Still Don't Understand MMR
I tried consulting the Discord, but people were extremely cruel and insulting. So I'm going to try asking here.
I still don't understand MMR. I am sitting at iri 2 and I've lost over 5 games with zero kills at all. I haven't lost any pips at all. So I'm wondering when my MMR will get low enough that I will start being paired with groups that are easier to go against. Low MMR equals being matched with others with low MMR, right?
So what's the deal? I'm busting my behind like a mofo and I still can't get any progress toward iri 1.
Please help me here with some guidance.

Ranks/Grades aren't the same as your MMR.
MMR is not visible to anyone and as killer you will get higher MMR with kills, and lose MMR points with escapes, so the more people you kill, the higher your MMR will get.

Thank you for making that clear. But that did not answer the important part of my question.

I am well aware that Grade has nothing to do with MMR.
However, a less skilled player will have a lower MMR. And if I've lost so many games in a row, then when is my MMR supposed to be low enough to play against people I am better matched with instead of being destroyed by diehard survivors every single match?

Some people might purposely lower their MMR by dying at end game collapse since escaping is the only way to boost survivor MMR. They do this to get easier games

Your rank/grade, for you to pip you need to get high scores in your emblems that show up at the end of the match.
As killer you have gatekeeper, chaser, devout and malicious. The wiki explains more about them: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Emblems

I don't know why I can't get a straight answer here. lmao. like, is it really that complex?
As soon as I got to iri 2, I have lost every single match i've played. I mean I have not killed ANYONE and I haven't gotten more than a single hook, IF THAT, in any game i've played now.
You think that's fair or encouraging? Not at all. I'm so frustrated that I almost don't want to play anymore. There's got to be a way to make the games more fair. Because if I'm expected to lose every single match from this point forward until reset, then the imbalance is enough to get me to quit playing.

seriously? lol. That told me nothing.

It’s actually not necessarily true that less skilled players have lower Grades or that high skill players have higher Grades. Grades are mainly a reflection of how many matches you’ve played in a month. A veteran player who just doesn’t happen to play much this month can be an excellent player with a high hidden MMR but a low Grade. And similarly someone who is terrible at the game despite playing a ton this month can manage to work their way to red Grade despite their MMR remaining low (since they are probably facing a lot of similarly low MMR opponents and still getting wins off them.) And I’ve personally seen a few red Grade players on streams who clearly didn’t actually know what they were doing (messing up doing vaults, running in totally straight lines with no jukes, not watching for the killer on generators, or as a killer just running past survivors in the open and so on). If I had to guess for instance there are kids who play the game a ton but who, being kids, just sometimes aren’t as good as the young adults who play a lot as well because they don’t have the same mental focus.
So while grades are probably correlated somehow with the MMR it’s not a perfect relation.

I honestly have no idea what you want to know then.

old rank or new grade aren't linked to MMR. The grade is used for a monthly pittance of points and bragging you did a little something useful a minimum number of times. They function like a checkpoint so you only go up until reset hits.
MMR is kills and escapes. Each killer has their number go up when you get a kill but the killer you got the kill with has it increase more. Survivors are all on one.

MMR is trash and not working as it should, thats all you need to know

When they brought in SBMM, keeping in mind I only played a few weeks prior to that, I found it took about 10 to 20 games on the killers I'm really weak and/or new on for my SBMM to calibrate. As well, keep in mind, when your MMR is more at an enjoyable level that pipping up at Iri requires a lot of iri emblems and that requires a lot of hooks so don't focus on kills, focus on getting a lot of hooks.

You can't fall in MMR to face all rookies 😂
1 You'll have 2 veggies and 2 loopers when you kill the 2 veggies you'll get 4 loopers your next match.
2 when you let the 4 loopers escape you'll get 2 veggies and 2 loopers. You'll never get 4 veggies

Rank reset should NOT impact your MMR score (i.e. it shouldn't have any impact on your matchmaking). They are two separate systems. Let's imagine you have an MMR score of 1700 (no one knows their actual score, but I'm just giving an example). After rank reset, your MMR is supposed to stay at 1700 even though your monthly grade went back to the start. If you totally lose 5 games in a row, maybe your score goes down somewhat -- to 1600 or something -- but it could still be fairly high. Maybe you'd need 5 or more additional total losses to get to a place that is better/more balanced for you. Maybe the time of day or region you're playing in are also a factor in the kinds of matches you're getting.
I don't know. Honestly, I've personally had a pretty good experience with MMR. I don't feel like I've ever had 5 crushing defeats in a row or 5 insanely dominant victories in a row. Maybe I'm just at a good MMR score for my playstyle? Also, I keep seeing claims that MMR is "turned off" at certain times/days, but all of the matchmaking is happening behind the scenes -- we just don't know what our MMR scores are or if the MMR system is being adjusted or anything else about it. . .

This was taken from another thread:
"Hey friend! Maybe I can help clear things up:
Grades are not used by the matchmaking system. They used to be called "Ranks" and were used for matchmaking, but that is no longer the case. Grades serve as a monthly tracker for how much time you spend playing, based on the Emblem system (Emblems turn into pips, and pips turn into Grades). You can't lose a grade through de-pipping anymore, either! At the Grade Reset on the 13th of each month, everyone goes back down to Ash IV and starts the climb again, and they get a Bloodpoint reward for their previous Grade. Get your Grade higher, and you get a bigger reward!
MMR is an entirely separate value used for Matchmaking. It's hidden, meaning you don't get to see it. It has absolutely no connection to Grades: Your MMR doesn't directly influence your Grade, and your Grade doesn't directly influence your MMR. MMR doesn't reset each month, but it is constantly adjusting based on match results to try to find you balanced games. This is why it's called SBMM (Skill Based Match Making), it's trying to measure your skill and put you in matches with similarly skilled teammates / opponents.
We've been considering removing the Grade icons from the post-game screen due to this confusion. I was hoping we could leave them there to allow everyone to have a little way to show off / have some bragging rights, but I've seen lots of people confusing Grades with MMR (understandably so!). What do you think? Should we hide the Grade icons on the match summary?
Thanks for taking the time to ask your question! I hope this explanation has helped clear up some of your confusion so you can get back to enjoying the game. <3"

MMR is just sometimes not working properly, for example when there are not many players active in your region right now. It also doesn't take into account which items/perks or maps people bring/ play on, maybe that's an issue too in your games. I think that after the latest changes (survivor buffs) the MMR ranking had to rearrange because many survivors including me got suddenly boosted by boons and new hit validation. Maybe it changes again now with the new perks.
I think MMR is very dynamic, i heard you only need like 17 games or so to go from 0 to highest possible value, so sometimes people get boosted by 3 lucky wins in a row and then they get smashed.

Oh no problem, it wasn't from me, a Dev actually popped in and wrote it. I found it very helpful!
