Speculation on Sadako’s (Samara in the US version) abilities? (Ringu)
DbD just announce the next DLC in March is Ringu, so presumably the killer is evil ghost girl Sadako (Samara in the US version) (sweet!) Definitely a killer with a great potential look to her, and a fun story.
What I’m wondering about though is what her actual abilities in game will be? Total speculation right now obviously, but curious what you guys think she’ll actually be able to do?
Couple of possibilities I can think of that fit the theme
- Samara’s schtick is cursing people who watch her video so they eventually die. It could be interesting to have a curse mechanism where Samara can mark survivors and after a while something bad happens to them.
- Or along those lines of cursing people who watch her, another fun way to do it would be if a survivor looks at Samara for too long something bad happens, like they get Hindered or Exposed. (I had an idea for a Medusa killer that could do this, but I could see it working for Samara too.) Basically she’d be a killer that survivors are actually afraid to look at during a chase or when doing gens, etc.
- They also could have televisions or “wells”, etc, scattered around the map that she could teleport between.
- And maybe a hallucination type ability ala Doctor could fit, since cursed victims tend to have weird visions.
She doesn’t strike me as being mechanically like Spirit or Nurse so it’ll be interesting to see how they handle her in game!
P.S. Other Correctly pointed out below the character name is different between the Japanese and US versions.

Her name probably won't be Samara. I'm sure she will get teabagged, FL induced seizures, and nerfs.

technically i think she's called sadako, we're getting the original japanese license rather than the american version. not sure how much of a difference it makes but wanted to point it out

Yeah, you’re right, Sadako is the Japanese character’s name.

Rough idea:
- Always in the Spirit World, invisible to Survivors.
- Has no TR, has Increased movespeed while in the Spirit World.
- Has a Lullaby audible to Survivors that follows her while in the Spirit World. (This Lullaby is deactivated when she exits the Spirit world)
- She has Killer Instinct on Survivors that are within her Lullaby while in the Spirit world.
- Power allows her to come out of the Spirit World through Televisions that are placed around the map.
- She can only be outside of the Spirit World for a limited duration.
- Her Obsession is always Exposed while she is out of the Spirit World. (Survivors can interact with Televisions to become the Obsession).
- She does not have a carry animation, instead a "screen-tear" occurs with some static (akin to the Doctor), and the Survivor is immediately relocated to the nearest available Hook.

I cannot even conceive of how she'll work. She's gonna be the least physically intimidating killer for sure, considering that she's a Japanese teenager.

Trickster’s not exactly intimidating looking, Sadaka is at least really creepy.

I'm not saying she's not disturbing/creepy, I'm just saying she's not physically intimidating. Like I can't envision her breaking stuff, hitting people and carrying survivors.

Beats me, i never actually thought Ring would make it into the game. Like, what would be the killer's weapon?

her wet hair?

Oh no...split ends 😱

maybe she smacks you with the tape

That’s actually a good question.
she will be pretty small and only attacking with her hands (like Nemesis with his fist) will make her lunge look pretty weird. Freddy may get competition on that front.

new-old freddy? 👀

IMO she probably won't have one. Probably more like a Doctor Madness state change where there's a screen effect, maybe a disjointed animation from Sadako, and the Survivor gets injured, but nothing that would explicitly show any kind of strength. The attack being left up to our imagination. (This is including the Killer viewpoint).
She might Reach out and touch, but there is no follow-through. Once she touches the Survivor it's instantly back to the normal animation state. (And depending on how her Power works, might reset her to a different state).

My only guess is that she'll have a teleporting ability of some sort (Maybe something to do with portals?) and maybe have something to do with a phone.

There's a well in the teaser. I'm guessing she'll be a teleporting killer.

Sadako Yamamura actually lived in the well for thirty years. She's roughly in her mid to late forties.
I was quoting someone else... but it somehow added you instead :/
