Another licensed chapter?
Why?
Don't get me wrong it sounds cool, but as usual I worry for what bad things will come rather than good. The last licensed chapter was kinda sucky if I am being honest.
BHVR is probably going to focus on aesthetic over actual gameplay again. We will be stuck with another killer with questionable design.
I would like to remind people what happened the last time we got a licensed chapter, and the last licensed chapter before that. Remember pinhead? We got a power that has a lot of potential but as usual has been left behind it seems. Remember Nemesis? We got a power that was incredibly underwhelming (don't act like it is the best thing ever). What about the licensed chapters before that?
I am just being skeptical as usual. Also, BHVR has yet to admit cheaters plague the game currently.

Why not?
Also they did like three in a row once, they do 'em back to back sometimes.

I'm excited, but confused why this wasn't just a legendary skin.
I was really hoping to see a genderqueer character too...
0 -
Because BHVR likes to focus on aesthetic rather than gameplay. The feeling of newness will go away very fast and we will be stuck with either a badly designed map, or a wonky killer such as pinhead. Or both.
2 -
I guess we should stop predicting if next chapter is gonna be licensed/original based on patterns or what devs said about how many licenses they do etc.
makes it more unpredictable so I am fine with that.
that said. I am still kinda waiting on them clarifying this whole NFT scandal (and the cheater epidemic) and am not willing to directly pay money on anything in DbD..
2 -
I just want a decent killer that won't be a ranged one, they really did spam those this year... Also, isn't it a bit soon to release a trailer for a chapter that releases in march? Especially even before the mid chapter patch notes.
0 -
Because people need to use real money.
Is this going to be another killer only chapter? Who would the survivor be? And isn't the whole premise of the ring is you need to watch the tape first? Like how exactly do you do that for a power? Can't exactly force survivors to watch TV to give the killer her power. 😂
1 -
I'm definitely intrigued. Really surprised they announced it so early though.
10 -
I guess since last chapter leaked they wanted to avoid any of that. Maybe it was even the wish of the license holder?
1 -
It really seems like a mistake if I'm being honest, but maybe you're right.
0 -
I'm not too excited.
It feels like all we've gotten this year is licensed killers, and most of them just aren't that fun.
Not to mention, I'm just not that a big fan of the Ring movies.
6 -
I'm both happy to see it but, at the same time, VERY surprised to see it announced so early on. The even more shocking thing is, this isn't even the anniversary chapter, that's Chapter 24 I believe so, what do they have planned for that and is that ANOTHER licensed chapter? If it is, as much as I love seeing licensed content get added into DBD even I have to admit, they've been pumping out so much more licencsed content as of late.

This is a cool license, so although I don't prefer licensed chapters I am interested to see how they handle this one. I'm cautiously optimistic for now. I do worry that if the 6th anniversary really is something big like F13, then that's a very long time without original content.

There won't be any map, they announced two maps this year and they came out already
4 -
We literally just got Artist.
3 -
Definitely wouldn't call the NFT thing a scandal. I'd wager not that many people care.
0 -
Same here. We got 1 1/2 original Chapters this year. And it can be expected that the Anniversary Chapter (which follows after the Chapter they just announced) will also be licensed. If that is the case, we would have:
Licensed (Resident Evil), Licensed/Original (Pinhead/Mikaela), Original, Licensed, Licensed.
Too much, really. I enjoy original chapters way more and I am honestly sick of licensed content at this point, especially since Pinhead.
2 -
I don’t care what you think about it.
many people are still upset about it and many people left the game because of it. They made 2 statements that are kinda contradicting eachother and never clarified this. I at least want to be sure they don’t make the same mistake twice so won’t buy licensed chapter rightaway.
1 -
You'd be better off looking into the license holders for Ringu- it was the license holders for Pinhead who made that decision, so unless BHVR were really proactive about making sure there won't be a repeat (which they should be, but you can't assume) they can't really tell us anything about it.
0 -
not feeling this license, just not into japanese horror, not cinema at least. was really hoping we'd see more non-movie licenses and ig we got the 2 big horror gaming ones, but i hope they're not just gonna ignore the rest.
1 -
BHVR could come out and tell us they won’t agree to this stuff again for future licenses (though i negotiations for the next 2-3 licenses were already over before Pinhead even got revealed.. let alone the whole NFT thing..)
1 -
my theory is that they release the teaser so soon is to get people excited because this game is going downhill fast now. esp. now with better options around to pick from. they try to hang on these licenses to attract new players.
0 -
I doubt many people left the game over it. lol please. No need to be so rude.
0 -
They technically can't- if the decision is made by the license holders, they're legally obligated to let that license holder use their models. At least for extant licenses, I don't know enough about license agreements to know if they can write an exception in for future licenses- if they can they certainly should, but I'm not gonna lean that hard into it because idk how feasible it is.
As you said, this license was probably already agreed to by the time the scandal hit, so that protection - if it's possible - may not be in place this time. It's not really a case of boycotting or distancing from one company - any franchise, company, even celebrity who isn't terminally online enough to know why NFTs are bad may end up agreeing to be involved with some.
0 -
And she along with Mikaela (who was really only like half a chapter) are the only original chapters we've gotten this year. The majority have been licensed.
I agree. Pinhead left a sour taste in my mouth, and now we're just getting more licensed content.
1 -
i just said i don’t care what you think about it. I didn’t insult you or made any ‚lol please‘ comments which surely are rude.
also there are quite a few known forum members that left because of it and others that got banned because they have spoken out against it (and broken forum rules doing so).
of course many casual player haven’t even heard of BHVRs involvement with NFTs, but that doesn’t make it any better and doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be clarification
1 -
Hopefully this one if good. Their licensed Killers tend to be boring and have powers too similar to other Killers.
2 -
I'm aware of what NFT means. All I'm saying is I think you're exaggerating. I doubt that many people left the game. If they were causing problems on the forums they should've been banned anyways. You were rude. The first person that disagrees with your assessment and you tell them you don't care what they have to say. I've seen so many posts with people saying they don't give a ######### about NFTs. Personally, I'm with you regarding the NFTs but I also recognize that the damage is done now and I sure as hell won't leave the game or get banned over it.

Trickster was also this year.
0 -
Damn. I forgot he even existed.
But still, he was at the start of the year. We got two licensed chapters, then one and a half original, and now another licensed chapter, (and the one after that will most likely also be licensed since it'll be DbD's anniversary.)
1 -
Could be a big licensed killer for the anniversary, it’ll be a while before we find out. 🤷♂️
1 -
how am I exaggerating when I just said i want it clarified before I pay for something again?? I wasn’t telling others to follow me or boycott DbD or anything. And I can very much state that I don’t care about your opinion on this when it’s only involving me. If anyone here was rude it was you with your first answer. You can disagree with my assessment. And I don’t have to care about your disagreement.
and just because the damage was already done doesn’t mean I have to sit by and watch it being done again and again. Just because many people don’t care doesn’t mean it’s not a problem or a scandal from my point of view.
also regarding the forum members, I never said all of them were banned? Most of them left the forums/the game without breaking any rules…
1 -
Well we can automatically rule out that this license will have a map. They said only 2 maps during the 2021-2022 year with one of those being RPD, then we just got Eyrie of Crows. So the next time we'll get a new map at earliest is the anniversary.
1 -
If it's only involving you then why the hell are you posting it on the forums? Once it's posted I have the right to say my opinion whether you want to hear it or not. You we're rude about it. Period. I don't tell people that I don't care about their opinion on here. I never have. Also, you said many people quit the game over NFTs and I said I doubt that. I think you're exaggerating. When people are mad they tend to exaggerate. You can't do anything about the NFTs anyways. Personally, I'm sick of hearing people complain about it but others have a right to disagree with me. I don't have the right to be rude to them. Once you post your opinion on the Internet it no longer only involves you.
0 -
They could still distance themselves from the involvement though.
and they kinda did with a statement after info about Hellraiser NFTs got out but then in a following statement they made a turnaround and revealed they deliberately worked with the license holder on this. and this statement was the worst part of it. If it was just the license holder using the models it would still be bad but they are to blame. But BHVR was directly involved in this and I just want clarification that this kind of deal won’t be made again.
1 -
well.. why are you allowed to comment on my personal statement but it’s somehow rude when I merely say I don’t care about your opinion? Again, I never insulted you nor did I want to be rude. But your opinion will not change my take on this and I stated so. I posted it fully knowing many people disagree or don’t care about it. And may state so. And that’s okay for me.
‚many‘ is of course subjective in this case. But the absence of some active forum members is notable. And it doesn’t even matter how many left or didn’t. It’s still a scandal for me.
and I ask you to reread all my comments and your comments towards me with a calm voice. You will notice that you are using terms like ‚why the hell‘ and ‚lol please‘ while I am not/only in direct response.
1 -
Fair enough.
0 -
Ehh... not really. They made a statement saying that the license holders were allowed to do whatever they wanted with the models, and that they had to help. Then, when it was officially released, they said that they helped port the models over. They were actually pretty consistent about it- there was no turnaround, they never said or even implied that they had zero involvement. It's extremely telling that their response boiled down to "look they're technically allowed to and we can't stop them" initially, and that their involvement beyond that was a single tweet and not even a news bulletin in-game.
I'm not one to cheerlead for a corporation, trust me, but BHVR deserve criticism for what they actually did wrong, which we don't actually know the extent of- there's a very real chance this was dropped on them completely out of the blue, and there's not much we can realistically criticise them for in that case. In future, we should be looking to them to do everything in their power to distance from NFTs, but the ultimate people we should be blaming are the license holders.
0 -
That’s actually why I am asking for clarification on the matter.
for me the two statements are kinda contradicting. But I see that it is not clear.

I hate to sound like a broken record on this subject but while it is nice to see more characters coming It would be so much better if the devs would just release an update to balance certain perks , get the cheater problem fixed , fixing mmr or just scrap it and use a ranking system to have more balanced matches and adding some slice of life stuff to make the shlog of grinding and other issues be addressed rather than making more dlc packs that muddy the already murky waters more
1 -
Not gonna lie, I'm getting really tired of licensed chapters. I don't even feel excited for this.
2 -
But crow lady from Chile, where there are no crows apparently, gets you excited? The Artist, to me, wasn't exciting ever. At any point. Licensed survivors and killers bring in more revenue and more players.
0 -
Yeah, but licensed chapters also means limited content (Cosmetics, for example).
And yeah, I was excited when the Artist's chapter came out because she has an interesting power and concept, and her perks were good/ok. Didn't really care about Jonah or his perks, though. Plus we got a map out of it, which was desperately needed.
0 -
I don't think anyone cared about Jonah. I don't think anyone does now. Which is sad because he's not bad. The only licensed killers that have limited cosmetics are Freddy and Myers. That's because they always wore the same thing. They could do a New Nightmare costume for Freddy if they could get the license. Leatherface had alot of different costumes. So does Jason if we ever get him. Pinhead has the Cenobite skins.
1 -
All of the licensed killers only have 1-2 full outfits (Excluding Demo, Ghostface, and Pyramid Head. PH's are all sets which is a whole separate issue)
As for the licensed survivors, not much cosmetic options with them, either. Ash, Laurie and Quentin only have 2-3 full outfits (counting their prestiged outfits). The rest of the licensed survivors only have their default, ugly sweaters, and outfit sets. The only licensed survivors that have good customize options are Nancy and Steve, but since Stranger Things isn't in the game anymore they don't really count.
My biggest issue when it comes to licensed characters is cosmetics because 9/10 they're going to be sets.

If I'm not mistaken this doesn't come out till next year tho lol

The DbD year starts and ends in June, not January, as that is when the anniversary is.
For example, Year 4 began with the Silent Hill chapter in June 2020, and ended right before the Resident Evil chapter in June 2021.
So Chapter 23, Ringu in March 2022, will be the final chapter of Year 5, as the upcoming 6th anniversary chapter in June 2022 will be the first chapter of Year 6.
Meaning both maps for Year 5 have indeed already released, being Raccoon Police Department and Eyrie of Crows.
2 -
Oh yeah I gotchu fam but considering how trolly/teasy the devs can be, who's to say they meant the dbd year rather than the actual year. Plus they could be lying to hide upcoming content. But I'm not going to lie I wasn't thinking about the dbd year when I posted that comment
