Why does BHVR never try something really crazy in events?
Events are a common thing for devs to try out new mechanics they would like to implement or think to bring it in the game somehow. Many games do that and BHVR is no difference there, however.
Why does BHVR keep staying with very "minor" events like collect something ingame and escape, or prevent the survivors of having it by hitting them. Its basicly always the same over and over. Why not trying out something really crazy like you collect something as Killer and become the entity for a short duration, or survivors can call upon the enitity with a specific item that aids them in the chase.
Since this would be an event there would be no big reason to not try it out.

Because it might leave the game unplayable to people who want to play regular dbd

People complain about everything, no matter how minor a change it is. Imagine doing something crazy like that, they'd need to close the forums to prevent chaos lol

We're lucky we get that at all.
- Community complained endlessly about it during 2018's Hallowed Blight and 2019's Moonrise events, for 'disrupting normal gameplay'.
- Devs see that people didn't like that type of event, so they stopped doing it in favour of what we normally get (Bloodpoint offerings, decorations and special items, none of which change gameplay that much).
- Community complains that all the newer events are boring and don't do anything.
- Devs finally makes another event with gameplay changing elements (the snowmen), and take a guess what the community does (just look at the forums and Reddit these past few weeks).
We can't even have something as minor as that without the community bitching about it. There's no way that we could handle something as drastic as what you're envisioning, unfortunately.

You mean just like the snowmans?

other companies can also make that work so ye

trying to please the dbd community is like trying to convince rich people to pay taxes

I honestly think it's just a minority of players, who take this game very seriously, that complain and that the majority appreciate the shake ups that events could have. I really hope the devs start branching the game out a little and try to shake it up a little more, but with more effort in making things fair for both sides.

If this event is anything to go by, I certainly won't complain whenever the devs decide to do a more muted event.

Snowmen in DBD is a big step-up from past events. I think BHVR has now reached a good point at least with this event because dare I say, it doesn't distract too much from the core gameplay whilst also introducing a new fun element to the game. If there was anything more drastic, you risk players either throwing games or becoming way too powerful because of the event. That would get old really quickly.

Thats not how it feels for killers though survivors started using them strategically almost instantly and the only interaction from the killer is something else to hit.

Because DBD doesn't have different queues, and while many people would love something wacky and seriously game-changing, many others wouldn't like it as they still want to play "normal" DBD. So BHVR tries to find some sort of solution in the middle, something hopefully sorta interesting but not something that interferes too hard with the core gameplay loop.

Because they did something extremely tame and muted in the snowmen, and people exploded.
Also, they probably don't want to change the one game mode too dramatically, and adding a second one would be a lot of work for a seasonal event that risks splitting the playerbase and making queue times take way too long.

Ummm.... 2v8 DBD is probably the most fun you could ever have in a match low key.
For anyone who's ever tried it when it was bugged, its pretty fun stuff. Buggy because of how they handle killer assets, but hella fun.

Snowmen we're substantial enough additions to me. A little OP but it's not like it's a simple idea.

Because they can barely implement anything without multiple things at once. I think EGC is pretty much the only thing they crazy added over the years.

Funnily enough all those criticism would be void if they just added a limited time game mode to enjoy those said event things so people can pick which mode they wanted and have zero right to complain. They didn't so I think the complaints do have validity in them, Also I never liked the whole "Lmfao it's just 14 days go play something else" argument. It's dumb. I want to have fun too, Why is survivor the only side that can interact anything winter related? Why don't I have winter related add ons? It's a bad event where only one side gets to have fun.

either do nothing or be even-handed.
"Your only involvement in this event is to hit the survivors like every other time you hit survivors" is not an event.

Separate game modes is a good idea BECAUSE this is a time limited event. It's going back to normal afterwards.
Oh hell yeah cosmetics makes the event worth it :P.
Oh you mean the refined serum barely enough used and can't even used after the event so you just wasted BP on garbage but survivor can use theirs to make Syringe medkits stronger? Oh hell yeahs.

We're complaining about the same thing but we have different agreement on specifics.

Nobody ever once did anything interesting with them for me. They've just been used to try and get an extra hit state. That's not particularly fun, as it's the same as any other time I've played the game. I don't feel like I've actually taken part in much of an event when the sum totality of my involvement in the event side of things was identical to if there had been no event on. :/

But
I couldn't take any time to have fun with survivors and the snowmen, because none of them wanted to. That is my complaint! Even if I wanted to get into the spirit of things and have fun with the event, nope. Not your choice. Got to hope the other people choose to so you can reciprocate, no making the first move.
