Finally some competition

Let's face it, we all love DBD. It's why we keep coming back, and it's why we flood the forums and social media with both praise and hate. Lately it's been more hate, and it's not hard to see why. We all want to see DBD thrive, but there's been no serious competition, and for too long BHVR has enjoyed the barren landscape. Why change anything if nothing threatens to contest the throne? But now just around the corner we have VHS, Evil Dead, and now The Texas Chainsaw Massacre from the makers of the Friday the 13th game.

Friday the 13th could have been something really special, and serious competition for DBD if only the developer hadn't been forced to abandon the project because of ongoing litigation with the property. Hopefully one, if not all of these properties will prove to be worthwhile competition, because DBD sorely needs it. Only through quality competition can we start to see changes for the better.

I'm really glad to see some more competition - as much as I love (and hate) this game sometimes, it does feel like someone needs to light a fire under the devs especially regarding balance and variety.

F13 was...eh. Just so, so janky.

What happened to the Predator game? Is that still being worked on, or has that been abandoned for the TCM game?

I'm more afraid that I will not be able to come back to DBD when Elden Ring comes out. Still shaking from that CGI.

  • I cant see VHS or even Propnight being serious competitors with DBD. They are way more kid friendly and give off a very different atmosphere altogether. As far as just having other asymmetrical games on the market, yeah. They kinda have competition there

Meh, it looks like another Dark Souls or Demon Souls thing...never really liked or wanted to play those kind of games

If TCM is anything like F13th was then it will definitely be competitive.

Here's the thing VHS and Propnight both play extremely differently from DbD. VHS isnt even the same concept as DbD.

Will they give some competition.....yes they will but not in the way as anyone thinks. As for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game......my hopes not that high because how buggy and broken F13 was.

It will take a game EXACTLY like DbD to bring it down.

I hope a new game comes out that's so good we can all sit back and watch this game bleed out nice and slow.

Maybe then the Devs will respect their players and actually give a ######### about their game.

Nah, I don't want that at all.

As frustrating as this damn game can be sometimes (and how much of a gigantic enema it needs to get rid of the huge amount of toxic players, hackers, griefers and the like) I really do enjoy it and just want it to be...better. Which, even compared to a year ago, it is.

I just want the glacial pace of much needed balance changes (boons, maps, weaker killers, weaker perks on both sides), refinements to the MMR system, a good anti-cheat etc. to be kicked up a notch.

The other thing that people forget is that it's entirely possible to enjoy multiple games simultaneously.

I'll bounce from DbD to Starcraft to whatever singleplayer game I'm enjoying in the course of a weekend.

Gun didn't make Predator Hunting Ground, Illfonic were the developers on that.

You explained it in a way that was eluding me.

Maybe it's the coloration, the artistic design... but VHS just gives off such a "baby's first asymmetric horror" game vibe that just makes it seem so unappealing for me. I'll keep an open mind, especially when it's done and actually out and DBD streamers try it then, but I seriously doubt this game is going to have much appeal for me.

I'm happy to see other multi-player horror games come out. I'm hoping VHS comes to console, Propnight looks fun and seems like there's plan there for console, will need to see more with TCM and Evil Dead but right now I'm hopeful. I'm really hoping they all do well and have a healthy player base.

The snowmen in this event is reminding me of what I've seen from Propnight. Wondered if DBD testing out new mechanics to get ready for that competition. 😂

I'm glad there are some competitors coming out. I don't think any will beat DBD, licenses alone will keep DBD going, but I do think if they are successful that they will push BHVR to start thinking more about what to do to keep players happy. If you truly want to see DBD have competition support these games. The more games in this genre the better.

Huh, for some reason, I thought it was the F13 people who made Predator: Hunting Grounds. Oh well.

I watched VHS gameplay and am not really interested, it looks more like an Overwatch style shooter, and if I wanted to play a game like that I’d just play Overwatch instead.

And Elden Ring has absolutely no similarity to DbD at all, I’m not even sure why it’s a comparison point?

Sadly a lot of the jank came from the fact that they weren't able to implement any new content that would bring about new changes, all they could do was iron out what was already there. But the thing that I appreciated more than anything, was the fact that survivors had more than one objective. They had more than one way to escape, but Jason was also a serious threat, and could easily destroy the survivors if they weren't careful. But I also love the fact that there was single-player content too if you didn't prefer to play with random people, which is something DBD sorely needs.

You don't need a game that literally copies DBD to a T to shake things up. Any asymmetrical game that could pull away the DBD audience will be looked upon as competition. The licenses will always bring people back to DBD, but if there's more fun gameplay to be had elsewhere, then that's where the gamers are going to be.

Well, that's the best part. You're free to not like the games, but I don't think anyone here would disagree From Software makes a certain Canadian game company look like newbies when it comes to game design.

Just @ this thread, the TCSM game is being published by Gun, but is not being developed by Gun.

The game styles are so different outside of being the 4 v 1 asymmetrical game. They’re entirely different. So are they really competition if they aren’t even that similar? I mean new game sweet but all this DBD killer talk and New DBD talk is so repetitive and cringe

I wouldn’t really call something competition if it doesn’t really have an equal chance of “winning”.

I am as excited as the next person for VHS (idk about Propnight, looks like a DBD for kids to me) However, that doesn’t mean that VHS or any other possible competitor will fulfill my every need when I want to play as Myers or play Chris, Jill, Nancy, the list goes on…

Basically what I am saying is don’t expect these games to come out and you see DBD start to fulfill your wishes. Because competition only comes when they have proven themselves as such. They gotta pay their dues first and establish themselves as a game first.

DbD is ahead of the pack but also just because I chose to play another game, doesn’t mean I stop playing DBD, just limiting my already ginormous amount of time I spend on DBD. So for me, both will be winners because they both offer something different.

Honestly VHS looks horrible imo, not my style at all but Propnight seems like a fun ass game to try.

I get ya though, some competition would serve the devs good, then again I don't see VHS competing on the same level of dbd.

    That's just me.

dbd is a serious horror game, propnight is more focused on the FUN factor which dbd is lacking severely. Like whas has dbd done that change up the gameplay? it's just the same since its release. The focus on perks was the worst thing they could 've done for the game. add more useless perks dat have so little imppact .. add new maps that u barely play because we have so many now. new killers the same, its just all recycled at this point.
