You're probably the reason you don't find dbd fun anymore.
I have played the game for 4 years now. And even when I think "aghh this game sucks!" I still come back to it. I think a lot of veteran players have experienced this in a way. Usually the solution is to take a break. And it works after so long. I have come back from my break and I realized something. The reason why I didn't enjoy DBD anymore was because I took it too seriously. I have played a couple of matches today, losing the majority of them, but I didn't care. I actually had fun. I had fun using stupid builds and even found a surprising handful of times I could actually use my bad perks.
I've always hated confining myself to the meta, but I also wanted to win. And trying to actually win without meta perks was really hard. So I found myself frustrated with many things in the game. I wanted variety in my matches but it felt like I was handicapping myself to do so. The meta makes the game easier but it also turns it into a very rinse and repeat playstyle. When there's like 5 pages of perks on each side and everyone only uses about 16 interchangeably of course it's boring. There's no variety.
And that's where you need to help yourself. Step outside of your comfort zone and just enjoy yourself. Don't let the BM get to your head. Don't worry about making mistakes. Just let go and enjoy the game. With how buggy and imbalanced this game is, you have to embrace it. Embrace how chaotic the game is and just laugh at it.
If we could do this as a community I'm sure it would be better for everyone.

Hard agree.
Not to say balance issues can't be talked about or can't be frustrating, but people get far, far, far too worked up over them.

Eh.
On one hand, yes - some of this is contributory. If you sweat for the 4k or to escape every round, don't be surprised when you start playing against crazy SWFs or 15 Blights in a row.
On the other hand, people don't really have control over their own neurochemistry. When something feels unfair (say, their favorite killer being nerfed almost out of viability while an extremely powerful survivor perk gets buffed) or frustrating (other players being nasty, and this nastiness being outright encouraged by developers) - I don't think that it's their fault that they aren't having fun anymore.
You can't force yourself to have fun.

I'm 50/50 on this. On one hand I agree, but on the other hand, you shouldn't be punished for playing to win. You shouldn't have to throw every game to have fun

I have a great time playing Dead by Daylight.

I love when some people call other people bots whenever they're complaining about solo queue.
They're obviously leagues above everyone else to be dripping with such scorn and entitlement.
Anytime I see that from now on, I'm going to ask if they're wiing to upload a few matches (back to back - no edits) or queue with me.
I'd really like to see such players in action so I can really 'up' my game.

People treat this game less like a pastime and more like a job.
Let's try to have dumb fun with this dumb unbalanced buggy game.

Every game gets boring after a while. At least for me.
I am not a person who can play the same game for years without breaks.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that DBD is a flawed game.

The problem is that they are trying to make the game competitive but there really isn't a real reason for it to be competitive....you dont get rewarded. My favorite thing they ever added were the challanges because I feel like I am rewarded for trying hard to do them. The rest of the time though? Pointless....I dont mind the game being competitive but they have to give us a good reason to want to try hard ya know?

Playing since Oct 2016 and I have taken 3 breaks, and one was for 9 months. Each time I came back the game was improved.
The best thing I have done is to rarely run gen slowdown perks. Faster matches and it opens up so many other possibilities to expose survivors to perks they don't see every match. It also challenges me to make something happen in the limited time I have. The result is a lot of "brutal killer" results but I always make great BP. When I do 4k without gen slowdown it makes me smile.
Going into matches without the expectation of victory has reduced my stress. Go with the flow and DBD is actually fun most of the time.

This.
Nail on the head.

No actually the reason I don't find dbd fun anymore I because they nerfed my main into the dirt and he will probably stay there for years sadly 🤠😓

I tend to have fun on DBD with this mindset since I believe this is more of a party game than a competitive one so I play it as such. This allows me to use different builds without worrying about my performance necessarily. I don't expect to get sacrifices so I don't aim for it either. The goals I set for myself in the match are more like "How many people can I get with my power" in order to learn a killer or "how many people can I mind game with this trick" and things like that. I just find ways to have fun myself in the match and laugh at any of the bugs that show up along the way.

I mean some people do take it too seriously, but wanting better balance is not taking it too seriously, and that is why a lot of people don't have fun with the game anymore. The game is just not fun on killer when the survivors know what they are doing because the game isn't balanced around them knowing what to do. Even if you don't want to sweat for a 4k, even getting 2 kills can be rough. Then if you enjoy solo survivor it is also not fun because killers camp and tunnel a lot due to said balance issues, and because other survivor players DC and just make the solo survivor experience terrible.

I mean... alot of people have different meaning of fun for dbd,
For me it's tryna get 12 hooks, but i find it extremely unfun if they just wanna rush the gens as fast as they can...
not my cup persay.. just flat out boring,

Focusing specifically on the idea which is apparent in DBD that the meta is needed to win, I'm pretty certain that isn't the case. Obviously, I'm not saying you've said that, but your comment about the meta reminded me, and just wanted to add something to this:
It is extremely possible, and has happened many times, whereby a player on either side has won against strong opponents whilst not using the meta. I've done it loads of times, and I am absolutely positive hundreds and thousands have done just the same.
Granted, the meta is given that name because they are stronger perks, but if someone is skillful, experienced and creative enough, then most perks can be utilised into a winning possibility. But I think as people play more and become stuck in the rut, what seems to happen (as in any role in life) is that they become blind to anything other than the usual. That's why new blood breathes new life, or at least finding that feeling again.

Me too

If people embraced how poorly this game is balanced/designed, then you lose any say when it comes to holding the devs accountable for said balance. .

Agree. My next break from DBD will come when Elden Ring launches but I'll be back for more. Anyway, the less seriously I focus on the game the more I enjoy it.

Well, that works unless you were Deathslinger main... RIP us
I used to have fun before, but validation just can easily ruin the game.
Undeserved nerfs, CoH, SBMM just didn't help neither.

Oh, stop getting frustrated when people are going out of their way to make everything as frustrating for you as possible? Why didn't anyone tell me this before?!?!? :D
Like...I get what you're saying and I'd love to be able to just turn off being frustrated but I can't. Eventually, I expect it'll break me and make me dump the game for good.
1 -
Oh the grind does that though or atleast at first it can help make it feel like a job.

I'd say if people are disincentivized to try and win because the game makes that a frustrating endeavor, that sounds more like an issue with the game than the player.

Maybe you're right, but for people like myself who never took the game competitively seriously, MMR has deeply damaged the ability to enjoy matches. I've all but quit playing Killer, because 100% of matches that aren't against survs who Boop™️ me as Pig, I get matched with people who are grossly better than me. It's impossible to try to learn new killers, because I'm getting survs that may be ranked at my Main skill level. Just last night I decided to not entertain a 4SWF click team and went to the basement to throw the game so I could avoid a DC penalty. They went out of their way to flashbang me one after the other. Giving up isn't even good enough for the el toxicos.
As solo q survivor, I end up with juiced up killers and teammates who don't do gens.
There's just no rhyme or reason to this matchmaking and playing has just become a chore.

I wouldn't mind there being a hard meta so much, if not for the fact that they are so set on not touching it. It's been like 2 years at this point of identical perks being meta, most of them being in every match since their creation. The devs need to be less scared of nerfing overused perks.

I kinda agree and disagree
At some point you should stop taking this game too seriously, I have some friends who should really take this advice on that it true...
however
in my case you literally cannot have fun if you run as Nemesis 2 min behind a survivor and see all gens around you pop, even if you try to stop chasing the guy and go for the next one just to see that he does the same, you can barely reach them cuz they play very well, their pathing is nearly perfect leading you always at any situation and position to a strong tile or loop where it takes a while till you catch up finally.
what I am trying to say is if you get matched with very good survivors there is no way trying to "avoid" the annoying parts of the game. Even if I try to play with fun perks, I cant come even to the point to use them cuz my games last under 8min and the survivors dont give me a chance to use them.

And here I am using Inner Strength and helping Killers with their Pentimento stacks.
My builds are a joke 99% of the time compared to the players I meet, and the few times I've attempted to use DH I would dash into walls, never again. It's fine if players are only here to win, but I do agree that it can lead to having a super bad time and eventually having no fun when it doesn't work. I've reached the point where I only play to have fun, if I am not enjoying it I finish the match I am in and take a break. It probably also get extra frustrating when you're using meta perks, tryharding as much as possible and still lose.
However some perks are just so bad that you actively set yourself up to lose most of the time, a big rework for useless perks on both sides would maybe go a long way. There is always going to be players who only follow the meta, but I'd rather have 100+ fun and kinda good perks, instead of 16 super good and the rest is just barely usable.

Congratulations on watching otz video, you could have just posted the link for us instead of making a post like this.

Easy way to tell break is needed when you dont have fun regardless if you lose or win

You have to learn how to control your emotions. It's nothing more than a video game. It does take time to learn patience but it also pays off. Everytime you get mad just take a step back and think "why am I mad?" and determine if it's really worth your anger. This expands beyond dbd and it will honestly help you a bunch.

Most people play games to win, and not just to play them.
1 -
Yeah especially in multiplayer PVP games, and it doesn't mean you're taking it too seriously either.
It's not the player's fault if the gameplay or balance is frustrating.
