Would you add a vocal chat, in game, for survivors?

Balance wise, since SWF have an info advantage against solo q, it might sound smart to create a vocal chat so that advantage disappears. And then, you'd be able to make killers viable against anything.

But, on another note, since survivors are pretty entitled and easily triggered... would it be really good to add a vocal chat if it creates more toxicity while in game? That is what i'm worried about, and why i'm a bit against it.

What's your thoughts?

Hell no. I hate voice chat with randoms.

A ping system would be great though.

best case scenario i freeze up and say nothing, worst case i get called a slur or misgendered because this game's playerbase is horseshit and i sound like a guy

That would tear the game apart bad enough have the console users oin mute on PC

Voice chat or ping system is basically Kindred on steroids - which means ever killer is getting genrushed in 4 minutes unless survivors are really, really not smart.

While I agree that this would close the gap between SWF and solo... This would increase toxicity by 400% at least (Just watch at all the raging streamers... you want to hear all of this in your games?) and the buffs to killers to compansate this should have to be huge... or maps would have to be completely changed - either remove half of tiles (which is bad, because survivor killer interaction is the most fun part during the trail) or add even more gens to repair (which is bad too, because three gen will be even easier to acomplish and noobs will be stomped even harder, not to mention actual holding m1 on gen is the most boring part of the game without the old ruin).

I must say that i'm a bit surprised, i thought i would be in the minority not wanting a vocal chat to be added. That is definitely interesting.

I mean I would not use it ever cause anxiety but it could work for making killers more viable cause solos can't say they can't communicate if that really works or you have a bunch of moaning trolls is on another page

TF2 style "callout" system or more emotes could be fun, but I don't need randos being jerks while I'm trying to play.

The devs have said a few times they don’t want to add local chat because they don’t want players who dislike chat to have them feel it’s forced on them.

We could always have options to mute people if we are realistic. Its rather the screaming at each other that would be the problem.

Definitely not. I have bad anxiety, so talking to random players is a no.

To begin with it: Comms are an unfair advantage.

Kindred, Bond, empathy, maps, stealth killer, setup killer...The whole game is based around the lack of communications.

The problem is that there is swf that use external help to have comms. So its a bit strange to ignore that and balance the game only towards solo q survivor with no comms. (Even if i do agree that adding a vocal chat wouldn't be a good thing for this game in my opinion).

    If it's voice chat, no.

If it's scroll wheel comms, sure, anything to make solo queue more bearable. Obviously we'll buff killer to compensate for that, though.

I accidentally voted yes, but no. I don't like to talk to strangers in games.

voice chat would make my game so much better. I would love to be able to tell the others where the killer is without having to message on xbox or invite to the party, because then after every game I would have to kick them and add other people

Just to clarify, I don't personally care either way about voice chat, I'm just saying I doubt the devs will ever add it since they said why they didn't want to include it.

I was more thinking of a a vocal chat for survivors only and that doesn't care about distance; my bad i should have explained it.

no. This game was never built for communication. The only circumstance that i will allow this is if they nerf survivors gen speeds, meta perks, shrink maps.) If not, No lol.

Here, I don't have to listen to people shouting at their friends, shouting at their kids, shouting at their mom, being shouted at by their mom, chomping, crunching potato chips, slurping carbonated beverages, burping into a mic, farting into a mic, listening to their awful music, listening to bigoted opinions, listening to non-bigoted opinions and having to make small-talk. Also there are rules here, people have to communicate with eachother with some sort of decency.

That would be a mess in europe with people speaking french, english, spanish, german, turkish, russian, etc...

And there would be a huge issue with people trolling and abusive language. I don't want that feature and if it was in the game, I would disable it.

You seem to have spun the main positive that would come of such a change, as a negative.

Back when I was a noobie, I just assumed that this was a feature. I used to play a lot of Warzone, before I worked out that games are supposed to be fun, and obviously it's a feature there. I was a very happy bunny when my SQ games turned out to be silent. I think that "I don't want to speak to internet people.", sums up my feelings nicely.

A chat system would close the gap between SQ and SWF though, which would be fantastic for the game. Not fantastic enough to outweigh the downsides though IMO. From a game balancing POV, reducing that gap would huge. Let's not mislead ourselves by pretending that balancing the game would mean any large changes either. One tiny change such as making gens take 5% longer to complete. You wouldn't even notice it.

I would say chatting randoms is a no no but what if your on switch or other things like in your party but you can only voice chat in a party with SWF for sure.

Voice chat is entirely unnecessary, completely strips the game of its tone and atmosphere, increase the separation gap in cross-platform players specifically between PC and Console players who aren't super-likely to be playing with mics anyway, and as many others have mentioned would undoubtedly facilitate a heaping ton of toxicity in the game.

It's also something I believe the devs have made clear their staunch opposition to in the past, so regardless of community opinion I don't think it would happen anyway.

Despite this though, the gap between solo and SWF players still remains a significant one. But there are better ways to solve that issue than integrating a voice-chat mechanic. A quick chat function for example would be great, you press a button and a HUD pulls up with many different basic callout options, like "heal me!" "I'll repair this generator" "help me repair this generator!" "Save [Meg]!" "I'm being chased! Watch out!!" etc. so on and so forth.

A unique pinging system for DBD could be created by revealing auras instead of a standard First Person Shooter ping system as well. Perhaps it only highlights auras for other survivors who are in a certain proximity, and perhaps the quick chat itself (to tone it back just a little bit) also operates on a proximity system as well. Maybe killers could also see the messages being sent in proximity quick chat as well, so survivors have to be careful and wary about how and when they use it.

But even outside of these fundamental game changing additions to the core mechanics of DBD- there are other ways of bridging the gap between solo and SWF players. Making Kindred basekit for example is an idea that's kind of on the table, though it has been hotly contested (and if that were to happen, it likely wouldn't come with all the effects of Kindred the perk, it'd be more like a nerfed form of kindred that would be made basekit) but ideas of that nature are the ones that are more likely to happen. Working with existing DBD mechanics to bridge that gap rather than creating something brand new (although that doesn't necessarily make it better, it's just more realistic to envision).

I do not mean voice in general when saying yes but I would like it if there was a way for communication
