other than this case, I haven't seen anyone got banned because of camp or tunnel stuff.

But accumulated reports with Trolling and few insult words can ban the person possibly.

yes we do take great care with these things, if there's the slightest doubt the ban wouldn't be issued. We only ban with 100% certainty.

Honestly, I'd be happier with some stronger moderation of chat and sportsmanship.

One of the two things that makes DbD a bit of a hard sell is the ingame community - particularly people who will be gloating jerks in victory. The internet is the internet sure, but even if you have a rhinoceros hide it...wears on you over time.

League of Legends had a similar issue with toxicity, and managed to achieve a remarkable turnaround with the Summoner Code and the Tribunal. Something like 80% of players reformed after a simple 'you've been getting a lot of reports, please keep an eye on your behavior' warning.

I wonder if one day we will have a Behavior (lul) Code and something perhaps to encourage better sportsmanship. This game...brings out the worst in people.

My best example would be a recent game I played versus a TTV squad who refused to complete the final gen and spent 30 minutes (!) teabagging and flicking me, and the second I downed someone they'd sabo, bodyblock etc. and make it literally impossible to hook. They came to the game with this intent due to their loadouts.

Eventually I just gave up and AFKed, and when they finally ended the game they said they'd be mass reporting me for 'non participation'. Argh.

I know that it totally removed my desire to play another game, and I can only imagine new players running into behavior like this and just bailing.

This is a great point. I think there is a balance to achieve. There's what is considered "legal" and "illegal" per the rules of the game (i.e. camping), and there's what's considered "legal, but dirty". Perhaps there's room for conversation to flag an account if they've received a certain amount of reports per hour played, or something like that. If even just to reach out to them and see what's going on.

The danger is in the game supporting/allowing nasty behavior and driving people away from the game or even out of the game altogether. Not necessarily me, because I am an addicted monkey brain, but thinking of the new free to play community coming in through Epic Games.

No rules broken so nothing to report.

No, there isn't any room. Unless we're going to 'flag' people for doing things Killers dislike, too. This is just garbage players trying to get revenge because they lost. And nobody's being driven away. the game's player count has remained steady or risen since it's inception aside from a few dips, and I was one of the players who actively tried to get people to boycott the game many times. It barely worked.

I receive your words. I tend to really really get nervous when it comes to any sort of behavior policing (pun intended).

Yeah. I feel that, and I appreciate your very reasonable response. Those are hard to get on these forums.

No. I insulted so many people and never got anything. So i do not even care to report anybody.

After TTV streamer brings iridescent map, removes all 5 totems to prevent NOED (and there was noed). He don't need to bee surprised to hear, that his SWF is toxic and all they did feels like a cheating ;)

there are videos of Monto and Noob3 in which they used an exploitable spot that allowed them to drop on top of the generator in Ironworks of Misery (its been fixed a long time ago), which got all of them banned.

so yes, abusing broken gameplay like that does indeed get you banned.

HOWEVER, what you're describing in your OP is someone camping a hook. that is not considered an exploit or "gameplay abuse", its a legitimate strategy a Killer can do when they wish to (and it can be quite effective, based on how the Survivors play around it).

there is nothing bannable or wrong with someone camping.

  • Should not have said that at all I'm afraid... in no way can that be acceptable or helpful to anyone
