Kill Switch update: We have temporarily disabled The Legion due to an issue that allows for infinite power spam. The Legion will be re-enabled once this issue is fixed.

The Artist is extremely unfun to play against

She's been out for a few weeks now, and after playing against her a lot, I've come up with quite a few areas where I believe The Artist is problematic. I don't think I've ever despised going against a killer as much as The Artist, at least not since OG Legion. A breakdown:

The ability to essentially spam crows at objectives is downright annoying. Being constantly and repeatedly interrupted is annoying. This isn't a case of snapping out of madness a la Doctor where it only happens a few times per trial. The Artist can do this ad nauseum at will. This leads to problem number 2.

The repel action is a manual action the survivor has to perform for some reason. Not only that, but the action resets itself whenever the survivor takes an action like vaulting, or dropping a pallet. It does nothing else to inhibit actions or anything, so why does this require an input to repel the swarm? This comes up with every other killer it seems like these days, but you again have overlapping inputs on controller. That can't happen. Make the crow swarm a timed thing that automatically dissipates. There's zero reason for this to require an input.

She's not interactive in a chase. At all. Genuinely boring in this regard. Pre-throw a pallet, force her to set up crows, and run to the next tile. There's no mindgame whatsoever.

My issues with the Artist aren't about strength at all. Nurse is my favorite killer in the game to face. The Artist in my opinion is horrendously annoying in her ability to constantly interrupt actions, force survivors to perform a repel action, and boring/uninteractive in a chase.

I think the latest trend of killers being really oppressive in chase alongside the constant amount of range killers now is starting to bug people.

I'd still rather go against an Artist than a Nemesis though. His chase just feels out of character and just reminds me of PH way too much, but with some zombies to make him feel slightly unique.

On a side note, I'd like to see Trickster receive a new power. He could've had some cool concept with music (maybe an AOE effect), but all we got were knives... I still haven't accepted that decision by BHVR.

if they give trickster a new power i want the option to switch between both like they failed to do with the "old freddy" situation

yeah like the optiont to switch between current trickster and what new trickster power they would give. cause alot of people would be dissapointed in a trickster power change so the option to be able to play both would be nice

    Survivors nowadays:

If killer is easily loopable with an underwhelming power -> "fun and interactive"

If killer doesn't have to play ring around the pallet and still be effective -> "boring, unfun and problematic"

This sums it up perfectly. Artist isn't the standard chase killer and immediately she is labeled "problematic" because she is different.

Maybe I didn't play against strong artist yet but I find blight and nurse more oppressive.

I have fun chases against her, as for the input bindings that's another issue.

People don't like playing against any killer that makes them think about how they run if they can't run it like a 115 killer with no power.

But seriously, a string of ranged killers is what happens when you refuse to make any form of systemic changes to the game to make anything but chase killers relatively viable.

How am I misunderstanding it? Because I find it annoying? Because I don't think ranged control should be a thing?

"It does nothing else to inhibit actions or anything, so why does this require an input to repel the swarm?"

"Make the crow swarm a timed thing that automatically dissipates."

"There's zero reason for this to require an input."

Those 3 statements all heavily implied that you didn't get that Artist is a control based killer. Which is why my post is what it is. You'll notice that at no point did I say you shouldn't find it annoying or that you had to like control killers. You're allowed to like/dislike whatever you do. However, one should also realize that some people vastly prefer both using and facing control killers over say... insta down killers. Asking for a killer to get a Old Freddy level rework because you happen to find them unfun is... poor taste to say the least.

She seems fine so far. I don't think any changes should be made for at least a few months to let players figure out her best strats/counters

    To OP,

I think the Artists interactivity comes BEFORE you are in chase. She has a unique disadvantage of telling you her general location every time she uses her power. Furthermore, you can typically guess what her gameplan is going to be.

Gamestart: (Especially with corrupt intervention) She's going to wait about 10 seconds then throw crows at the most likely generators. So either wait till she crow-throws, or be ready to leave then gen and skulk slightly off center while crouching.

Midgame: She's going to throw at any generator that pops due to her scourge hook perk. She's going to throw at any generator that might light up from discordance or tinkerer. So when you get a gen to the 4th piston, walk off it for just a bit. Bet you'll dodge a bird. Pay attention to whether or not she birds at any generator with two people. If so, you know to split up or bait the power. She's going to throw at hooks if she's in chase to check them, and she's going to throw at unhooks. So wait to hear her use her bird to unhook, or don't dally under hook and take an angle that gets you away from it.

Endgame: She's going to throw at hooks she's trying to protect, or she's going to set birds to defend against the survivor rescue force. She's going to throw at gates. Again, literally all you have to do is stay crouched (Nea perk is good here) and wait out the bird.

If she does get you with a bird, assess your timing. If you don't hear a heartbeat, walk into a locker. It literally, per her power description, instantly gets rid of crows, so its not even a bug that will be removed. She needs info perks pretty bad, I've not yet seen an Artist using Iron Maiden other than myself to counter this easy way to remove birds.

In chase, you seem to not have a problem with escaping her, you just don't like the crows. That says a lot about her. She's a scouting M1 killer who can sometimes, on rare occasion, be lethal with her power.
